The night descending upon the steep, pine-covered hills surrounding the Ancient City of Pedasa glowed with an unusual crimson. Bodrum's millennial Leleg ruins had now turned into the epicenter of a dark ritual. The CORE team was lined up like ghosts among thick-trunked pine trees on a rocky ridge overlooking the ruins from above. The wind whipped the sickly, throat-burning stench of dark magic and sweat rising from below into their faces. Kuzey lay face down on the edge of the cliff, his ebony wand stabilized on the stones like a sniper rifle. With a short focusing charm, Oculus Extensa, whispered to the tip of his wand, he was scanning every inch of the valley below. He began to relay what he saw through the golden magical lens reflecting in his eye to the team in a cold tone of voice. "The situation is much worse than we expected," Kuzey said. "There are at least two hundred mortals down there. Their eyes are glazed over, sparks overflowing from their wands. They've formed a circle toward the center of the temple." Leaning against a tree trunk, Darius clenched his jaw as he watched below from the darkness. "It's not just mortals. Is Nazir's main crew there?" Kuzey shifted his wand slightly to the right. "I see them. Nazir is in the center. He has the Port Parchment in his hand; he's standing on that old altar stone where the Second Gateway is. Right to his right... Tariq. He's drawn his dual wands from their sheaths, waiting on alert." Meltem smiled dangerously as she tightened her leather gloves in the dark. "I've got Tariq. I'm very curious how he swings those two wands so fast." "Don't rush," warned Kuzey, directing his wand toward the left side this time. "Zehra is there, too. She has crystal vials filled with those black, toxic potions in her hands. She's wandering among the mortals, forcing that filth down the throats of those who fall and getting them back on their feet. And... God, what is that?" A massive rumble broke out from the valley below. The enormous pine trees at the entrance of the forest were uprooted and split in two. From between the trees emerged Kaya, holding a wand as thick as an oak log. With his every step, the historical stones of Pedasa trembled, and the soil around him seemingly breathed in and out. Alaz's irritable voice came through the earpieces from inside the yacht: "Sensors have gone crazy! Whoever that hulking guy is, he's pumping pure magic into the ancient fault lines beneath the soil. He's going to use nature itself as a battering ram to break the seal of the Second Port!" "Kaya," said Darius, fixing his eyes on the gigantically built man. "A master of earth magic. If he breaks that seal, the magic fluctuation in Pedasa will shake the entire Bodrum peninsula. We are taking tactical positions, now." Darius moved to the center of his team and quickly drew a sketch of Pedasa on the dirt with the tip of his wand.

"This is not a pitched battle, it's a surgical intervention," said Darius, his voice sharp and authoritative. "Kuzey, this ridge you are on right now is yours. You'll provide us with cover fire from above. Your first target is Zehra. Shatter those crystal vials among the mortals; let them drown in their own poison. The moment you take her out, Tariq and Kaya's protective shields will weaken too." Kuzey merely nodded, already settling his long wand perfectly at shoulder level and beginning to steady his breathing. Darius turned his gaze to Lidya, who was virtually melting into the shadows and disappearing. "Lidya, you infiltrate from the right flank. Those two hundred mortals are standing on their feet out of fear and Zehra's potion, not out of their faith in Nazir. Enter their minds. Plant seeds of paranoia and illusion there. Pull monsters out of the shadows, make them turn on each other. You're going to split the center of the army for us." "The shadows are mine," Lidya whispered, and a second later, leaving only a black smoke where she stood, she merged into the darkness. Darius finally turned to Meltem. Both were aware of just how deadly this moment was. "The two of us are going down through the center, straight for the heart. The moment Lidya splits the army, we will sprint through that opened corridor. Your target is Tariq. Keep him away from me, use all your agility if necessary, but disrupt his dual-wand rhythm." Meltem tilted her head slightly. "I'll do more than just disrupt it. What about you?" "I'll take Kaya and Nazir," Darius said, pulling his wand from inside his robes and watching the dull purple energy at its tip awaken. "Before Kaya breaks that seal, I need to bring the stones of Pedasa crashing down on his head." Efsun's crackling, elderly voice was heard through the earpiece: "You are running out of time, kids. The runes on the altar stone have begun to glow. The seal is cracking!" "We're starting," Darius said. Kuzey took a deep breath on the edge of the cliff and stabilized the tip of his wand on that glowing crystal vial in Zehra's hand. From his lips spilled that first, silent, and deadly word that would unleash the storm in the valley: "Bombarda." The bright yellow beam of light shooting from Kuzey's wand tore through the night like lightning and struck the valley floor, hitting exactly the crystal vial in Zehra's hand. A deafening sound of shattering glass echoed in Pedasa. That boiling, sickly dark potion inside the vial detonated like a massive cloud of acid. While the mortals around clutched their eyes screaming, Zehra was caught in the toxic gas of her own making and hurled backward blindly. The explosion was that first flare signaling the opening of hell's gates.

With Zehra's fall, the wanded mortals in the valley panicked. Just at that moment, Lidya's whisper was heard from among the historical columns on the right flank: "Tenebris Illusio: Phantasma!" Shadows came alive. The mortals' own shadows detached from the ground and turned into gigantic, red-eyed demons manifesting their greatest fears in their minds. The army began to frantically hurl fireballs and distorted shockwaves amongst themselves against the imaginary enemies. Red and orange lights exploded on Pedasa's historic walls, scattering deadly stone shrapnel around. Lidya had cleaved the army in two, exactly as Darius had wanted. "Now!" roared Darius. Darius and Meltem descended into the valley through that opened corridor of chaos like lightning bolts. Meltem took her steps as lightly as if she were gliding on air, dodging the blindly thrown red fireballs coming at her with flawless somersaults. Her target was clear; Tariq, waiting in front of the altar in the center of the temple, with a wand in each hand. Tariq narrowed his eyes when he saw Meltem's speed. He thrust his right wand forward and pulled his left wand toward his chest in a defensive position. "Diffindo!" Tariq shouted with his right wand. Invisible wind swords flew towards Meltem, whistling through the air. Meltem, stepping on a ruined column, leapt into the air, and as the wind swords sliced the dirt beneath her, she hurled the two shock discs in her hands at Tariq. Tariq wasn't surprised. He quickly raised his left wand: "Protego!" A blue, translucent shield absorbed the discs. However, in that millisecond gap when Tariq lowered the shield, Meltem descended from the air like lightning, locking her right leg over Tariq's shoulder. The two had engaged in a deadly rhythm of close combat. Spells arced through the air; red, blue, and yellow beams of light clashed with one another. Meanwhile, Darius was advancing toward that gigantic, earth-shattering man, Kaya, right behind the altar. Kaya had plunged his log-like wand into the dirt, a muffled murmur spilling from his lips. The earth rippled, and the ancient fault lines protecting the invisible seal of the Second Port cracked and split open. Darius did not hesitate. He raised his wand in the air and aimed it squarely at Kaya's face. "Sectumsempra!" Invisible sword strikes ripping through the air flew toward Kaya's chest. Snatching his wand from the earth abruptly, Kaya hoisted a massive boulder into the air and used it as a shield. The invisible strikes split the boulder into three, but Kaya remained unharmed.

The burly man grinned, swinging his wand toward Darius like a sword this time. "Petra Malleus!" The ground beneath Darius's feet exploded with a massive roar. A two-ton mass of earth torn from its base launched toward Darius like a colossal sledgehammer. "Expulso Maxima!" roared Darius, thrusting his wand forward rapidly. The blinding blue shockwave gushing from the tip of his wand struck the airborne mass of earth. The collision was so violent that a blue and brown dust cloud covered the sky, and the explosion's shockwave even shook the surrounding ruins. Out of the dust cloud, Kaya burst forward, roaring like a wild beast. The distance to his target had closed; he raised his wand to bring it down straight onto Darius's chest. But Darius was waiting for that moment. He shifted his stance, his eyes taking on a dull purple hue, and reached into his own dark arsenal. "Ignis Vaporis!" A green, bubbling fog cloud exploded from the tip of Darius's wand. This scalding fog, which was seawater instantly boiled by magic and enriched with sulfur, struck Kaya in the face. As the giant man held his face, roaring in pain, Darius brought his wand down to his kneecap to deliver his finishing move. "Confringo!" The orange energy ball detonating on Kaya's leg felled the man to the ground like a toppling plane tree. The ground shook, and the man's wand flew from his hand. Darius straightened up, panting. Amidst the chaos of the skirmish, his eyes drifted to the altar. Standing there with the Port Parchment in his hand, Abu Nazir was looking at him. There was no surprise or fear on Nazir's face. He was merely scrutinizing Darius as if examining an interesting insect. "You make a lot of noise, Widdershins," Nazir said. His voice reached Darius's mind clearly, despite all the explosions and screams around them. Darius raised his wand toward Nazir. "The noise is over. Drop the parchment." Nazir smiled. "Is that so?" Nazir lifted his hand slightly, and a pure, black fireball shot from within his robes. This was no ordinary fire. It was a living, untamable dark magic. "This is Fiendfyre magic," Darius whispered in horror. The cursed fire turned into a massive, serpentine fire dragon in the air and began melting the columns of Pedasa, swallowing everything in its path (whether mortal or ruin). Using the inferno this fire created, Nazir started walking into the darkness. The parchment was still with him.
