The courtyard of the Mausoleum had fallen into a deadly silence around the crater created by the massive pillar of energy Kuzey brought down from the sky. All that remained of the Fifth Port stone was a thin, gray cloud of dust. In the middle of the dust cloud stood Nazir, slumped on his knees. The shoulders of the supposedly invincible man were trembling. He dipped his fingers into the ashes of the Port. Not a trace of his arrogance, of that calm and calculating sociopathy, remained on his face. When he slowly raised his head, the bottomless darkness in his eyes had been replaced by a rotten, sickly, and glowing green. “What is mine...” whispered Nazir. His voice was cracked, echoing as if it came from two worlds at the same time. “You... insects... have taken what is mine from me!” Nazir tossed his wand aside. He plunged both of his hands into the thousands-of-years-old soil of the Mausoleum, saturated with blood and magic. The volcanic, fiery power on Kara Ada had now been replaced by a pure, ice-cold energy of death. Necromancy. “Exsuscito Antiquis!” roared Nazir, raising his head to the sky. The veins in his neck swelled with a green light. The earth did not shake; the earth practically groaned in pain. The ruins of the Mausoleum, the marble blocks, and the earthen floor began to crack and split open with great violence. The dry, scraping sounds of bones coming from beneath the soil tore through the silence of the night. This tomb, one of the Seven Wonders of the World, was awakening from its millennial sleep. From the splits in the earth, skeleton warriors sprang out, wearing rusted bronze Carian armor, with Nazir’s sickly green magic glowing in their eye sockets. Dozens, hundreds... The massive necropolis beneath the Mausoleum was being spewed to the surface by Nazir’s pure rage. Okan, lying on the ground from the beating he had just taken from Meltem, was horrified as a skeleton bursting through the soil right beside him swung its rusted sword. He reflexively raised his wand: “Reducto!” The curse shattered the skeleton’s ribcage to pieces. But as soon as the bones fell to the ground, they interlocked again with a green energy and stood back up. “They’re not breaking apart!” shouted Okan in a panic. “Their smell...” groaned Sina, collapsing to the ground while covering his blind eyes with his hands. “Thousands of years of decay... There’s no oxygen, it just smells of death! I can’t breathe!” Sina’s sensory magic, which he relied on so much, had overloaded his mind with the simultaneous awakening of thousands of the dead. Meltem dodged through three skeleton guards lunging at her with a flawless somersault. She threw two of her electrically charged shock discs at the necks of the skeletons. The discs hit their marks perfectly, scattering blue lightning, but the skeletons didn’t even flinch. “Damn it!” shouted Meltem, recalling the discs and drawing her pure titanium combat knives. “Darius! They don’t have nervous systems! The discs only tickle them!” She tried to physically topple them by cutting the ligaments at the skeletons’ joints with her knives, but for every one that fell, two more took its place. Lidya grabbed Vera, whose mind she had been torturing with illusions, by the collar and hoisted her roughly to her feet. Her black shadows were trying to form a physical shield against the rain of bones coming at them, but shadows did not work on the dead. “If you want to live, work that arrogant wand of yours, Ministry rat!” hissed Lidya. Vera, as soon as she snapped out of her shock, began lashing whips of flame (Incendio) around herself. Barlas had conjured a massive wind shield (Arresto Momentum) around himself with the silver head of his wand, but the bone army crashed against his shield in waves. The calculating face of the hunter was now contorted with pure fear of death. Right in the center of the mayhem stood Nazir, rising within a tornado of bones. Sharp pieces of marble and bones flying around him swirled like an impenetrable armor protecting him. Darius’s earpiece crackled. “Boss!” Kuzey’s voice was tense and fast. “My line of fire is completely blocked. The bone storm around Nazir is swallowing the projectiles. I can’t hit him!” “Don’t shoot anyway!” roared Darius, cleaving a massive Carian guard lunging at him in two with his wand. “We’re falling back! This isn’t a battle, it’s a massacre!” Darius plunged his wand into the ground and turned to Barlas. “Swallow your pride and get your men out of here, Barlas! Or else you’ll become permanent guards to Mausolus!” Barlas looked at Darius in anger but could see the circle around them closing in. Setting Ministry protocols aside, he shouted to his men: “Scatter! Apparate outside the boundary!” Darius took a deep breath to gather his team at a single point. He adjusted the tip of his wand for a forbidden and dangerous combination he had never tried before. A devastating retreat spell that bent space and time simultaneously. “Lidya! Meltem! Hold on to me!” The moment the two women grabbed onto Darius’s shoulders, Darius raised his wand to the sky. “Portus Expulso!” The energy shooting from Darius’s wand created a massive, blue vacuum right in the middle of where they stood. As dozens of skeletons around them were thrown back by the detonating shockwave, the fabric of space tore. With the sound of a vacuum, the CORE team vanished from there in seconds. Barlas and Vera barely apparated in a different direction, dragging Okan and Sina by their collars. Seconds later, all that remained in the courtyard of the Mausoleum were shattered historical artifacts, thousands of skeleton guards, and in their midst, a maddened Abu Nazir, illuminating the night with the green fire in his eyes. 33Please respect copyright.PENANApwhMewa1e4
