Blackthorn Facility sat on the far edge of Jedburgh, half‑swallowed by the forest and fenced off with rusted metal that hadn’t been touched in years. The government claimed it was “decommissioned.” Everyone in town knew that was a lie.
By the time Lillie , Lilly , Madison, Theo, mason and Bear reached the fence, the sun was already sinking behind the trees, turning the sky a bruised purple.
Madison stared at the towering building beyond the fence. “Okay… this looks like the start of every horror movie ever.”
Lilly hugged herself. “Why are we here again?”
Lillie pointed at the ground. “Because those footprints we saw in the woods? They lead this way.”
Theo nodded. “And because Jamie Carter’s last phone ping was near here before the blackout.”
Mason swallowed. “And because we’re all insane.”
Bear growled softly, pacing along the fence, nose low to the ground. He stopped at a section where the metal sagged inward, as if something had pushed it from the other side.
Lillie crouched. “There’s a gap. We can squeeze through.”
Lilly’s eyes widened. “We’re actually going in?”
Madison grinned. “Obviously.”
Theo sighed. “We’re going to die.”
But he followed anyway.
One by one, they slipped through the bent fence. Bear squeezed through last, shaking off the dirt.
Inside the perimeter, the air felt colder. Still. Heavy.
The building loomed above them — tall, grey, windowless. A single metal door sat at the base, covered in peeling paint and warning signs.
