　　夕暮れは、遠い山稜の彼方から静かに降りてきて、荒廃した街道を鈍い茜色に染め上げていた。風には焼けた木材の煤、湿った土、そして微かな血の匂いが混じっている。かつて人々の往来で賑わった辺境の町は、今や崩れた屋根と裂けた石壁だけを残し、逃れた者たちは互いの身体を支えながら、行く先も知らぬまま歩き続けていた。
