Sarah shot up from bed, shaking, her hair splayed out around her face in fear sweat streaks. Two words had followed her around for the last month, “my world.” They always showed up. Every time she bought something…those two words would be written somewhere on it the next day. One time she had had a fling over, and the next morning after he was gone, scribbled on her mirror in her burgundy lipstick was those two words… “MY world.” It was like she was being claimed…stalked.
Sarah’s breath came faster and faster as she looked at the same mirror, only to see that yet again…there was writing on it. Sarah carefully climbed out of bed, heart hammering against her chest as she carefully approached the mirror, almost like it would swallow her whole. Scribbled on the mirror in the familiar messy yet neat handwriting was the same message just…altered. “You’re my world, Sarah…mine.”
Sarah stumbled back from the mirror like it was burning her, letting out a chocked sob as she realized someone had been in her room, watching her sleep, and she hadn’t known at all. The mirror tilted with her sudden movement, and slowly keeled forward, shattering at her feet. In the shards, she could still make out some of the words… ”Sarah….mine.” She shook harder, sobbing louder.Over the sound of her sobbing, Sarah could hear the faintest creak in her floorboards. She turned around quickly, slicing her foot on one of the shards of glass as a startled scream ripped from her lips. Behind her, was a man. Tall, thin but clearly not weak, clean shaven, and a messed up smile spread over his face. “Hello…my world.” The man rasped. Sarah screamed again, even louder this time, her voice piercing through her walls.
…
The next day, the door to Sarah’s apartment was taped up with yellow police tape, and an officer was standing by the door, his walkie-talkie crackling in the quiet morning air. The officer was clean shaven, with kind looking eyes…though his smile was just a bit too wide. As if his world had been completed.
