The Difference

People think being alone means having nobody.

It doesn't.

Being alone is sitting in a crowded room

and realizing nobody knows you're hurting.

It is typing “I'm fine”

because explaining the truth feels harder.

It is laughing with everyone

and crying quietly when you get home.

It is having a hundred people around you

and still wishing for just one

who would notice the silence behind your smile.

But sometimes…

being alone is peaceful.

It is closing your door

and finally hearing your own thoughts.

It is walking beneath a sky

that belongs to nobody.

It is eating your favourite food

without having to share.

It is discovering that your own company

isn't something you need to escape from.

I've learned that loneliness asks,

“Why doesn't anyone choose me?”

But being alone asks,

“Why can't I choose myself?”

And maybe that's the difference.

Loneliness is waiting for someone

to come and fill the empty chair.

Being alone is sitting in it yourself

and realizing—

you were never empty.

You were only waiting

to meet yourself.241Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡSGfXjjjHed
