It was morning at 10:32 am. Hanabi was sitting on the hospital bed with her arms crossed, her right hand on her chin, thinking desperately.
*The man who shot me is dead...* she said in her subconscious as she remained silent. *And he committed suicide... but why? Could it be that he was the one that brutally killed his own men, as I was told and shown on the news recently? Then he was horrified, and that's why he killed himself by hanging? No way.*
She crossed her arms and leaned back on the bed.
*Was he possessed, or was there a misunderstanding? And P... I wonder what happened to him. The police said that no traces of him were found. It was like he never existed,* she said in her subconscious. She turned her head to the left toward the window wall to view the outside, looking at the modern city view that the sun shone on. *But what I experienced felt real and true, but the evidence proved everything wrong. I even called the police yesterday night and told them about the chain he broke and the numbers on the chairs we were tied to in the room, which were four. But the police reported back that there was no sign of any broken metal, and there were only three chairs, and they even explained that the conflict might have begun in the building.*
She raised her body up and sat on the bed, laying her back against the bed's back protector, and picked up her phone, opening it and scrolling.
*They even sent a CCTV footage to me on my phone, and in the video, I was alone. I was released by one of the criminals, then I turned at him, he was then shot, and I ran out. But I spotted a grenade on the exit, and I fell and blew up the stairs. And that was how I made it to the ceiling. Then, as for how I survived jumping from such a height, the police found a parachute and two daggers with my DNA print on them.*
She then sighed. "Harrrrh, this is so frustrating." She dropped her phone, then covered her forehead with her right hand. *Could it be that what I thought was real was just my imagination? It could be! Because what type of man nowadays would literally be willing to break chains with bare hands, help you fight their way out of a criminal's den, and protect you from the world by taking bullets and cuts for your sake, and not care about himself dying at all? He never leaves you behind, even though it seems like he wants to, and also at the same time seems like a regular guy.*
She removed her hand from her forehead. *Nahhh, men like that don't exist. Am I crazy to go risk my life for someone?* She then remembered running back to help P, who was lying in the snow and shouting for her to go in slow motion. Her eyes glinted. *You only see all that stuff in fiction, not real life.*
She then closed her eyes while taking a deep breath, then opened her eyes back with a bright face. "So, Hanabi has now fully assumed that everything I thought I experienced was just me and my crazy imagination desperate to survive. That's it!" she said, this time aloud with confidence.
The door opened.
"Hanabi, who are you talking to?" said a girl just at Hanabi's age, as three others followed.
"Yuki...!" Hanabi said as she turned her head to the stranger with excitement. It was her friends.
"Hanabi...!" her friends said happily as they hurried up to her and all gave her a huge hug on the bed.
"Ohhhhhhhh, Hanabi, we missed you so much!" said Yu-na loudly, a friend of Hanabi, with tears flowing out of her eyes like a blue river.
"We thought you were dead! We thought we would never see you again! We were so worried!" said Mio loudly, also a friend of Hanabi, crying out loud.
"When you were gone, I wondered how life without you would feel like, then I became terrified and cried, it was horrible... We have been besties from childhood, and my life without you guys is—is meaningless!" said Min-seo loudly and tearfully, while they were still hugging each other.
"Me too...!" they all said loudly.
"WAAAAHHHAHHAAHHH!"
They all began crying loudly, pouring a blue ocean of tears out on the bed, which disturbed the hospital and began a large chattering by the patients who could hear them.
"Keep down the noise, evil children!" shouted an angry granny from the room below Hanabi's.
"Hey, keep it down!" said a man's voice.
"You're all too noisy!" said another man's voice.
"Someone discharge them immediately!" said a distant voice.
"You need to leave," said another old lady from another room.
They all stayed quiet after realizing what they had done, except one.
"Shut up, old lady, and mind your own business!" said a pissed Yuki, putting her hands on her waist. She was wearing jeans and a yellow shirt, stepping hard on the floor right where the old granny was below.
"Children nowadays have no respect! Apologize, you idiotic child with no manners, to an old lady!" said the granny from below angrily.
Hanabi wanted to say something but could only watch.
"Idiotic?!" Yuki's face turned red with anger as smoke practically came out of her head. "You bitch of an old lady! Apologize to you? Come up here and kiss my ass, idiotic old woman!" said an angry Yuki, pointing down at the ground.
"How dare you insult me, you insect!" the granny angrily said from her room, sitting in her chair, raising her right hand up and shaking it at the ceiling above her angrily. "I'm coming for you, evil child, and you will regret it when you feel my wrath!"
"Yeah, come up here! I haven't beaten an old lady in my entire life—you being the first would be exhilarating!" said Yuki angrily, driving her left fist into her right palm.
"Just you wait, child of evil!" said the granny.
"She's finally met her match," said Mio, sitting on Hanabi's bed with her hands folded, followed by a sigh.
"Yuki, I think you should—" said Min-seo calmly and gently, but before she could complete her sentence, she stopped herself.
"Should what...?" Yuki said angrily with a tense voice, crackingly turning her head backward slowly with her eyes glowing red toward Min-seo.
"Stay away from me, evil lady!" Min-seo said, frightened, and immediately jumped behind Hanabi to protect herself.
Yuki started walking angrily towards Min-seo.
"Here we go again," said Yu-na, pressing her phone with chewing gum in her mouth.
"Alright, everyone calm down," Hanabi intervened. "Did you guys just come for a visit? And what's with the huge teddy bear anyway?" She pointed at the teddy bear sitting on the chair beside her.
"Oh, it's a gift," said Min-seo, clutching at Hanabi's garment.
"We won it at the circus at the amusement park," said Yu-na as she turned off her phone and put it in her pocket.
"So, Hanabi, tell us about how you were kidnapped and what actually happened after that," said Mio curiously as she held Hanabi.
"Yeah, tell us! You even left your car on the road. How can you be so careless?" said Yuki, her right hand on her waist while she pointed at Hanabi with her left index finger.
"Careless?!" Hanabi shouted, turning in shock. "I wasn't careless! And as for when I was kidnapped and after it, it's a lot confusing," said Hanabi, scratching her head.
"Just tell us!" her friends all demanded.
"Okay, fine... fine, I will tell you guys, but don't call me crazy after I'm done," said Hanabi.
Her friends all looked at each other and back to her. "Sure," they all said.
Hanabi then started talking, explaining the entire incident from start to finish. "And that's it... and I'm still confused," said Hanabi, sighing, tired from the storytelling.
Her friends were looking at her with their mouths wide open.
"Whaaaaat?!" they all said.
"What?" said Hanabi.
"Your story doesn't make any sense," said Yu-na.
"Guys like him don't exist, it's probably just your imagination. My boyfriend would never in a million years pull something like that," said Yuki nonchalantly.
"It's actually a good story. I think I am going to write a novel about this," said Min-seo.
"Write what?!" said Yuki, pissed.
"Leave me alone!" Min-seo clutched Hanabi tightly.
"But something doesn't add up," Mio said curiously. "You said you probably passed out when shot, and the last thing you saw was P's face. Do you still remember his face and the moment?"
"Yes, I still remember his face and the moment, but all evidence points to the fact that he never existed," said Hanabi.
"Yeah, it could be true, but—" Mio started, but Yuki instantly cut in.
"Just forget about it, Hanabi! What matters is that you are here safe and sound," said Yuki.
"Yeah, thank you," Hanabi smiled at her, and Yuki smiled back warmly too.
"Weeeell, I suppose so," said Mio, still a little bit curious.
"Okay then, here you go—your teddy bear," Yu-na said as she picked up the teddy bear and gave it to Hanabi.
"Thank you," said Hanabi with gratitude, raising the teddy bear up and looking at its face.
"So, what are you going to name it?" asked Min-seo.
"Name it? Seriously?" said Yuki, energetic.
"Calm down, Yuki. I think I'm going to name it..." Hanabi looked at the face closely, "...P," she said happily and brightly. Then, noticing her friends' gazes, she added, "Well, it's because of my imaginary friend I survived, so why don't I name him P? At least he's in the physical realm!"
"I think it's a cute name," said Min-seo.
"Shut up!" said Yuki.
"Just leave me alone already or else I will rebel!" said Min-seo with a serious tone, finally retaliating.
"Do you want a piece of me?!" said Yuki.
"Well, Hanabi, on our way here we saw your guardian," said Mio.
"Yeah, she asked us to tell you to come see her. She looked angry," said Yu-na.
"Oh..." Hanabi shivered while smiling. "I forgot my lucky bracelet on her," said Hanabi, rubbing her right wrist.
*BAM!*
The door to the room suddenly burst open as a thick smoke screen moved through the entrance. Outside the room, the hallway was dark, but a single light bulb was glitching off and on in a deep red color. It repeated this sequence three times while the girls in the room looked out the door in wonder, and Min-seo, completely frightened, hid under Hanabi's blanket.
Immediately, the light went off for the fourth time and turned back on.
*Bzzzzt!*
The short, old granny had appeared, both hands behind her back. She gave a dead stare straight into the room at Yuki.
Yuki, who had been bullying Min-seo before she hid in the blanket, turned and gazed at the granny. Her mouth opened slightly, her face frozen in shock, before she immediately broke into a competitive smile.
"So, old lady, you finally showed up." She walked up to the chair beside Hanabi and stomped her right leg hard on it. "The showdown is about to start. I've been waiting for this!" said Yuki with pure joy.
"Then let's go. Graanny!" Yuki shouted, excited.
The old lady stood enveloped in the dark mist, right in the middle of the red flashing light, her face serious and cold as hell. She was ready for a goddamn fight to the core.19Please respect copyright.PENANAKFWn5T2ibc
