TONG TONG ENTERPRISE:

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡkzFSBbSauB

Inside the store, a staring contest unfolded between the two of them.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡReG31zaCLk

The shopkeeper's eyes narrowed, locked on something — or someone.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡIiRNG0VAnR

P blinked. He stood calmly on the other side of the counter, staring right back.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡbEOh67kTJP

Neither said a word.

...

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡLeuBJwx6kW

...

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡ10IaJCgW9Z

P blinked again. The shopkeeper's eyes narrowed further, dead serious.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡfrHtFl4pxn

"......"

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡWKH21jhkiP

"......"

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡgJwluPCGXC

P tilted his head.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡa2jSIWBvPM

"So... about the job?" said P.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡAmii3lf6VQ

The shopkeeper's narrowed eyes widened.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡ9zYfhm9761

"Well, you see... I don't actually have the money to pay an employee," said the shopkeeper.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡ1DSOyyOpN1

"Oh.... is that so..." P's eyes drifted to the side, disappointed.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡYEGZHhFfun

"Yep — sorry," said the shopkeeper. "But you're welcome to work for free, if you want."

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡhYiQAA2Pdy

"No, I can't do that. I was really just looking for a paying job. Sorry," P said, politely declining.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡidJfCVHDpS

"It's fine. So now what?" said the shopkeeper.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡzVWjjsVPxr

They both fell silent for a moment.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡ4f8wAbQfop

...............

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡyJ5Gzzv2PZ

"Well, do you happen to know where I could find a job that's actually available..." said P.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡQgwIvt4ham

"—with pay!" he quickly added.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡ8wzgslG7lR

"A job with pay?....." the shopkeeper thought.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡyq23PIbPvl

"...Well, can you actually work?" asked the shopkeeper.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡ5ybuDG03UJ

"Yes!" P replied energetically.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡzSdpW6ep2p

"Then there's a job open — not around here, though. It's bricklaying work. You'll be carrying cement and doing a lot of heavy lifting. I hope you understand that," said the shopkeeper.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡx2q9MUiEzI

"Yes, I can do that! I'm actually built for that kind of work," said P, energized.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡIKN7B2mWlj

"O....kaaay...." said the shopkeeper.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡWEYaLUMnpl

"The pay's decent, but like I said, it's not around here," said the shopkeeper.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡ4usNF9sW8p

"So where's this job? Where can I find it?" P asked, interested.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡcemzQHjkqc

"You can find it not too far from here, in Shinmachi-Ome. Once you get there, you'll see an ongoing construction site — just ask for Engineer Kamar, and you'll know what to say from there," said the shopkeeper.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡmgbCYnJ23D

"The job usually runs from around 10 AM to 3 PM, and it looks like they've already started," said the shopkeeper.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡKyGCr4rFxE

He glanced at the clock on the wall. "It's already 10:17. They usually take in extra workers between 10 and noon, and it takes about an hour to get there... you'd better hurry," said the shopkeeper.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡmi6bWotXZm

"Okay, thank you," said P, turning to leave.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡgEPyGKEMef

"Mind your business..! It's to attract customers," the shopkeeper snapped.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡM1RvZo11yR

P paused for a moment, blinking in utter confusion.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡVDSstZJ8Gk

"Mtch- I don't know, but okay!" P muttered, turning to walk toward the exit.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡSF8bEYlm1J

"And don't forget to tell him he still owes Tong Tong!" the shopkeeper shouted.

"And it's already 10:17, maybe 10:18..." P thought, closing his eyes. He broke into a jog in broad daylight.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡAsMuEGCW3f

His sudden burst of speed caught the attention of people along the road, and a few passing drivers.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡUzPHz6ey97

"P...!" a voice called out.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡdSfcTIzowv

He snapped out of it instantly, his eyes returning to normal.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡxr8OZzfuAl

P turned his head.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡnqGE1ozdLg

VROOOOOM.......

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡoIqBqwDbDf

It was Hanabi, driving with her window rolled down.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡeyuveZKbE1

She pulled close to the curb.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡnUEKjIKT8H

"What are you doing?" Hanabi shouted, eyes wide with shock, as she drove closer.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡnJdcpSFg7a

P stared at her, dumbfounded, as she approached.

P blinked.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡ5viAcs7RRh

"I was about to head somewhere for work!" said P.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡUX5gTfEjKh

"Oh, is that so..." said Hanabi. "Now's my chance," she thought.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡqvrM0iugVN

"Then hop in, I'll drop you off..." said Hanabi.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡ20VlgoB8yZ

SLAM—

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡtJ4WMYEgnz

The car door slammed shut, and they drove off.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡNmXbn2cgKG

VROOM.........

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡ5PKABavpu1

Inside the car, they sat in silence as she drove.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡOk2PzkGvZd

Hanabi glanced at P, then back to the road. "So, where am I dropping you off?" she asked.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡLQ9FPCbeWZ

"Ome... Shinmachi," said P.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡbxeVhSWEOx

"Ome... my parents live there," said Hanabi.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡ2x74dVHZ03

"Oh- okay," said P. "Her parents live in Ome," he thought.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡ2OwisrN4Vv

"So are you an only child?" P asked.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡFSDQCN1DR0

"No, actually I'm the second born... I have an older brother," said Hanabi.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡcRhMHarZba

"You have an older brother? What's he like?" P asked.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡLg7SgCCR3s

"Haha- well... he's actually pretty grumpy, can be annoying sometimes," said Hanabi, brightly.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡaRA3LnX2tu

"Hmm-" P hummed.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡ0ElZ0sKccZ

"But deep down, he's actually a good, considerate person," said Hanabi, smiling.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡKXSxN0TcCl

P looked at her quietly, then turned back to the road.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡdQPb5tDL4f

"I should probably drive a bit faster — I'm actually running late for work... damn," said Hanabi.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡORw0s0Hs6o

"The car's working fine, huh. Okay, what are you plotting, you curse of bad luck... my bad luck hasn't caused any havoc these past few days, I guess," Hanabi thought, eyes narrowing.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡAcMtP7z5Vg

"Except for last night, when I ducked behind that table and Arthur fired at me. It just rolled away, leaving me exposed..." Hanabi thought.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡauqxAYOtom

"If P hadn't stopped Arthur before he could shoot, I'd be dead," she thought.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡQ1HL0D6ku5

"Are you okay?" P asked.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡ4je5PuQLGh

"Yeah, sure," Hanabi said, snapping back to the present. "So, P..."

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡNNUkTT9wmL

"Hmm?" P hummed.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡ4BhUu0k05p

"I'd like to apologize for yelling at you earlier. I was angry that you forced open my trunk, and I forgot that you saved my life last night," said Hanabi.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡbAdud9FjH0

"If it wasn't for you, I wouldn't be alive today. I'm sorry. You were only trying to help, and I panicked completely. I forgot my life was worth more than anything," said Hanabi.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡ6S0DGy1ReA

"Thank you..." said Hanabi.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡIBZgw29Njj

P blinked, then smiled quietly at her as she drove, unaware.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡ0ZlWtM56jx

RING... RING....

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡXFsTJAOwyP

Hanabi's phone rang from her handbag.

She dug through her purse and pulled it out.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡl91aFIhSNc

RING... RING...

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡqDXGe4sSzH

"Mom?..." Hanabi thought, surprised.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡbU5wAXhkGK

The car kept moving along the busy road.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡY4vLVRCw1H

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡxm9X3yxCFf

P's eyes drifted toward her.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡdphfpqSYQu

"So why'd you call?" Hanabi asked.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡwhJ2904bOA

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡ20RimrDEZu

"You want me to come visit?" said Hanabi.

"It's important? ...Okay, I'm actually on my way there," said Hanabi.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡPxsV11uuyU

"Okay, Mom, I will..."

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡkCxQuZz3ke

P's eyes drifted back to the road.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡnfYrD0TFcH

BEEP.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡ7ytfMNe5Yz

"Looks like I'm going to miss the morning shift... my parents want me to visit, and that's in Ome, close to Shinmachi," said Hanabi.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡ8lKl2DxVRy

"Oh—" said P.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡcJFV9zWfog

"So we're headed to the same place," said Hanabi, warmly.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡI1kv8QuHNN

"Okay, but could you drive a bit faster? I need to get to Ome in under an hour," P asked.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡeM1v4D860j

"Oh! I can do that," Hanabi grinned.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡLisGa39eqz

"Are you—" P started.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡlxlwg4gzRr

"Hold on.."

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡwx54c5haYn

Hanabi slammed on the brakes.

The entire town descended into panic, buildings cracked and burning in its wake.

The front panel of the wrecked car fell off.

The battered door crashed to the ground.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡj8HFyPDtZp

P, a cut across his forehead, turned slowly to look at the door lying beside him.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡPHkpg8M0dg

The door was gone.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡ8pjPBcejYB

Most of the windshield was gone too — only a shattered fragment remained on Hanabi's side.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡmPlIwy45jL

P turned to look at her.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡvQ656kPCXz

Hanabi's hair was a mess, blood dripping from her nose and mouth, cuts across her forehead and cheeks — and she was grinning ear to ear.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡLZdDPoMeyw

"We're here!" said Hanabi.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡZS2DnPSOer

"O...kaaaay...." said P, smiling nervously through gritted teeth.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡKVtuf3984n

"And you've still got twenty minutes to spare," said Hanabi.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡzAZmVkHOkD

"Oh- then, thank you," said P, about to leave.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡip6OsyjfYM

"Here...." Hanabi held out a hundred-dollar bill.

"Take it. Go get some treatment — you look terrible," said Hanabi.

Hanabi reached for the doorknob.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡLB3wTkpgf4

She opened the door and stepped inside.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡsxp1mDTTll

"Mom! —"

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡM0Zk1vLzLT

She stopped abruptly, eyes widening.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡenMDYarJ3p

The living room was spacious, three couches arranged around a table.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡgDqVBitgZB

Sunlight streamed through the windows, lighting up the white walls and furniture.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡPVHtKkZ4IC

Sitting on one of the couches were her mother and father.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡ0QvBqYbGK0

"Hanabi..." her mother said calmly.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡV9bMbrLo89

But that wasn't what stopped her.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡxwLCtRc17K

On the couch beside them sat an elderly woman.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡUXG412jdF1

"Gran Sarume?!" said Hanabi.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡuAZWv5YjN6

A large construction site came into view — buildings under construction, piles of bricks, cement bags, and materials scattered everywhere.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡBpx6ZCC3x1

P's eyes lit up as he stopped walking.

"Oh, you're here for the job?"

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡbQbRltV3aK

"Yes!" said P.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡfRebBmSZqF

The worker scratched his head. "Sorry, but we've already filled the extra worker slots."

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡxLI0oKbJD1

P blinked.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡjYch8bmuMQ

"Hm? What did you say?" said P, confused.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡJvW80ZBUwY

"I said there's no spot left," said the worker.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡpwPrizFUXk

"……WHAT?" P shouted.

SHFF!

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡbtooY4VJe3

The worker kept mixing cement with his shovel.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡkiSpH41Qx1

"HOW COULD THIS BE?!" P thought, his chest tightening painfully.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡPmPq0Gg46V

The worker stared at him.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡx6stE5F30S

"Uh…"

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡ0Ew1Cm7xXU

P slowly raised his head.

FLASHBACK—

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡfBZD6xbZuB

Hanabi sat behind the wheel, grinning confidently.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡsYOhzYvrSq

"And you've still got twenty minutes to spare..."

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡYtJVt7sXLe

END OF FLASHBACK.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡ6MghI41lqR

"Tsk- GODDAMN IT," P smacked his own face.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡGXcolyPRoD

"I should've moved faster," P thought.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡOE3bD2HBMk

"Arggggh- whatever…" P sighed.

SHFF—

"Could there be any spots open tomorrow?" P asked.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡEr8Ww0WmA7

SHFF!

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡNa07NgoPTj

The worker paused. "I don't know... but try coming by tomorrow." He nodded.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡpIeMoq4W19

"There might be something open then," said the worker.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡGOOTnUqDBJ

"Okay, no problem! Thank you, I appreciate it," said P.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡf77Y7MuczT

"Yeah...!" said the worker, and they shook hands and bumped shoulders.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡJmWrIPNrp1

"Oh? I will," said the worker, waving with a thumbs-up.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡv0ZSHz0HfN

The worker went back to shoveling.

He rubbed his forehead, unaware that someone was watching him.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡDxpKC3xRsl

SOMEONE WAS WATCHING HIM.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡCPixYP2MQJ

IN A BUILDING OVERLOOKING THE ROADSIDE:

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡz8RrJKw5YV

The upper floor of a nearby abandoned building sat quiet.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡl9t8DBUbgJ

Cool air drifted through the open windows, the distant hum of traffic barely disturbing the silence.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡfyLUSScwwG

A figure knelt by one of the windows, a rifle braced in her hands.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡVbRFlNtOOs

Long black hair cascaded down her back.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡmIirSZ0d4T

Her expression was calm, her eyes a focused blue.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡ1pRl0cIoBy

The sniper rifle was trained carefully on the street below.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡ4sSFRPqQWs

She looked through the scope.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡE2JNjyD0Do

The crosshairs settled on P as he walked casually along the road.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡn71hGsgWyN

……

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡosQkLO34hI

She adjusted her aim slightly, breathing steady, finger resting near the trigger.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡnSuaTHWG1f

Through the scope, she watched him glance toward a nearby shop.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡdoOu1jBEni

"Target acquired," she murmured, her voice cold and composed.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡT67e4tfrL5

She made a slight adjustment.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡeFpzpHT88h

"Mei!" she called out calmly.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡfAZmkATQuU

"DAMN- h," said Mei through the comm.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡcmoacYyFAF

"Mei!" she called again.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡTrnYNqtObJ

WHOOOSH

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡI61oj9bmzG

A figure with long, curled orange-yellow hair landed on the rooftop.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡNyuaFz1aa2

"Already in position! And you?" Mei said, startled.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡ7puD4LUE3L

"Haa......." the sniper sighed, frustrated, through the comm.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡxls68qpqlZ

Meanwhile, P continued walking, unaware.

A small pharmacy came into view ahead.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡS8cIo5SjVQ

His eyes brightened.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡtCMZTFmSoW

"Finally…" said P, quickening his pace.

TMP. TMP.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡlW9LRtSqyw

But as he approached the pharmacy entrance...

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡzzZtg4k3Hw

Something felt off.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡh2TJEJYfOv

"Hm?" His eyes widened.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡlOxFySjCLR

TEEEW.... KLANGGGG!!!

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡVSi4pUIWUS

BOOM!

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡbN35ZFAy2u

The entire area exploded, as if struck by a missile.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡnUMDlWTA1z

SSSHHHHHH.....

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡci3eVElBnJ

Dust filled the air.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡHwIyrW4GOy

Whatever the attack was, P had somehow dodged it.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡ6Ql57ikDwj

"HUFF- HUFF-" P caught his breath.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡ5mSGiKGPZc

SSSSSHHHH....

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡ9aFbp9uQTG

As the dust began to settle, a shadowy female figure emerged, a massive axe slung over her shoulder.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡ9FFuWR5xge

"You managed to dodge my attack, huh," the woman said.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡn14Rck7ZLA

"Quite impressive," she chuckled.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡL02623C6PA

"What the hell!" P thought.113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡde4Li68uKu
