TONG TONG ENTERPRISE:

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡ7o95RHvs9U

Inside the store, a staring contest unfolded between the two of them.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡXwTaPcMGtN

The shopkeeper's eyes narrowed, locked on something — or someone.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡCtpCDPbyFP

P blinked. He stood calmly on the other side of the counter, staring right back.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡcra0Lg8REf

Neither said a word.

...

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡnuygMWl4pc

...

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡB8d1jTtBme

P blinked again. The shopkeeper's eyes narrowed further, dead serious.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡITRYet7CJB

"......"

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡZbtpynDcwY

"......"

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡfy662w7XZJ

P tilted his head.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡ39ljvEIQZY

"So... about the job?" said P.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡPqAmikFAjn

The shopkeeper's narrowed eyes widened.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡ09dUE56oQg

"Well, you see... I don't actually have the money to pay an employee," said the shopkeeper.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡb5osJgp6Vn

"Oh.... is that so..." P's eyes drifted to the side, disappointed.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡc9UVyuVnDE

"Yep — sorry," said the shopkeeper. "But you're welcome to work for free, if you want."

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡJU3SnzfLOj

"No, I can't do that. I was really just looking for a paying job. Sorry," P said, politely declining.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡuVlz9lQJPM

"It's fine. So now what?" said the shopkeeper.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡGnPmroKw7I

They both fell silent for a moment.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡGaiQ44MPRZ

...............

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡIMdC6JDKrJ

"Well, do you happen to know where I could find a job that's actually available..." said P.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡ0yBTguPvaK

"—with pay!" he quickly added.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡds1fGx7tZs

"A job with pay?....." the shopkeeper thought.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡPlw9MO3OE4

"...Well, can you actually work?" asked the shopkeeper.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡlnm5R61SVn

"Yes!" P replied energetically.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡZyRdkKflLT

"Then there's a job open — not around here, though. It's bricklaying work. You'll be carrying cement and doing a lot of heavy lifting. I hope you understand that," said the shopkeeper.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡQmZlbFjMwD

"Yes, I can do that! I'm actually built for that kind of work," said P, energized.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡcJfUzON34n

"O....kaaay...." said the shopkeeper.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡZoKn3sZTr2

"The pay's decent, but like I said, it's not around here," said the shopkeeper.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡ7ewaJT91Db

"So where's this job? Where can I find it?" P asked, interested.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡ1QUFuKwVeW

"You can find it not too far from here, in Shinmachi-Ome. Once you get there, you'll see an ongoing construction site — just ask for Engineer Kamar, and you'll know what to say from there," said the shopkeeper.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡBKyAy0Us5f

"The job usually runs from around 10 AM to 3 PM, and it looks like they've already started," said the shopkeeper.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡwIVsPZE1lf

He glanced at the clock on the wall. "It's already 10:17. They usually take in extra workers between 10 and noon, and it takes about an hour to get there... you'd better hurry," said the shopkeeper.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡM5UWfKpzLD

"Okay, thank you," said P, turning to leave.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡ2V5X64hzQp

"Mind your business..! It's to attract customers," the shopkeeper snapped.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡ4fgMRBGyk2

P paused for a moment, blinking in utter confusion.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡUmQ3IdsCHV

"Mtch- I don't know, but okay!" P muttered, turning to walk toward the exit.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡXyllEARrTE

"And don't forget to tell him he still owes Tong Tong!" the shopkeeper shouted.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡZ42NSgQ2WY

His sudden burst of speed caught the attention of people along the road, and a few passing drivers.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡKfrcqf2vCO

He snapped out of it instantly, his eyes returning to normal.

P turned his head.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡkbkZWH4dJY

VROOOOOM.......

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡLJFCNqrqLj

It was Hanabi, driving with her window rolled down.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡcVgUGrc3G6

She pulled close to the curb.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡ1I6WodB7S6

"What are you doing?" Hanabi shouted, eyes wide with shock, as she drove closer.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡBwXYtPfpI9

P stared at her, dumbfounded, as she approached.

P blinked.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡJdNdrfa6DL

"I was about to head somewhere for work!" said P.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡtE2BcJDguQ

"Oh, is that so..." said Hanabi. "Now's my chance," she thought.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡzokuf9rzfu

"Then hop in, I'll drop you off..." said Hanabi.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡ1wwAmutet3

SLAM—

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡbpsXLt7nZ6

The car door slammed shut, and they drove off.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡd1bIRfsf61

VROOM.........

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡVmSPdqm4gr

Inside the car, they sat in silence as she drove.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡQlYB8PKlRQ

Hanabi glanced at P, then back to the road. "So, where am I dropping you off?" she asked.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡOhnsKMknWt

"Ome... Shinmachi," said P.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡLKZ9OmYgmJ

"Ome... my parents live there," said Hanabi.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡMQgg739vxG

"Oh- okay," said P. "Her parents live in Ome," he thought.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡiexuZDEVq8

"So are you an only child?" P asked.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡwQ4QrOykYb

"No, actually I'm the second born... I have an older brother," said Hanabi.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡS8o6CAxcar

"You have an older brother? What's he like?" P asked.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡO2UTSJfG6s

"Haha- well... he's actually pretty grumpy, can be annoying sometimes," said Hanabi, brightly.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡJTf6WsH8J1

"Hmm-" P hummed.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡjMl2pleAdg

"But deep down, he's actually a good, considerate person," said Hanabi, smiling.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡ4ckWsc0j9M

P looked at her quietly, then turned back to the road.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡ6ep0ShdiRi

"I should probably drive a bit faster — I'm actually running late for work... damn," said Hanabi.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡ5HG2iVRVXi

"The car's working fine, huh. Okay, what are you plotting, you curse of bad luck... my bad luck hasn't caused any havoc these past few days, I guess," Hanabi thought, eyes narrowing.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡoOx3j930cY

"Except for last night, when I ducked behind that table and Arthur fired at me. It just rolled away, leaving me exposed..." Hanabi thought.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡpNwTeIyEvS

"If P hadn't stopped Arthur before he could shoot, I'd be dead," she thought.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡmaSrVfEzek

"Are you okay?" P asked.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡTWMf8gcYHm

"Yeah, sure," Hanabi said, snapping back to the present. "So, P..."

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡTUkbsMOTyw

"Hmm?" P hummed.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡ7yvAOVKWaE

"I'd like to apologize for yelling at you earlier. I was angry that you forced open my trunk, and I forgot that you saved my life last night," said Hanabi.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡgi63WYvywY

"If it wasn't for you, I wouldn't be alive today. I'm sorry. You were only trying to help, and I panicked completely. I forgot my life was worth more than anything," said Hanabi.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡaIgFu0nWHD

"Thank you..." said Hanabi.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡMhyjigB1Ir

P blinked, then smiled quietly at her as she drove, unaware.

RING... RING....

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡBYtYKBJtFF

Hanabi's phone rang from her handbag.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡal5biFgXxC

P's eyes drifted toward her.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡwma48mCSVw

"So why'd you call?" Hanabi asked.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡ72H1Xeb014

"It's important? ...Okay, I'm actually on my way there," said Hanabi.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡSWDNJl6fQK

"Okay, Mom, I will..."

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡyqZnfdfqqH

P's eyes drifted back to the road.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡyYuNVU534Q

BEEP.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡ9zVb2tVMuP

"Looks like I'm going to miss the morning shift... my parents want me to visit, and that's in Ome, close to Shinmachi," said Hanabi.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡlkmCTKGSeb

"Oh—" said P.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡkSdbiP2C2a

"So we're headed to the same place," said Hanabi, warmly.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡrf6DV9rNJY

"Okay, but could you drive a bit faster? I need to get to Ome in under an hour," P asked.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡbdRsCEFJ0T

"Oh! I can do that," Hanabi grinned.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡNJMKark5bF

"Are you—" P started.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡAlNsIOaiVC

"Hold on.."

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡPp5Cs9unuK

Hanabi slammed on the brakes.

The front panel of the wrecked car fell off.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡontIjo9nGS

The door was gone.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡAmTzaJfZeL

Most of the windshield was gone too — only a shattered fragment remained on Hanabi's side.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡQiThjR5FGz

P turned to look at her.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡORIROgslEI

Hanabi's hair was a mess, blood dripping from her nose and mouth, cuts across her forehead and cheeks — and she was grinning ear to ear.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡVVB7PI1gfr

"We're here!" said Hanabi.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡOSlmLgrbmz

"O...kaaaay...." said P, smiling nervously through gritted teeth.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡ8nI52ufR54

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡJQtGnbPNKY

"Oh- then, thank you," said P, about to leave.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡNOela4qX1f

"Here...." Hanabi held out a hundred-dollar bill.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡiX5juXPqAX

Hanabi reached for the doorknob.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡCrvP33JAnz

She opened the door and stepped inside.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡS7T9ZKnH0a

"Mom! —"

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡZzT8IsYbrO

She stopped abruptly, eyes widening.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡNrn1nO15MP

The living room was spacious, three couches arranged around a table.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡaCeU9v5tra

Sunlight streamed through the windows, lighting up the white walls and furniture.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡd1z5jQiMUe

Sitting on one of the couches were her mother and father.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡbho5slkx5r

"Hanabi..." her mother said calmly.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡAKq1Aruu0G

But that wasn't what stopped her.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡJKg7khmwfa

On the couch beside them sat an elderly woman.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡWEGtekI3Ht

A large construction site came into view — buildings under construction, piles of bricks, cement bags, and materials scattered everywhere.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡoLHtZVk6af

P's eyes lit up as he stopped walking.

"Yes!" said P.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡ6o9FzXOD8b

The worker scratched his head. "Sorry, but we've already filled the extra worker slots."

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡrJfe5w6Uab

P blinked.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡoxZSfLpNGZ

"Hm? What did you say?" said P, confused.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡQ5qMjCxM4W

"I said there's no spot left," said the worker.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡ9DRk2yuxTB

"……WHAT?" P shouted.

The worker kept mixing cement with his shovel.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡ4q3pGuBpcd

"HOW COULD THIS BE?!" P thought, his chest tightening painfully.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡVFCdyGH6Qm

The worker stared at him.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡXyp6Iac7eU

"Uh…"

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡh6h5XcMQH0

P slowly raised his head.

FLASHBACK—

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡ5rjgAzeD9V

Hanabi sat behind the wheel, grinning confidently.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡvAwfGKqxSF

"And you've still got twenty minutes to spare..."

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡywRV6Fhtuv

END OF FLASHBACK.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡBQZtSy4HTo

"Tsk- GODDAMN IT," P smacked his own face.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡ8xmjKSLd9w

"I should've moved faster," P thought.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡlp1DBdfzRi

"Arggggh- whatever…" P sighed.

The worker paused. "I don't know... but try coming by tomorrow." He nodded.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡCLWY8tnQWF

"There might be something open then," said the worker.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡNLdRj9WvCX

"Okay, no problem! Thank you, I appreciate it," said P.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡs4YzN5H6Np

"Yeah...!" said the worker, and they shook hands and bumped shoulders.

"Oh? I will," said the worker, waving with a thumbs-up.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡUmRPTjIwb6

The worker went back to shoveling.

He rubbed his forehead, unaware that someone was watching him.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡHoRL1Zctrr

SOMEONE WAS WATCHING HIM.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡj5ZTNFQQgB

IN A BUILDING OVERLOOKING THE ROADSIDE:

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡDCTqW1tnRY

The upper floor of a nearby abandoned building sat quiet.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡWIbLFhSFKg

Cool air drifted through the open windows, the distant hum of traffic barely disturbing the silence.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡ7QYq4nGT07

A figure knelt by one of the windows, a rifle braced in her hands.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡPt18oHGGzE

Long black hair cascaded down her back.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡoKKa6TUFzU

Her expression was calm, her eyes a focused blue.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡWcOJwpDmQt

The sniper rifle was trained carefully on the street below.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡnN2lmoEX2b

She looked through the scope.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡ7zbtDC11tl

The crosshairs settled on P as he walked casually along the road.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡdKRi1KG7e9

……

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡDIjVITba3K

She adjusted her aim slightly, breathing steady, finger resting near the trigger.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡoIxS0jdcFK

Through the scope, she watched him glance toward a nearby shop.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡEgaJAFYQQH

"Target acquired," she murmured, her voice cold and composed.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡZQ62tuRLRZ

She made a slight adjustment.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡjtErgARtce

"Mei!" she called out calmly.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡMvzZM6gT3j

"DAMN- h," said Mei through the comm.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡtJZe8E6Vgr

"Mei!" she called again.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡohOneEReNt

WHOOOSH

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡnQoquie58N

A figure with long, curled orange-yellow hair landed on the rooftop.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡTbZA98RaQD

"Already in position! And you?" Mei said, startled.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡ4voeDc0q1Q

"Haa......." the sniper sighed, frustrated, through the comm.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡo7bSN3LMVg

Meanwhile, P continued walking, unaware.

His eyes brightened.

"Finally…" said P, quickening his pace.

Something felt off.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡnTYoAle8cx

"Hm?" His eyes widened.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡA26q9xQgUd

TEEEW.... KLANGGGG!!!

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡtX08EkhcT2

BOOM!

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡ4psxQ3K6My

The entire area exploded, as if struck by a missile.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡQ3ZbmTVcfn

SSSHHHHHH.....

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡVPfjjXh1AM

Dust filled the air.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡhRUWEaxjW1

Whatever the attack was, P had somehow dodged it.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡbzXg5O0sEv

"HUFF- HUFF-" P caught his breath.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡwSBIkQXxtO

SSSSSHHHH....

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡ8IWo1gQRkL

As the dust began to settle, a shadowy female figure emerged, a massive axe slung over her shoulder.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡhXieuTmDWt

"You managed to dodge my attack, huh," the woman said.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡwIi2tbJKL2

"Quite impressive," she chuckled.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡzimQb5nD7r

"What the hell!" P thought.113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡmAhFbMII2D
