TONG TONG ENTERPRISE:

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡg16b7ctf6H

Inside the store, a staring contest unfolded between the two of them.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡQU95FZeVDv

The shopkeeper's eyes narrowed, locked on something — or someone.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡ8dSKkXVt6t

P blinked. He stood calmly on the other side of the counter, staring right back.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡfWBpJFzKFq

Neither said a word.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡ0hvZN7dcfa

...

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡLQRn3oGYJn

P blinked again. The shopkeeper's eyes narrowed further, dead serious.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡbPucdZ3cQc

"......"

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡdUfwioAisn

"......"

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡrl3Fr38wKm

P tilted his head.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡFxwDCrlUVY

"So... about the job?" said P.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡfHMbrH5Dtd

The shopkeeper's narrowed eyes widened.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡK53E4gn05R

"Well, you see... I don't actually have the money to pay an employee," said the shopkeeper.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡP4ceFZzKJs

"Oh.... is that so..." P's eyes drifted to the side, disappointed.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡRmoHuYpOaL

"Yep — sorry," said the shopkeeper. "But you're welcome to work for free, if you want."

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡFQ1yGA5k3C

"No, I can't do that. I was really just looking for a paying job. Sorry," P said, politely declining.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡ0251TVnjnr

"It's fine. So now what?" said the shopkeeper.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡfn1xGodR0h

They both fell silent for a moment.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡZp6xElK6B5

...............

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡkgFdhxa0Dd

"Well, do you happen to know where I could find a job that's actually available..." said P.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡ66QM7Qi3z6

"—with pay!" he quickly added.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡjreSJpTNWE

"A job with pay?....." the shopkeeper thought.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡE5huUef7VC

"...Well, can you actually work?" asked the shopkeeper.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡeMkL882UvQ

"Yes!" P replied energetically.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡ6w3v4xzNYo

"Then there's a job open — not around here, though. It's bricklaying work. You'll be carrying cement and doing a lot of heavy lifting. I hope you understand that," said the shopkeeper.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡrEB7TLQGFh

"Yes, I can do that! I'm actually built for that kind of work," said P, energized.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡjuyB9Ajioh

"O....kaaay...." said the shopkeeper.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡNG0OPASsLP

"The pay's decent, but like I said, it's not around here," said the shopkeeper.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡTVpZ2QQanl

"So where's this job? Where can I find it?" P asked, interested.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡTxNFHavK2J

"You can find it not too far from here, in Shinmachi-Ome. Once you get there, you'll see an ongoing construction site — just ask for Engineer Kamar, and you'll know what to say from there," said the shopkeeper.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡ9JCNmQTs2N

"The job usually runs from around 10 AM to 3 PM, and it looks like they've already started," said the shopkeeper.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡM0CwAj0YbQ

He glanced at the clock on the wall. "It's already 10:17. They usually take in extra workers between 10 and noon, and it takes about an hour to get there... you'd better hurry," said the shopkeeper.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡiSJ0SFPQbD

"Okay, thank you," said P, turning to leave.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡfXY1lOVp8Z

"Mind your business..! It's to attract customers," the shopkeeper snapped.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡwPpHIA3UmC

P paused for a moment, blinking in utter confusion.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡDiHTGAMMBy

"Mtch- I don't know, but okay!" P muttered, turning to walk toward the exit.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡsbIi6C9yMP

"And don't forget to tell him he still owes Tong Tong!" the shopkeeper shouted.

"And it's already 10:17, maybe 10:18..." P thought, closing his eyes. He broke into a jog in broad daylight.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡjoISiwML3Z

His sudden burst of speed caught the attention of people along the road, and a few passing drivers.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡPOuby6aHRh

"P...!" a voice called out.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡjCaAM1NIk9

He snapped out of it instantly, his eyes returning to normal.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡ5DOOVsqLgq

P turned his head.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡ8iEuEhgfHT

VROOOOOM.......

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡ5sBjJhuLX2

It was Hanabi, driving with her window rolled down.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡeV63APVGBI

She pulled close to the curb.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡ1oeAtfMiWU

"What are you doing?" Hanabi shouted, eyes wide with shock, as she drove closer.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡDacGqVbJNp

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡnERowN0aI6

P stared at her, dumbfounded, as she approached.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡ6lHxsolpPC

P blinked.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡ7T1XAersVe

"I was about to head somewhere for work!" said P.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡRXRSOdL4FR

"Oh, is that so..." said Hanabi. "Now's my chance," she thought.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡisQ4DiH4tU

"Then hop in, I'll drop you off..." said Hanabi.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡy2rYCC1a40

SLAM—

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡXSfMwlEUe7

The car door slammed shut, and they drove off.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡloMcgL3WRB

VROOM.........

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡF5eCMnltKj

Inside the car, they sat in silence as she drove.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡWB9bbooivI

Hanabi glanced at P, then back to the road. "So, where am I dropping you off?" she asked.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡg3AGPHhRPc

"Ome... Shinmachi," said P.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡlpudQQqmzV

"Ome... my parents live there," said Hanabi.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡVosZelrMM9

"Oh- okay," said P. "Her parents live in Ome," he thought.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡDgr4ISvagU

"So are you an only child?" P asked.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡ7RHy3MmLO0

"No, actually I'm the second born... I have an older brother," said Hanabi.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡ1Ud3Ed5WP0

"You have an older brother? What's he like?" P asked.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡn3Mfj4klqI

"Haha- well... he's actually pretty grumpy, can be annoying sometimes," said Hanabi, brightly.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡp96lqjIevI

"Hmm-" P hummed.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡVEu2ygbCAd

"But deep down, he's actually a good, considerate person," said Hanabi, smiling.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡbLX20iU01r

P looked at her quietly, then turned back to the road.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡVhKmSZHkT7

"I should probably drive a bit faster — I'm actually running late for work... damn," said Hanabi.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡdGo0gyk9qW

"The car's working fine, huh. Okay, what are you plotting, you curse of bad luck... my bad luck hasn't caused any havoc these past few days, I guess," Hanabi thought, eyes narrowing.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡgkrX31hyPP

"Except for last night, when I ducked behind that table and Arthur fired at me. It just rolled away, leaving me exposed..." Hanabi thought.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡLXXOkRthkK

"If P hadn't stopped Arthur before he could shoot, I'd be dead," she thought.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡQtt3XVs5T5

"Are you okay?" P asked.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡIy5ySvHmmo

"Yeah, sure," Hanabi said, snapping back to the present. "So, P..."

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡHh7Mxi9OX5

"Hmm?" P hummed.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡ26YpPcO3Ju

"I'd like to apologize for yelling at you earlier. I was angry that you forced open my trunk, and I forgot that you saved my life last night," said Hanabi.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡnTLi6OhVz1

"If it wasn't for you, I wouldn't be alive today. I'm sorry. You were only trying to help, and I panicked completely. I forgot my life was worth more than anything," said Hanabi.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡ5PNbkVge7m

"Thank you..." said Hanabi.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡ4Td2GsUcY2

P blinked, then smiled quietly at her as she drove, unaware.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡ3Yo7XX8Ex2

RING... RING....

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡr0Fd1HqHv5

Hanabi's phone rang from her handbag.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡjDf0ZHSQe0

She dug through her purse and pulled it out.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡqpgk1Mqnce

RING... RING...

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡAYLrlF3uL3

"Mom?..." Hanabi thought, surprised.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡQdxRrmbUsu

BEEP.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡ2yRMeuhUpz

"Hello! Mom..." said Hanabi.

The car kept moving along the busy road.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡPo1xJdCfam

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡulziqJoBil

P's eyes drifted toward her.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡvuwfjNOIfU

"So why'd you call?" Hanabi asked.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡF26OPsRz8q

"It's important? ...Okay, I'm actually on my way there," said Hanabi.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡnnGSzSaFV1

"Okay, Mom, I will..."

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡnfVzqdAn2u

P's eyes drifted back to the road.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡNUSWVzcyuF

BEEP.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡVk3l1vTKbB

"Looks like I'm going to miss the morning shift... my parents want me to visit, and that's in Ome, close to Shinmachi," said Hanabi.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡkrXUzdZnZc

"Oh—" said P.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡyvGPkORUA8

"So we're headed to the same place," said Hanabi, warmly.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡU0gcZ6n8KA

"Okay, but could you drive a bit faster? I need to get to Ome in under an hour," P asked.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡjgGTPWTCGK

"Oh! I can do that," Hanabi grinned.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡldbf2gHsuL

"Are you—" P started.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡ4seGSw61WX

"Hold on.."

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡeiT1RxLbe6

Hanabi slammed on the brakes.

The entire town descended into panic, buildings cracked and burning in its wake.

The front panel of the wrecked car fell off.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡBdAwUU4ehO

The battered door crashed to the ground.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡEdoKhfd4gq

P, a cut across his forehead, turned slowly to look at the door lying beside him.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡazaqh6nw1b

The door was gone.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡYazmR1MLfK

Most of the windshield was gone too — only a shattered fragment remained on Hanabi's side.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡZXXLVPeJA8

P turned to look at her.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡgtMjVQ69Bu

Hanabi's hair was a mess, blood dripping from her nose and mouth, cuts across her forehead and cheeks — and she was grinning ear to ear.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡBWvwhkBky3

"We're here!" said Hanabi.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡQZkBTbMEVW

"O...kaaaay...." said P, smiling nervously through gritted teeth.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡivREw6Mup9

"And you've still got twenty minutes to spare," said Hanabi.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡyZDGdEVe9R

"Oh- then, thank you," said P, about to leave.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡ1GfbOMdW3Q

"Here...." Hanabi held out a hundred-dollar bill.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡsFUNQ33lzs

"Take it. Go get some treatment — you look terrible," said Hanabi.

Hanabi reached for the doorknob.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡD3JKNYVj5V

She opened the door and stepped inside.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡnUrTkOkK3I

"Mom! —"

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡlS2PaMDl8z

She stopped abruptly, eyes widening.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡJSGcja8RBc

The living room was spacious, three couches arranged around a table.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡtDcUnYO2gB

Sunlight streamed through the windows, lighting up the white walls and furniture.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡfpi471x5jz

Sitting on one of the couches were her mother and father.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡyA2clRt65F

"Hanabi..." her mother said calmly.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡx0BGky43Ku

But that wasn't what stopped her.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡbvAOZHzSWU

On the couch beside them sat an elderly woman.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡ3O59fuaiUN

"Gran Sarume?!" said Hanabi.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡxHtlFcQtGj

A large construction site came into view — buildings under construction, piles of bricks, cement bags, and materials scattered everywhere.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡsJoCy9x2JE

P's eyes lit up as he stopped walking.

The worker glanced at him.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡeD4kcIvP9r

"Oh, you're here for the job?"

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡ4m1E4g7bU7

"Yes!" said P.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡ0RcH9STAEe

The worker scratched his head. "Sorry, but we've already filled the extra worker slots."

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡDceCxXDOuY

P blinked.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡVR8t0cMfZM

"Hm? What did you say?" said P, confused.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡrXHYSRwvGa

"I said there's no spot left," said the worker.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡvP8sV7BdQa

"……WHAT?" P shouted.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡyNgzDLaFVX

The worker kept mixing cement with his shovel.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡC4IYAQXkri

"HOW COULD THIS BE?!" P thought, his chest tightening painfully.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡeCaBhzd9dF

The worker stared at him.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡcDNfhRbvcD

"Uh…"

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡnDWosVwrEp

P slowly raised his head.

FLASHBACK—

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡUNyL9Mfp4z

Hanabi sat behind the wheel, grinning confidently.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡFXltsi2x18

"And you've still got twenty minutes to spare..."

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡRz7OFlbxDH

END OF FLASHBACK.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡ0qosPL5lre

"Tsk- GODDAMN IT," P smacked his own face.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡCInbvivvaF

"I should've moved faster," P thought.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡTC0mwnNVUB

"Arggggh- whatever…" P sighed.

SHFF!

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡ1f0jH3N2WR

The worker paused. "I don't know... but try coming by tomorrow." He nodded.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡOmdaTQ7Nje

"There might be something open then," said the worker.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡFm6ljRB3hT

"Okay, no problem! Thank you, I appreciate it," said P.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡwCGMrPVpMY

"Yeah...!" said the worker, and they shook hands and bumped shoulders.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡBFmekrI477

"Oh? I will," said the worker, waving with a thumbs-up.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡDnA7mqzDpZ

The worker went back to shoveling.

"Guess I'll just have to find a pharmacist…"

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡH5Kz8nbRQP

He rubbed his forehead, unaware that someone was watching him.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡZvTGmufDEV

SOMEONE WAS WATCHING HIM.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡi4QrTdK55P

IN A BUILDING OVERLOOKING THE ROADSIDE:

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡWfGLx41Ztw

The upper floor of a nearby abandoned building sat quiet.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡfb91cpzte7

Cool air drifted through the open windows, the distant hum of traffic barely disturbing the silence.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡbpko35WbmC

A figure knelt by one of the windows, a rifle braced in her hands.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡuELZ55u7Gf

Long black hair cascaded down her back.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡNbGw1Zglf8

Her expression was calm, her eyes a focused blue.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡl5MJ8yoe6d

The sniper rifle was trained carefully on the street below.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡI6ilFdisN1

She looked through the scope.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡdxsI0hsJts

The crosshairs settled on P as he walked casually along the road.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡmqHNyZYRGG

……

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡyk6rJPIzjR

She adjusted her aim slightly, breathing steady, finger resting near the trigger.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡ174oTiVjiz

Through the scope, she watched him glance toward a nearby shop.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡNHsUTZ7kEm

"Target acquired," she murmured, her voice cold and composed.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡNCXqsvLNdK

She made a slight adjustment.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡR4DtSCsCRG

"Mei!" she called out calmly.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡLxix3OLlLp

"DAMN- h," said Mei through the comm.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡaebLhMFnmP

"Mei!" she called again.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡgMWVwyez0W

WHOOOSH

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡKG1BrfEUfk

A figure with long, curled orange-yellow hair landed on the rooftop.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡyPQPrqhKZe

"Already in position! And you?" Mei said, startled.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡS5EBhmMIm5

"Haa......." the sniper sighed, frustrated, through the comm.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡjUcZX6BYci

Meanwhile, P continued walking, unaware.

A small pharmacy came into view ahead.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡG83anwgChz

His eyes brightened.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡCKRKpZ2XFE

"Finally…" said P, quickening his pace.

TMP. TMP.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡzHXLwh5L6f

But as he approached the pharmacy entrance...

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡwF15c4OUx1

Something felt off.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡygLBWwYY69

"Hm?" His eyes widened.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡKQmNJfPoJq

TEEEW.... KLANGGGG!!!

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡhXPI8Dtt0f

BOOM!

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡfQuENzbxTi

The entire area exploded, as if struck by a missile.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡ0CCZPsrbis

SSSHHHHHH.....

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡw62xoNsUtj

Dust filled the air.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡ05rg8gR53n

Whatever the attack was, P had somehow dodged it.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡyQk9fBefy3

"HUFF- HUFF-" P caught his breath.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡkvAwfUyi9g

SSSSSHHHH....

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡ54OpAThqHN

As the dust began to settle, a shadowy female figure emerged, a massive axe slung over her shoulder.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡT3WVlcI7cC

"You managed to dodge my attack, huh," the woman said.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡ7T4yBKW0zd

"Quite impressive," she chuckled.

113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡNhZhzJl9VL

"What the hell!" P thought.113Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡmrReOKyRc2
