I have lost my shoes. They're nowhere to be found. In the living room, I have searched. The freezer, I've unpacked. Even the gardens hold no record of their trespass. I gather my memories, stacked high and wobbly, and tell myself, again, I have not searched hard enough. So, I upend couches, pour out drawers, and search beneath sinks.
