I have lost my shoes. They're nowhere to be found. In the living room, I have searched. The freezer, I've unpacked. Even the gardens hold no record of their trespass. I gather my memories, stacked high and wobbly, and tell myself, again, I have not searched hard enough. So, I upend couches, pour out drawers, and search beneath sinks. My shoes, oh my favorite shoes- the ones my daughter gifted to me a Father's Day ago, with a red, popsicle-stained smile. I can't disappoint her. They must be near, but they don't respond to my pleas to appear- scoundrels. Then I see a form- a woman. She's tall and pretty. I don't recognize her, but perhaps she has seen my shoes, so I employ her help.
