Something about how the leaves brushed against my skin felt invasive, kind of like how that weird uncle at family gatherings who keeps telling girls how they've "grown up" with that cheap smile and drug store cologne which should put a fire hazard label on them considering they douse themselves in a gallon of it.
I swatted another pair as I walked past the thick masts littering the now seemingly acres large library. The small gusts of wind batting my hair our of my eyes was probably the only thing keeping me from ripping apart the assignment sheet crumpled in my jacket along with Daniels hair.
The more I see him smirking, batting those "I know something you don't" eyes everytime I trot over another patch of sticky moss, the more I wish I had a club I could accidently swing around and accidentally hit him across the head.
Gosh, the morbidity of homicide is turning more appealing by the second I'm stuck in this nightmare.
"You know, you're probably the first person to have circled the same spot four separate times within the span of 5 minutes." Daniel coed, legs dangling from the trunk of the grand tree he had cozied himself on.
"You try spending 5 minutes in jungle la-la land and I'll ask you how much you enjoy it." I scoffed, pulling at wildflower that sprouted in between the reared roots of the huge oak. It's pretty hues of blue and lavender coaxing me to take a whiff.
"I wouldn't do that." Daniel yawned, stretching like a cat as he layed back, eyes lazily looking towards me and the pretty flower.
"Why not?"
"You'll hurt her feelings"
I blinked, this man makes me blink an awful lot.
"And who am I hurting by smelling a flower?"
He stuck his tongue out.
"The mushroom."
"Yes." He smiled
"The mushroom?" I gawked at him.
"Yes, I just agreed with you." He drawled, eyes rolling as he lept of the trunk, gently landing on his feet as he walked ahead, the ground crunching underneath as he moved ahead.
"Okay. That makes sense."
No it absolutely did not.
God- if there is one in this dream jungle of books, beady eyed mushrooms, Miss Dia and Daniel- please please show me the glowing red of the exit, at this point I'll follow it even if it points downward.
I heard my name whispered across my ears as a small wind whirled past my face.
Trust me, the only thing less appealing than being stuck in a jungle-library is being stuck in a talking jungle-library.
Wait a minute.
I felt a jolt root me to the spot I was in.
The wind.
Whipping my head I scanned in between every tree that crossed my vision, windows, there must be windows right? Where else is the wind coming from.
"What is it?" Daniel called out, but something in his voice felt out of character, his voice dropping an octave almost felt like he was.... nevermind, I need to stop over analysing everything this man does.
"Are there any windows?" I blurted, rushing east ward, gently rubbing my palms against the trees as I pushed past them.
"What?"
I whipped my eyes towards him, "Windows, Daniel. Do you know what a window is? It's an empty space in wall's built for the purpose of ventila-"
"I know what a window is." He snickered, "Why do you want to know?"
"Geez, I don't know, I want to try bungee jumping out this joint. It's always been on my bucket list since I was a wee little youngin'." I grunted as I pulled myself up a branch, feeling for something solid. It turns out the deeper you go, the darker it gets. It was impossible to see at this point but my desperation to get out resembled a fish to water.
"I-" he stopped tilting his head sideways almost like he was listening to someone speak.
My fingers brushed against firm wall. Eyes wide I pressed my palm firmly against the concrete, feeling the smoothness and solidity of it pulling my sanity back to me.
"I FOUND-" I felt my self getting whipped back, a wine snaked around my waist pulling me farther and farther away from my discovery, the air around me screaming past my ears.
No, the air around me was screaming.
It was screaming my name.
It wasn't the soft whispers from the books.
I felt myself crash against something, whiplash was the least of my concerns as I looked up to see the 'something' wasn't a thing.
It wasn't Daniel either.
"Hello."
I stared, my heart in my throat as one fairly large and singular eye, blinking rapidly, stared back at me.
