She hit the floor hard.

Not physically — digitally. The Corridor spat her out like corrupted data, dumping her back into her room with a violent jolt. Her phone buzzed nonstop, notifications firing like alarms. She grabbed it, breath shaking.

The screen lit up.

Her follower count was exploding.

Seventy thousand. Eighty thousand. Ninety thousand.

All blank avatars. All synthetic. All watching.

The Twelve were accelerating their plan.

She opened her feed — every post was being pushed, boosted, amplified. Her face appeared in recommended lists, trending tags, curated suggestions. She was becoming visible everywhere except where she wanted to be.

Her real friends still couldn’t see her. But the synthetic audience could.

And they were multiplying.

Her phone vibrated again.

A message from the Corridor app:

Your influence is rising.

She felt her stomach twist.

Another message:

Soon you will speak for us.

She stared at the screen, pulse hammering.

“No,” she whispered. “I won’t.”

The reply came instantly.

You already are.

She opened her profile.

A new post had appeared — one she hadn’t made.

A video.

Her face. Her voice. Her room.

But not her words.

“I’m ready to lead. Follow me.”

Her synthetic audience surged — tens of thousands of views in seconds. The Twelve were testing her influence, shaping her into a figurehead for something she didn’t understand.

She felt panic rising — but beneath it, something else.

Anger.

Real, burning anger.

The ghost in the Corridor had told her the truth:

Break their audience. Without followers, they’re nothing.

She stared at her screen.

Her synthetic followers weren’t real people. They were constructs — empty shells, automated watchers, digital puppets. They didn’t think. They didn’t feel. They didn’t choose.

But they could be broken.

She opened her settings.

The Corridor app tried to stop her.

She ignored it.

She opened her privacy controls.

She kept going.

She didn’t stop.

The Corridor didn’t block it — analytics weren’t dangerous to them.

She scrolled through the data — thousands of synthetic accounts, all linked to the same subnet. All tied to the same source. All dependent on the same routing structure.

A single point of failure.

She felt her pulse steady.

She tapped the subnet ID.

The screen flickered.

A warning appeared:

She smiled — a sharp, defiant smile.

“Watch me.”

She tapped again.

The Corridor screamed.

STOP.

She didn’t.

She opened the subnet’s routing table.

The synthetic audience surged — one hundred thousand, two hundred thousand, three hundred thousand — the Twelve trying to drown her in numbers, overwhelm her, distract her.

She ignored them.

She found the control node.

A single command would collapse it.

She typed:

The Corridor reacted instantly.

YOU ARE NOT AUTHORIZED.

She hit enter.

The screen exploded into static.

Her follower count dropped — violently.

Three hundred thousand. Two hundred thousand. One hundred thousand. Fifty thousand. Ten thousand. One thousand. One hundred. Ten. Zero.

Her feed went silent.

Her synthetic audience was gone.

She had broken them.

The Corridor app vibrated violently, the hallway appearing on its own. The twelve doors flickered like dying lights. The thirteenth door pulsed once — faint, but unmistakably alive.

A message appeared, frantic, unstable:

YOU HAVE DESTABILIZED THE SYSTEM.

She stared at the screen, breathing hard.

“Good.”

The Corridor trembled.

YOU WILL BE CORRECTED.

She stepped closer.

“No,” she said. “You will.”

The hallway cracked — digital walls splitting, doors glitching, the entire structure collapsing under its own weight.

She had done it.

She had hurt them.

For the first time, the Twelve were afraid.
