All three boys look at the gate in horror, this was their first time ever seeing a gate in person. Students scream as they try to run away to safety with teachers guiding them. A few of the seniors and teachers were ready to fight against whatever came out of the gate. Anas's hands were shaking, a few drops of sweat brushed the side of his face, just the sight of a gate opening already filled him with fear as he knew just how dangerous a gate can be. Nex on the other hand, was nervous but excited to finally have a chance to help close a gate and Karasu was as calm as ever on the outside, but his heart was racing. Though they were scared, they were ready to prove to the school why they all belong here and not just some extras in the picture.
Seconds later, Cruels rushed in from out of the gate and magic was being shot left and right and the academy clashed with the Cruels. Fire and explosions were everywhere, some students sustained bad burns and deep wounds. All three of them were shocked that even seniors were getting injured badly, but they focused on what was in front of them. Nex with his purple eyes glowing brightly, summoned two giant purple bone arms with bones crackling at the enemies. Karasu followed Nex's lead, he created a blood scythe and slashed without any rhythm. Anas was hesitant at first, but he summoned chunks of sapphire in the air and the chunks came crashing down at the Cruels. To their surprise, the Cruels were way weaker than what they've heard from the stories.
Turned out, the gate was a magnitude 6 gate and the academy slowly pushed back against the Cruels and a few stronger teachers used each high powered spell to weaken and finally close the gate with some difficulty and it drained their power quite a bit. After seeing their teachers fight, the three boys were amazed at what diamond ranked mages can do. In ANGEL, there are ranks to a mage with copper being the weakest and prismatic being the strongest with only five members so far.
Nex and Karasu were both exhausted and now resting on the pile of Cruels they killed.
"How many did you kill, crow?" Asked Nex.
"Definitely more than you! I was always the stronger one after all. That's another win for me! When will you ever win one of our little competitions?" Karasu gloated with a smile.
"I will beat you one day. I'm sure of it," Nex replied as he threw a light punch on Karasu.
Anas, somewhat confused, asked "how is this a magnitude 6 gate? The Cruels were way dumber than what I've heard," but the two boys were too focused on bickering with each other to hear Anas' comment.
After the incident, they along with the other injured students went to the nurse's office and got healed via magic.
"Hey, how long do you think we need to take to get to the likes of our teachers?" Karasu wondered.
"Probably until we are in our forties at the rate that we are growing in power," Anas said after doing some quick calculations.
"That's not good!" Nex exclaimed, "We have to grow stronger faster! We can't be left in the dust! Got any suggestions?" Nex asked.
