Spring slowly gave way to summer.

Our classes became busier, but our routine never changed.

Every morning, Narin waited for me near the classroom door.

Every afternoon, we walked toward the school gate together.

I laughed quietly.

His face immediately brightened.

"Good morning."

During lunch, we sat beneath the old tree as usual.

A cool breeze moved through the schoolyard.

Students were busy playing football or chatting with friends.

Narin opened his lunchbox and frowned.

"My mother packed too much again."

"She always does."

"Help me finish it."

"I brought my own lunch."

"You can still help."

Without waiting for an answer, he placed a piece of fried chicken into my lunchbox.

I looked at him.

"You've decided that on your own."

"Exactly."

I shook my head, smiling.

"You never ask."

"If I asked..."

"...you'd say no."

He wasn't wrong.

After school, dark clouds gathered above the town.

The wind grew stronger.

"It looks like it's going to rain again," I said.

Narin looked up.

"We should hurry."

We had barely reached the main road when heavy rain began to fall.

Students scattered in every direction, searching for shelter.

Narin laughed as we ran beneath the roof of a small closed shop.

"We almost made it."

"Almost."

Rain poured onto the empty street.

Neither of us had brought an umbrella.

"We're trapped," Narin said.

"For now."

He leaned against the wall beside me.

"You know..."

"What?"

"I don't mind getting caught in the rain anymore."

"Why?"

He smiled.

"Because every time it rains..."

"...I'm with you."

I looked out at the falling rain.

The memory of the day we had shared one umbrella came back to me.

I smiled.

"I remember."

"You do?"

"I remember almost everything."

His eyes softened.

"So do I."

Nearly half an hour later, the rain finally slowed.

We continued our walk home.

The road was still wet, and puddles reflected the evening sky.

As we reached the place where our paths separated, Narin looked back at me.

"Today wasn't special."

I tilted my head.

"It wasn't?"

He shook his head.

"No festival."

"No school event."

"No celebration."

"Just another ordinary day."

I nodded.

"That's true."

He smiled gently.

"But..."

"...those are becoming my favorite days."

I watched him walk away.

Then I looked up at the clearing sky.

The happiest memories weren't made on extraordinary days.
