A few weeks passed after we became a couple.

Outwardly, nothing had changed.

We still greeted each other every morning.

We still studied together.

We still shared lunch beneath the old tree.

No one at school suspected anything.

That was exactly what we wanted.

Keeping our relationship a secret wasn't always easy.

Sometimes Narin would almost say something that only couples would say.

Sometimes I'd have to quietly remind him with a look.

He would smile sheepishly and change the subject.

"You almost gave us away," I whispered one afternoon.

"I know."

"You really need to think before you speak."

He laughed.

"I stop thinking whenever I'm with you."

I shook my head.

"That's not something you should admit."

"It might be true, though."

I couldn't help smiling.

One Saturday afternoon, Narin asked if we could meet at the small park near our school.

It wasn't crowded.

Children were playing on the swings.

A few families sat beneath the trees.

To everyone else...

We were just two friends spending time together.

We walked along the stone path without saying much.

After a while, we sat on an empty bench.

"It's nice here," I said.

"It is."

Narin looked up at the sky.

"I'm glad you came."

"So am I."

For a few moments, we simply watched the clouds drift by.

Then he reached into his pocket.

"I have something for you."

He held out a simple black pen.

I looked at it and smiled.

"A pen?"

He nodded.

"It reminded me of the day we met."

I accepted it carefully.

"I'll keep it."

"Promise?"

"I promise."

The sun slowly began to set.

The sky turned shades of orange and pink.

Narin looked at me with a gentle smile.

"Can I ask you one thing?"

"What is it?"

"If life becomes difficult one day..."

"...promise me we'll talk to each other before walking away."

His voice was calm, but his eyes were serious.

I nodded.

"I promise."

He smiled with relief.

"I promise too."

For a moment, we simply sat there.

The evening breeze moved gently through the trees.

Without anyone noticing...

Narin carefully reached for my hand beside the bench.

Our fingers touched.

Then quietly intertwined.

It lasted only a few seconds.

Just enough to feel the warmth of each other's hands.

Before anyone looked our way, we let go.

Neither of us said anything.

We didn't need to.

That small moment said more than words ever could.

As we stood to leave, I slipped the pen safely into my pocket.

I didn't know it then...

But years later, after laughter had faded into memories and promises had been tested by time...

That simple pen would remain one of the most precious things I had ever been given.
