I expected that to be the end of it.

I had returned the pen.

Whatever strange moment had passed between us was over.

At least, that's what I believed.

The morning classes ended, and the lunch bell echoed through the school.

As usual, I stayed in the classroom.

The playground was too noisy for me.

I opened my lunchbox and quietly began eating while most of my classmates rushed outside.

"Phawin."

I looked up.

Narin was standing beside my desk.

"Can I sit here?"

Before I could answer, he pulled out the empty chair and sat down.

For a few seconds...

Neither of us spoke.

He looked around the classroom before turning back to me.

"You don't go outside?"

I shook my head.

"It's too noisy."

He laughed softly.

"I thought I was the only one who noticed that."

I raised an eyebrow.

"You noticed?"

"Of course."

He leaned back in his chair.

"You always sit by the window."

"You always leave as soon as the bell rings."

"You never talk unless the teacher asks you something."

"And..."

He smiled.

"...you returned my pen."

My eyes widened.

"So... you found it."

"I did."

"You should've kept it."

I looked down at my lunchbox.

"It belonged to you."

He was quiet for a moment.

Then he smiled again.

"I think you're the strangest person I've ever met."

For the first time...

I couldn't stop myself from smiling.

"And I think you're the loudest."

He laughed.

A real laugh.

The kind that made two nearby classmates turn around to see what was so funny.

That was the first real conversation we ever had.

It wasn't about love.

It wasn't about feelings.

It was just two completely different boys sharing lunch in a quiet classroom.

At the time...
