Chapter 50: Tier 3
"Tier-3 Zombies are a massive leap above Tier-2 in every way-body strength, raw power, speed. But the real problem is they actually know to protect their heads now. Way harder to kill." Yang Bin let out a sigh.
He glanced over at the others. Chen Hao, Hu Wenliang, and Little Orange were using the obstacles to pick off zombies bit by bit. No issues there for now.
Yang Bin walked to the Tier-3 Zombie's corpse and dug the crystal from its skull.
The Tier-3 Crystal was slightly larger than a Tier-2 Crystal-a touch bigger than a soybean.
Even without activating True Vision Eye, he could feel the energy thrumming inside it just from holding it in his palm.
Yang Bin wiped the crystal clean and swallowed it.
Almost immediately, a massive surge of energy flooded his body. The third corner of the first star in his mind lit up.
An even greater wave of energy fed back through him, reinforcing his body from the inside out.
It took a long time before the energy was fully absorbed.
Yang Bin clenched his fist. A grin spread across his face.
His strength had definitely surpassed eight hundred kilograms.
"Getting stronger never gets old."
He grabbed the Barbell Rod and headed toward Chen Hao's group.
"Bin-ge, you took it down!?"
Chen Hao's face lit up the moment he saw Yang Bin approaching.
"Yeah."
Yang Bin nodded. One horizontal sweep of the Barbell Rod caved in the skulls of several charging zombies at once.
"Tier 3 already? Damn impressive!" Hu Wenliang said.
"Save the admiration. Keep killing."
"Right."
The three of them spent over an hour clearing out every last zombie, then collected all the crystals.
"Bin-ge, we going after another Tier-3 next?" Chen Hao asked.
"Yeah. But the others won't be this easy."
Yang Bin thought for a moment. "Let's check behind the teaching building first. See if there's an opening."
"Got it."
The three left the Laboratory and headed toward the teaching building.
Halfway there, the ground began to tremble beneath their feet. Countless roars erupted in the distance.
All three froze. Yang Bin activated True Vision Eye and looked toward the source. His expression darkened instantly.
"What is it, Bin-ge?"
"The Cafeteria zombies are rioting. Thousands of them, stampeding this way. Find cover-now."
"Got it!"
They ducked into a nearby multimedia classroom.
"Who the hell has the balls to piss off the Cafeteria horde!?" Hu Wenliang blurted.
"Rats. A swarm of rats bigger than cats." Yang Bin smiled bitterly.
"Rats? Isn't that Little Orange's favorite thing?" Chen Hao looked at the cat beside them.
Little Orange was licking its lips, practically vibrating with eagerness.
Yang Bin rapped a knuckle on the cat's head.
"Sit. There are hundreds of them out there. You go charging in and they'll strip you to the bone. Rats these days aren't afraid of cats anymore."
"Meow!"
Little Orange let out a pitiful cry but settled down.
"Why would rats pick a fight with zombies?" Chen Hao asked, confused.
"Looks like they were trying to relocate. The second they surfaced, the horde went after them." Yang Bin shrugged.
"So Mutated Beasts and zombies are natural enemies too. Maybe that means humans aren't getting squeezed from both sides after all," Hu Wenliang said.
"Don't get your hopes up. All three sides are enemies. But right now, humans are the weakest link."
"Ugh... fair enough."
The riot lasted over ten minutes before the rats finally burrowed back underground.
Yang Bin activated True Vision Eye and scanned the Cafeteria area. His eyes lit up.
"We've got an opening."
"What kind of opening?" Chen Hao and Hu Wenliang crowded in.
"All the zombies on the teaching-building side of the Cafeteria chased after the rats. But the Tier-3 Zombie didn't follow."
"So it's isolated?"
"Not completely. A few dozen zombies are still around it."
"Then what are we waiting for? Let's take it." Chen Hao's voice was tight with excitement.
"Move. Hit fast, finish fast. Kill it and run before the rest of the horde circles back."
"Let's go."
The group sprinted toward the Cafeteria.
On the other side of the building...
Seventy to eighty people crouched inside a classroom, watching through the windows.
"Weiwei-jie, the zombies left. There's only a few dozen remaining. Do we move?"
"Move."
The woman at the front gave the order without hesitation.
Seventy to eighty people slipped out of the classroom and crept toward the remaining zombies.
Moments later, both groups arrived at the same time.
Yang Bin stared at the crowd that had materialized out of nowhere. Surprised.
They stared back at him. Equally surprised.
The few dozen zombies near the Cafeteria spotted the larger group and immediately charged toward them, ignoring Yang Bin's trio entirely.
"Prepare for battle!"
The woman leading the group-built like a bodybuilder Barbie-shouted the command, and all seventy-plus people surged forward to meet the zombies head-on.
The group was mixed, men and women, all Evolvers. Every one of them had consumed more than one crystal. Two had already become Tier-2 Evolvers.
Seventy-plus Evolvers against forty or fifty zombies. The zombies were getting pushed back steadily.
"Bin-ge, what do we do?" Chen Hao asked, anxious.
"We move too. Ignore the small fry-just kill the Tier-3."
Yang Bin was already charging.
This team was strong. They could take down the Tier-3 Zombie on their own, but it would cost them.
As fellow students, how could he stand by and watch them pay that price? He'd graciously handle the Tier-3 for them.
The Tier-3 Zombie was already locked in combat with the bodybuilder Barbie at the front.
What shocked Yang Bin was that she was matching the Tier-3 Zombie blow for blow.
"Something's off."
He activated True Vision Eye and scanned her. Understanding dawned.
"A Strength-type Ability User. That explains it."
The lesser zombies were dropping fast. The rest of her team would be free to help any second. Yang Bin didn't hesitate.
While the zombie was engaged with her, he came in from behind and brought the Barbell Rod down with everything he had.
CRACK.
The skull split open. Blood sprayed.
The bodybuilder Barbie froze mid-swing, staring.
Yang Bin used that split second to dig out the crystal and pocket it.
"You-!"
She jabbed a finger at him, fury twisting her face.
"How could you do that!"
"What? I was helping you." Yang Bin blinked, the picture of innocence.
"Who asked for your help!? Hand over that crystal!"
"I killed it. The crystal's mine. That's how it works." Yang Bin said it like it was the most obvious thing in the world.
"What happened, Weiwei-jie!?"
The rest of her team had finished mopping up and gathered around.
"He stole my crystal!" The bodybuilder Barbie pointed at Yang Bin.
The moment the words left her mouth, the entire group closed in around Yang Bin and his two companions.
