Aria wakes up and sees everything laid out on her desk. Two uniforms. Two schedules. Two sets of supplies. She reads both schedules. The weight of it hits her all at once.

There was a knock on the door. Aria turns to see her mother standing in the doorway.

Solaris stepped inside with a warm smile. "Morning Aria."

"Morning mom." Aria puts the schedule back down.

"I made your favorite. Pancakes with bacon and eggs." Solaris stated. "It's downstairs whenever your ready."

Aria nodded. "Thanks." with a slight voice crack, showing off her nervousness.

Solaris noticed it and stepped even closer, closing the distance between her and Aria. "Your nervous honey. I can see it."

The girl shrugged. "Well can you blame me? I'm a 14 year old girl with the powers of light and shadow and is going to two separate academies that hate each other."

Aria sighed as she sits on the edge of her bed, Solaris on the opposite end.

"Aria." Solaris started. "If you don't want to go-

Aria cuts her off. "No. I want to go. Its just... what if I don't belong at either school? What if Hero Academy only sees Dad's side of me... and Villain Academy only sees your side? What if no matter what I do... I'm never enough for either of them?"

Solaris smiled softly.

"Then don't try to belong to either school, Aria. Just be yourself. The right people will see you for who you are."

Aria looked down at the two uniforms lying neatly across her desk.

"I hope you're right."

"I know I am."

A small smile tugged at the corner of Aria's mouth.

Solaris stood and held out a hand. "Come on. Those pancakes aren't getting any warmer."

Aria laughed quietly.

"You really think pancakes can solve everything?"

"No," Solaris replied with a grin. "But they can make the first day of school a little easier."

Aria took her mother's hand and stood.

She glanced one last time at the white-and-gold Hero Academy uniform... then at the black-and-purple Villain Academy uniform.

Today, she wouldn't choose between them.

She picked up both.

Together, mother and daughter walked downstairs.

The first day of the school year had officially begun.
