The Sherwood Central Park was supposed to be a sanctuary. Under the sprawling oak trees, Maya, John, and Hana were enjoying a rare Saturday afternoon off. Hana was currently trying to "will" her UMA ability into a full transformation, her face turning red as she squeezed her eyes shut.
"I’m telling you, I can feel the whiskers!" Hana strained, her pigtails twitching. "If I just—"
CRASH.
The earth beneath the playground erupted. A massive, ten-foot-tall construct of cold, matte-black iron lunged from the dirt. It didn't have a face—only a single, glowing blue horizontal slit that pulsed like a heartbeat. This was Project: Harvester.
"John, look out!" Maya screamed as the robot’s heavy fist slammed into the ground where John had been standing a second before.
"Go! Get her out of here!" John yelled, his muscles bulging as he grabbed a park bench and swung it like a club against the robot’s leg. The iron didn't even dent. The Harvester let out a high-pitched sonic whine, and a wave of blue energy rippled outward.
Maya tried to summon her indigo tethers, but as the blue wave hit her, her energy hissed and died. "My power... it’s being dampened!"
Suddenly, a West Corp logistics drone descended from the sky, hovering over Maya. It carried a sleek, metallic crate marked with the Rose family crest. The lid hissed open, revealing the Neo-Cyber Armor—a masterpiece of chrome, indigo plating, and glowing filaments.
"Maya! The suit!" Hana yelled. With a sudden, desperate surge of will, Hana’s body shifted. Her clothes melted into dark fur, her limbs lengthened, and in an instant, a sleek, powerful black panther stood in her place. The panther-Hana let out a guttural roar and lunged at the robot’s sensory slit, claws sparking against the iron.
"Hana’s doing it! She transformed!" Maya’s heart raced. She looked at the armor. This is it. My debut.
She stepped into the crate. The suit didn't wait; it latched onto her limbs, the indigo plating snapping into place with hydraulic hisses. A HUD flickered to life in her vision, displaying power levels far beyond anything she had felt in the basement.
"I feel... invincible," Maya breathed. She turned toward the Harvester, her indigo energy now amplified tenfold by the suit’s resonators. She didn't wait for a plan. She didn't "anchor." She flew straight at the machine, her fists glowing with raw, unrefined power.
"I’ve got this!" she shouted, throwing a massive indigo blast.
But the Harvester was built for this. It didn't dodge. It absorbed the blast into its chest plate and redirected it. A tether of blue energy shot out, wrapping around Maya’s armored throat and slamming her into the concrete.
"Maya!" John ran forward, but the robot swiped him aside like an insect.
Maya scrambled to her feet, her HUD flashing red warnings. "Stay down, you monster!" She tried to unleash a "Final Weld" move, but the suit’s energy was too chaotic, too fast. She was fighting the armor as much as the robot.
The Harvester moved with terrifying, mechanical precision. It caught Maya’s punch, twisted her arm, and drove a knee into her chest plate. The sound of cracking metal echoed through the park.
Maya lay in the dirt, the Neo-Cyber Armor sparking and shutting down. Her "invincibility" had lasted less than a minute. Through the cracked visor, she saw the Harvester’s blue eye glowing brighter as it deployed a set of jagged extraction needles.
She had the suit. She had the training. But as she stared into the cold, mechanical face of her failure, she realized she was still just a girl playing dress-up. She had lost.
"Extraction sequence initiated," the robot’s cold voice droned.
Maya closed her eyes, the weight of the suit feeling like a coffin. I'm sorry, John. I wasn't enough.23Please respect copyright.PENANAQqofVzg1yZ
