Light streamed through the hole in Virelai’s bedroom door, marking where and how intensely her temper had gotten away from her.
The princess herself paced her bedroom floor, her dress rumbled and her eyelids dark from smudged cosmetics.
She had slept restlessly.
“What in the name of the sword of Mogshade was I thinking?!”
She growled to herself, taking her hair down from its elaborate updo.
“That is the problem! I was not thinking at all!”
She snarled, swiping the makeshift nacre blade from the night before, gripping it tightly in her fist.
“FOOL!”
She shouted, swinging at the bedpost of her canopy bed.
The post already had several dents and gashes in it from when she didn’t have the energy to continue to pierce the door.
The stone clashed against the wood with an anticlimactic thunk, small fragments of nacre falling to the floor.
Virelai flinched, a sudden sharp pain running up her arm, causing her to drop the pin.
She turned over her hand.
A long scarlet slash ran through the center of her palm.
“Lumpish gut gripping death token.”
She muttered, crimson flooding the creases of her hand.
“That is just a rune and a half, is it not?”76Please respect copyright.PENANAqLpqYr58Tt
She muttered sarcastically, the blood leaving rust-like stains on her skin as it dripped down the back of her hand.
She pulled a handkerchief out of her dress pocket, tying it around her hand, sucking in a breath as she secured it.
“Mph- For the love of Mogshade…”76Please respect copyright.PENANANQcfnA6tUe
She grunted, picking up the blade and tossing it against the wall, where it shattered in half.
She rolled back her shoulders, a small smile replacing her grimace.
“That was… pleasing.”76Please respect copyright.PENANArcAGXNo9Tt
She chuckled, walking over and examining the fragments strewn across the ground.
She straightened up, rolling back her shoulders.
She turned towards her window, leaning on the warm stone.
“He could very well be… dead.”
She sighed, wiping her sleeve across her face, smudging her makeup further.
“No… no. Leveret is foolish but not foolish enough to get himself killed… I hope.”
She reassured herself, rubbing her temples in slow circles.
“Besides, now that he is missing and I have a…”76Please respect copyright.PENANA4xr6K9ptly
She cringed.76Please respect copyright.PENANA9ASDtLXFSw
“A… husband… I am once again the heir to the throne. Leveret shall never have the crown.”
She glanced down at her hand, a liquid rose blooming in the center of her handkerchief.
“I must get better coordination. If this scars Mother will make me wear gloves and dear Mogshade, do I hate gloves.”
She grumbled.
She glanced over her shoulder as a tray of food was slid under the door.
Her eyes flicked over the tray, which contained a few slices of fruit, a small loaf of bread, a butter dish, and, most importantly, a knife.
“Mmm… punctuality. Useful, very useful.”
She purred, placing two fingers on her chin.76Please respect copyright.PENANApDssySIXDd
