Time and Tide - "An Ode to Writing"

I never knew the power of love until my

pen sliced through the crinkled paper

of my journal and something—

a new feeling—smacked me in the heart.

This was twelve years ago, when I

was still young, innocent, and unaware

of the world around me. The strangest thing

was that this sickness, called writing, made

me who I am today: a Wattpad Ambassador,

a soon-to-be-graduate in Creative Writing,

and an aspiring author who vows to publish

her first book in the next few years. With that,

I now have this ode: for something I both hate

and love at the same time. I write for love,

not for recognition, but to be rejected 1,000

times until someone finally tells me that my

rose shall grow a thousand feet more and

no longer carry thorns that break my skin.

Wounds heal, no matter how long it takes,

and make us stronger and willing to finally live

our dreams. Thank you, writing, for beating me

until I bled. But at the end of the day, you will

never overcome my passion for you and your abuse.
