The city looked normal again by morning.

That was the frightening part.

Traffic moved. Stores opened. People returned to work.

News channels called the broadcast interruption a “technical malfunction.”

No mention of the frozen streets. No mention of people collapsing. No mention of the sound.

As if the entire night had been erased.

Inside the motel room, Officer Raghav sat awake on the edge of the bed.

He hadn’t slept.

Every time he closed his eyes—

he saw flashes.

Not dreams.

Memories.

But not his own.

A woman crying in a dark hallway.

Someone whispering:

“Open the door.”

Blood spreading slowly across white tiles.

And always—

that sound.

Ding… dong.

Across the room, Subject 07 watched him silently.

“You’re resisting,” he said quietly.

Raghav looked up sharply.

“Resisting what?”

Subject 07 hesitated.

Then answered:

“The second self.”

Silence filled the room.

Raghav stood immediately.

“I’m not like you.”

The words came too fast.

Too defensive.

Subject 07 noticed.

“Neither was I.”

Raghav’s jaw tightened.

“You think everyone infected becomes a killer?”

“No.”

Subject 07 looked toward the rain-stained window.

“Killing was never the point.”

A pause.

Then softly:

“Separation was.”

🧠 Meera’s Discovery

Meanwhile, Dr. Meera sat inside the abandoned archive facility, replaying one recovered tape again and again.

A scientist appeared onscreen.

Old recording quality. Distorted audio.

But one sentence stood out clearly.

“The human mind naturally divides itself under pressure.”

“Project Ding Dong simply accelerated the process.”

Meera frowned.

Accelerated?

The tape continued.

“Most people already possess secondary behavioral structures.”

“Suppressed impulses.”

“Detached emotional fragments.”

“Alternative response states.”

Meera slowly leaned back.

The project didn’t create second identities.

It awakened unstable ones already buried inside people.

Then came the worst part.

“Once activated, the secondary state seeks emotional vacancy.”

“The emptier the subject becomes…”

Static interrupted briefly.

Then the final line:

“…the stronger the separation.”

Meera felt sick.

Because Subject 07’s emotional emptiness wasn’t a side effect.

Back at the motel—

Raghav walked into the bathroom and splashed water onto his face.

Cold.

Sharp.

Real.

He stared into the mirror.

Trying to steady himself.

Then—

for one second—

his reflection smiled.

But he hadn’t.

Raghav froze instantly.

The reflection returned to normal.

Breathing hard, he stepped backward slowly.

“No…”

A whisper came softly behind him.

“You saw it too.”

Raghav turned sharply.

Subject 07 stood at the doorway.

Watching calmly.

“What’s happening to me?” Raghav demanded.

Subject 07 answered quietly:

“You’re starting to notice the spaces.”

“The spaces?”

A pause.

Then—

“The moments where you stop feeling like one person.”

Raghav’s anger rose instantly.

“I’m not losing my mind!”

Subject 07’s expression didn’t change.

“You think losing your mind happens all at once.”

He stepped slightly closer.

“It doesn’t.”

Silence.

Heavy.

Uncomfortable.

“First come the gaps.”

“Then the distance.”

“Then one version of you starts watching the other.”

Raghav suddenly remembered something terrifying.

Last night—

during the broadcast—

for one brief second…

he enjoyed the silence.

The realization hit him hard.

Because it didn’t feel forced.

It felt relieving.

Subject 07 noticed the fear in his face immediately.

And quietly said:

“That’s how it begins.”

⚠️ The Message

Suddenly—

the motel television turned on again.

No remote. No signal.

Just static.

Then text appeared slowly across the screen:

Raghav stepped back.

“What the hell—”

The screen flickered again.

New text appeared.

CARRIERS STABILIZING

EMOTIONAL RESISTANCE DECREASING

Then finally—

one final sentence:

SUBJECT 07 SUCCESSFULLY CREATED THE CONDITIONS

Silence.

Raghav slowly turned toward Subject 07.

“You knew about this?”

Subject 07 stared at the screen.

His expression unreadable.

Then softly—

almost like regret—

he answered:

“I was never meant to survive this long.”

The television suddenly shut off.

Darkness filled the room again.

Outside—

the city continued moving normally.

But inside countless people—

small invisible fractures were spreading quietly.

Tiny emotional separations.

Tiny empty spaces.

And somewhere deep inside Raghav’s mind—

something else had started listening.

Patiently.

Silently.

Waiting for the next sound.
