The gate card hit the ground, and the field glowed red. Next, Dan grabbed Drago and yelled, “Bakugan, brawl!” throwing him forward. Drago’s ball landed on the card, and Dan added, “Bakugan, stand! Rise, Pyrus Titanium Dragonoid!”
In a second, Drago appeared. His large wings stood out behind him, and he roared. On the screen, his power level was 1,200 gs. Dan’s life gauge appeared under it.
Now it was Kit’s turn. She grabbed Tristar and threw him. “Bakugan, brawl! Bakugan, stand! Rise, Aquos Tristar!”
In a matter of seconds, a giant Aquos Bakugan stood. He looked like he had a mushroom on his head.
He spoke in a wise voice, “Let’s show them what we’re made of, Kit!”
In the audience, Marucho smiled at the sight of his old friend. His own Tristar hovered beside him, but sounded worried. “Marucho, something doesn’t feel right.”
Confused, Marucho looked at him.
On the screen, Tristar’s power level appeared. It was 1,000, 200 gs less than Drago’s.
Dan could beat them. Now, it was time for the ability cards.
The watch on Dan’s wrist glowed, and above it, an ability card appeared. “Ability activate! Dragon Spray!”
Drago opened his mouth. He shot fireballs at Tristar.
Kit was smart, though. An ability card appeared above her own watch. “Ability activate! Aquos Shield!”
Tristar opened his hands, and a blue shield appeared in them. It nullified Drago’s attack and dropped his power level to 1,000 gs.
Drago said, “She nullified my ability!”
Kit laughed, and Dan said, “Don’t be so sensitive, Drago! We’re just warming up!”
Drago nodded, and another ability card appeared above Dan’s watch. “Ability activate! Dragon Blazer!”
Drago opened his mouth, and fire, lit by lightning, appeared. He shot the attack.
Kit made an ability card appear. “Ability activate! Aquos Shield!”
Tristar created the shield and nullified Drago’s ability.
Kit beat them to the next turn. Two cards appeared over her watch. “Double ability activate! Tsunami plus Wave of Power!”
Dan gasped.
A wave of water crashed into Drago, who yelled.
“Drago, no!” Dan shouted. He dodged when Drago went sprawling into a rock. Stones flew past Dan, and he closed one eye. “Drago, get up! Stay strong!”
Drago slowly rose, but Kit was too fast.
Once he was in the air, she held out her hand. “Gate card, open!” She clenched her fists. “Black Hole!”
“Black Hole?” Drago asked, peering down at the gate card. Glowing, it revealed darkness, and gravity started to pull Dan’s Bakugan down, much like a black hole.
Drago yelled, “Oh no! Dan, I need some help!”
Dan thought fast. A card soon appeared above his watch. “Ability card activate! Dragon Breaker!”
Glowing, Drago tried to spin out of the black hole, but couldn’t. He was trapped.
Kit laughed. “Sorry, hot stuff! Ability card activate! Tsunami!”
Another tsunami slammed into Drago.
Dan was thrown back by its force. He landed on his front and yelled.
“Dan!” Drago shouted before turning back into a ball. He rolled toward Dan, and Kit caught her own Bakugan ball.
She scoffed. “Pathetic.”
In the bleachers, Runo was angry. She shouted, “How dare she do that to Dan and Drago!”
Dan rose to his knees and saw Drago’s ball. “Drago!” He rushed to him and picked him up. “You okay?”
Drago opened up in his hand. “Yes, I’m sorry.”
Dan’s life gauge dropped to 60%, and he gasped.
Kit said, “Enough of this garbage! Round 2 starts now! Gate card, set!” She threw her gate card, and the battlefield flashed blue. Next, she threw Tristar. “Bakugan, brawl! Bakugan, stand! Let’s finish them off, Aquos Tristar!”
Rising, Tristar said, “No problem, Kit!”
Dan looked down at Drago. “Ready, buddy?”
Drago nodded and turned back into a ball.
Dan wrapped his fingers around him and took a deep breath. “Bakugan, brawl!” He threw Drago forward and focused on winning. “Bakugan, stand! Rise, Pyrus Titanium Dragonoid!”
However, the strangest thing happened. Drago’s ball landed on the card, but he didn’t stand. He didn’t go any further after opening up. What was happening?
Drago asked, “What?” and tried to stand, but it didn’t work.
Dan, bewildered, said, “What? What’s happening, dude?”
Kit smirked and shut her eyes, but Dan didn’t see her smile.
Runo said, “What’s going on? Why isn’t Drago standing?”
“Something’s up,” Shun said with crossed arms.
Drago flew back to Dan in ball form, opening in his hand. He spoke in an angry voice, “What did you do, Dan? Do you want me to battle or not?”
Dan said, “No dude, I don’t know what’s going on! Let’s give it another go! Bakugan, brawl! Bakugan, stand! Rise, Pyrus Titanium Dragonoid!”
Once again, when Drago opened on the card, he didn’t stand.
Dan gasped again.
On the other end of the battlefield, Kit waved her hand. “I’m waiting over here! I don’t have all day!”
Dan glanced at her. “Quiet while I sort this out! I’m sorry, Drago.” He called Drago back, and he hovered beside him. Dan reached into his pocket. “Well, at least I have backup.” With that, he drew Mantris’s ball. “Bakugan, brawl! Bakugan, stand! Rise, Pyrus Mantris!”
Unlike Drago, Mantris stood. Soon on the card was an enormous praying mantis. He roared.
Exhausted, Dan took deep breaths, but stayed strong.
Kit made the first move, an ability card appearing. “Ability card activate! Rainbus Beam!”
Rainbus Beam? What the heck was that?
Dan’s eyes widened when a rainbow light appeared in Tristar’s mouth. He shot it toward Mantris.
An ability card appeared above Dan’s watch. “Ability activate! Bug Block!”
Mantris picked up his front legs and blocked the ability, two cards appearing above Dan’s watch. “Double ability, activate! Bug Tornado plus Bug Spin!”
Mantris created a tornado of bugs that collided with Tristar, turning him back into a ball.
Kit smiled as he landed at her feet.
Dan said, “Why are you smiling?” catching Mantris’s ball. “You just lost.”
It was true. Kit’s life gauge dropped to 0%, but she said, “No, Dan,” and turned to walk away, “you just lost.”
The announcer announced, “The winners are Dan and Drago from the Battle Brawlers, who are still undefeated!”
Everyone in the bleachers cheered, even Runo and Marucho. “You rock, Dan!”
Shun still looked serious, though.
On the field, Dan didn’t stay on his feet for long before fainting from exhaustion and fell onto his front. Mantris’s ball slipped from his grip and rolled.
The audience gasped, as did Drago. “Dan!”
Shun, Marucho, and Runo jumped up and ran toward their unconscious friend, Marucho shouting, “Daniel!”
When Dan woke, he was lying on his bed in his bedroom at home, and a beautiful sunset was visible outside. He opened his eyes to see Runo, Shun, Marucho, Drago, and his mom standing over him with worried expressions.
Drago said, “Dan, you’re awake!”
“Huh?” Dan quickly sat. “What happened? Where am I?”
His mother chuckled. “At home. Your friends brought you here and told me what happened during your brawl with Kit.”
“Yeah,” Drago said, hovering before Dan. His voice was angry. “And why didn’t you want me to battle?”
Dan gasped, remembering what happened, and glared. “I wanted you to battle, but something happened. Don’t blame me!”
Drago seemed to glare. “Who else do I have to blame? You’re a conceited boy who makes an untrustworthy partner!”
Runo held her hands out. “Stop it, Drago! Give him a break!”
The damage was done, though, and Dan yelled at Drago, “Who are you calling conceited? Forget it, Drago!” Pulling the covers over his head, he disappeared, and Drago turned away.
Dan’s friends left, but his mother stayed with him.
In the hallway, Marucho said, “If we can find out what happened, then that will bring Dan and Drago back together.”
Tristar said as he hovered beside Marucho, “What is Rainbus, though?”
Shun opened his eyes after having them closed for a long time. “A Bakugan,” he soon said. “From my perspective, a dangerous Bakugan.”
