Si-woo was still processing Byeol-ha's answer when the metallic sound of high heels echoed on the marble. The silence, which had been comfortable just seconds ago, was shattered.
"Byeol-ha! Didn't I tell you to stay hidden in the car?" Ji-yoon’s voice was a whip of irritation.
She emerged from the shadows, wearing a vibrant red dress and a smile that died instantly when she saw who was standing there. Her eyes widened.
"Director Kang Si-woo?" Ji-yoon’s voice shifted from aggressive to honeyed in a split second. "Oh my God, please forgive me! I didn't know you were here. My sister... she has 'problems.' She shouldn't be bothering someone so important."
Si-woo didn't look away from Byeol-ha, who had now hunched her shoulders, her hands covering her ears to muffle her sister's shrill voice. The CEO felt a cold irritation rise up his spine. He hated noise, but he hated phoniness even more.
"She wasn't bothering me," Si-woo said, his voice sounding like a blade. "We were discussing astronomy. Something that, apparently, requires more intelligence than ballroom gossip."
Ji-yoon turned pale, her face trembling between shame and rage. She shot a look of pure contempt at her younger sister.
"Let’s go, Byeol-ha. Now!" Ji-yoon hissed, grabbing the girl’s arm tightly.
Byeol-ha let out a low sound of pain, a small whimper that made Si-woo’s icy heart give a strange jolt. Before he could react, a figure brushed past him. It was Do-hyun, the eldest brother, who pushed Ji-yoon’s hand away with a firm movement.
"Get your hands off her, Ji-yoon," Do-hyun growled, stepping in as a shield in front of Byeol-ha.
