When working with CAD designs, everything can look perfect on screen. The model is clean, dimensions are accurate, and the design appears ready for production. However, real-world results often tell a different story.
Some common challenges I’ve observed:
- Print orientation and support strategy
- Material behavior during manufacturing
- Design vs real-world manufacturability
Many designs that look ideal in CAD fail during actual production. Factors like layer direction, tolerances, and material response can significantly affect the final output.
I’ve worked on areas such as:
- CAD modeling
- Engineering drawings
- Product optimization
- Preparing designs for 3D printing
- GD&T considerations
From my experience, considering manufacturing constraints early in the design phase helps avoid many of these issues. It improves efficiency and reduces unnecessary iterations.
Curious to know — what challenges have you faced when moving from CAD design to real production?
