Minh San Duong, nicknamed Minnie, a Vietnamese American girl in high school, thinks she's rebelling against her rigid family by dyeing electric blue and neon pink streaks in her dark hair, listening to loud music, and wanting a career away from her father's glass-blowing shop. At least she still has the decency to go to school each day, unlike Li Huang, nicknamed Leon, whom she becomes responsible for getting him to attend class again. What she doesn't realize is she's going to get dragged headfirst into a gang turf war and a murder mystery while struggling to control her increasing feelings for Leon. But as their relationship grows and hiding it soon becomes impossible, is Minnie willing to open her heart to someone who may lead her down a path fraught with danger?
