002. fuck you, monday
Their first day of senior year was supposed to go off with a bang. New outfits, hairstyles, and fresh shoes.
However, things did not go according to plan.
"I swear to god, if a teacher trips today... I might crash out," Naomi grumbles while clutching the plastic cup holding her iced coffee. She didn't plan on getting that trashed, but leave it to Ashanti to get everyone liquored up.
Here she is now in her oversized hoodie with the hood pulled down as far as she can to avoid the light. "I blame this on you," she side-eyes Ashanti.
"Shh," Ashanti gently places her manicured finger against Naomi's lips. "If any of you speak above a whisper right now, I might vomit or fight you."
Dominic yawns loudly before scoffing at the dark-skinned girl's behaviour. "Your hangover is your fault. Don't take it out on me. We're seniors. Y'all should know not to be drinking like that, especially on a Sunday."
Ashanti slowly rolls her head to look at the tall male, "Not even gonna lie... you can shut that shit up right now."
Dominic slightly pushes her forehead before Ashanti has a chance to shove his large hand away. "Cus you know I'm right. Jay's dumbass over here literally fell off the porch."
Jay immediately groans, rolling his silver lip piercing into his mouth momentarily. "Just 'cus Kelly here is agitated, I'm catching strays?" He rests his tired body on the metal, apple red lockers as he catches Ashanti's unamused, piercing stare. "Besides, let's not bring up the past."
"Dude," Naomi pipes up after sipping her coffee. "You literally posted it on your story."
Jay sassily rolls his eyes, "I bet the story expired now, that shit is temporary. You remembering too hard."
"Temporary or not, you still posted it," Clover jumps into the conversation after shutting her locker. "That's embarrassing."
Jay dramatically gasps, but his rebuttal is cut off as Reis finally arrives at their spot. Everyone greets him monotonously, with brief hugs and handshakes.
"Anyways," Jay drags the word as he stretches his arms high in the air. "We should skip today. I feel like learning absolutely nothing."
"So like every other day you've been in school?" Ashanti tilts her head, silently challenging her annoying friend.
Jay raises his hand to her face before continuing, "I might deadass try to fake pass out if they try and make us do group work on the first day."
"You say that now. Wait till we get that first quiz in calc," Naomi grins as she tosses her empty plastic cup into a nearby garbage bin. "Let's get to class, try and have some record of attendance this year, Jay."
He kisses his teeth as he ruffles his lower, cherry-red, wavy strands.
The group slowly roams the busy halls, new students attempting to find their classes, and the returning teens leisurely approach their first class. Familiar teachers wave to the group, others barking, ordering them to find their classrooms. The six can't be bothered as they already memorized their schedules, figuring out which ones they shared. A few are lucky to share certain classes. Unfortunately, lunch is the only period of time they'll all be together.
As they pass another row of lockers, Naomi's steps falter as her attention drifts to a nearby scene. Down the hall, she sees a group of the classic bullying type shoving someone against the lockers.
Naomi squints her eyes to see if she can recognise the guy. He's fairly tall and has long, ruffled jet-black hair, which she assumes the group of guys messed with. His fair skin appears tinted with a light shade of ruby. She can't make out his face from this distance, but she's sure they've never interacted.
"Yo, Naomi, you good?" Jay walks to her side with a concerned face.
"Yeah, I'm good... but, who's that?" She inquires, still watching the scene.
Clover glances from her phone to the guy pinned against the lockers. "I'm pretty sure I saw him at orientation; he's new."
"Oh, shit! You're right!" Jay exclaims, "He was there. He's a lil' weird though, just kinda stands there. I don't think I saw him talking to anyone at the open house."
"They're doing the most middle school shit, they just kicked his stuff down the hall," Naomi's face slowly scrunches up. The antagonizing group finally eases up on the new student. Her eyes follow his every step as he unhurriedly grabs his belongings and walks away as if nothing occurred.
"He doesn't even look mad; he probably likes it rough," Jay teases, gesturing to his calm demeanor.
Naomi pops Jay on his forearm as he passes their group by. "Y'all," Dominic's voice suddenly rings. "C'mon, bell's gonna ring in a minute."
They continue walking, Dominic disappearing first as his class is the first at the end of the hall.
Jay squints at the mumbling Ashanti, suppressing his laughter at her stumbling steps. He swats Reis on the shoulder before gesturing forward with a nod at Ashanti, "Ten bucks she doesn't make it to third period."
"Bet," Reis chuckles before entering his classroom. The four continue further, and the new kid oddly continues to trail in front of them.
Naomi hugs Ashanti, quickly kissing the girl's forehead, hoping she feels better. Clover gently squeezes her as a goodbye, and Ashanti flips Jay off before entering her classroom.
Naomi, Jay, and Clover reach their first class, which they all share, coincidentally. Jay approaches first, with Clover shoving him inside since he's blocking the doorway. Naomi steps in, her eyes scanning the people she shares this class with.
Naomi gasps inwardly. The new guy is here, too.
