A month had passed since the Azure Aegis reclaimed their rank, and the Spire had become their sanctuary. They moved through the lower floors with a grace that bordered on the supernatural, their coordination so tight they barely needed to speak. But the peace was shattered when an emergency courier arrived at the Guild Hall, gasping for air.
The Royal Emergency
The Guild Master’s office was tense. A map of the Spire was sprawled across the table, marking the dangerous terrain of Floor 27: The Thunder-Glass Canyons.
"It’s a disaster," the Guild Master explained, pointing to the jagged lines of the map. "Prince Alaric’s expedition was supposed to be a simple diplomatic survey of the upper mineral veins. But a tectonic shift has sealed the exits. They’re trapped in the 'Static Basin,' and the reports say they're being hunted by high-level Storm-Wraiths."
He looked at Clara and Seraphina. "The King wants his son back, but most Steel-Rank parties are out on long-term raids. You two are the only ones close enough and strong enough to break through those canyons."
The Preparation
Seraphina didn't hesitate. She tightened the straps of her silver-steel gauntlets, her eyes narrowing. "The Thunder-Glass Canyons are a nightmare for magic users. The air is charged with static."
Clara nodded, her expression serious. She had spent the last month perfecting her Sanctuary Tide, and she knew how to ground her water magic so it wouldn't backfire in a storm. "We’ll need copper-core ropes and insulated boots. If we’re going into a lightning field, we need to be the ground, not the conduit."
They didn't ask about the reward. They didn't ask about the fame. They simply gathered their gear and headed for the Spire's entrance, the crowds parting for them as word spread: the Azure Aegis was going to save the Prince.
The Descent
The climb to Floor 27 was a blur of steel and water. They bypassed the lower floors with a speed that left other adventurers in the dust. As they crossed the threshold into the 27th Floor, the atmosphere changed.
The air smelled of ozone and scorched earth. The "canyons" were made of jagged, translucent glass that vibrated with stored electrical energy. Every few minutes, a bolt of "Dungeon Lightning" would arc between the cliffs, turning the world into a blinding white flash.
"Do you hear that?" Clara shouted over the hum of the static.
From deep within the glass basin, the sound of steel clashing against spectral energy echoed. It was the sound of a losing battle.
"That's them," Seraphina said, drawing her claymore. The blade caught the ambient sparks, humming with a blue light. "Clara, prepare the grounding veil. We’re going in hot."
They leaped from the glass ledge, descending into the heart of the storm. They weren't just adventurers anymore; they were a rescue team, and the "Azure Aegis" was about to show Floor 27 why they were the most feared duo in Oakhaven.
