The morning sun didn't reach the depths of Floor 14, but the internal clock of the dungeon signaled a new day. Marek Packwood stepped out of his chambers, yawning and stretching, his scarred face twisted into a smug look of absolute ownership.
He looked at the center of the room. There they were: his two "assets," kneeling perfectly still, eyes rolled back, waiting for his first command.
"Good morning, pets," Marek drawled, walking toward them. "I think today, we’ll head back to the surface. I want to see the looks on the Guild’s faces when their 'heroes' walk in behind me like well-behaved hounds."
He stopped directly in front of Clara, reaching down to tilt her chin up. "Ready for your morning mantra, little mouse?"
The Trap is Sprung
"I have a better one for you," a voice whispered.
It wasn't the hollow drone of a slave. It was the sharp, freezing edge of a blizzard.
Clara’s eyes snapped down. They weren't white; they were a burning, luminous blue, overflowing with ten years of repressed fury. Before Marek could even blink, Clara’s hand shot up, her fingers formed into a claw.
"Hydro-Forge: Piercing Blindness!"
A high-pressure jet of water, thinner than a needle and faster than a crossbow bolt, erupted from her palm. It didn't hit his chest or his heart. It struck him directly across the bridge of his nose, slicing through his eyelids and lancing into his glowing green pupils.
"MY EYES!" Marek screamed, clutching his face as the emerald light was extinguished in a spray of red and water. "I CAN'T SEE! I CAN'T SEE!"
The Knight’s Judgment
Marek stumbled back, his hands bursting into wild, uncontrolled flames as he tried to burn anything near him. But the fire didn't stand a chance.
"The Shield is back, Marek," Seraphina roared.
She had already lunged for the corner of the room where their gear was piled. In one fluid motion, she donned her Silver-Steel gauntlet and grabbed the hilt of her claymore. She didn't use the edge; she swung the heavy flat of the blade, slamming it into Marek’s ribs with the force of a falling mountain.
CRACK.
Marek was sent flying across the room, crashing into his table of stolen gold. The million-gold treasure spilled over his broken body, a shower of wealth he would never be able to see again.
Clara stood over him, her Crystal Staff humming. She raised it high, and the ambient moisture in the room condensed into heavy, liquid chains that wrapped around Marek’s throat, wrists, and ankles, pinning him to the floor.
"You used the fire to hide," Clara said, her voice steady and cold. "But the water always finds the cracks."
The Hand-Over
They didn't kill him. Death was too quick for a man who had stolen the souls of others.
Seraphina used a scrap of his own red silk to blindfold his ruined eyes, ensuring he could never attempt a hypnotic gaze again. They marched him up through the floors, two "Iron-Rank" warriors leading a broken, sobbing criminal in chains.
When they emerged from the Spire and entered the Oakhaven Guild Hall, the silence was deafening. Every adventurer turned to look. The "Azure Aegis," battered and scarred but standing taller than ever, dragged the most wanted man in the kingdom to the feet of the Guild Master.
"Marek Packwood," Seraphina announced, her voice echoing off the rafters. "Captured. Blinded. And ready for the King’s Justice."
Clara looked at the crowd, and for the first time in weeks, she smiled. It wasn't the "Happy-go-lucky" mask. It was the smile of a woman who had finally put out the fire in her own heart.
The New Rank
The Guild Master stepped forward, looking at the broken villain and then at the two girls. He reached into his pocket and pulled out two new badges. They weren't Iron. They were Steel—Rank B.
"You've done more than climb a tower," the Master said. "You've survived the darkness."
Clara took her new badge, the polished steel reflecting the sunlight. She looked at Seraphina, who gave her a rare, genuine wink.
"Ready for Floor 16, partner?" Seraphina asked.
Clara gripped her staff, her eyes turning back to the Spire. "Let's go. We've got a world to see."
