The silence in the alleyway was heavy. Aqua pulled his hand back from Akane’s chest, the warmth of her heartbeat still tingling in his palm. He stood up, smoothing his blazer, his "Golden Boy" mask snapping back into place with terrifying speed.
"You don't know what you're talking about," Aqua said, his voice cold and flat.
"I'm a scholarship student at the most prestigious school in the country, Aqua. I don't get here by being lucky," Akane said, adjusting her cracked glasses. "I get here by observing. I saw your eyes when you looked at Ruby. It wasn't heroics. It was hatred. And when you saw Stallone on that screen... your pupils dilated, your cortisol spiked, and you fled. You aren't his rival’s son. You’re his victim."
Aqua stared at her. For the first time in fifteen years, he felt exposed. "And why would a 'genius' like you risk everything for a stranger’s revenge?"
Akane looked at her bruised knees, then back at him. "Because the Williams family has been stepping on people like me for decades. My mother was a set designer for your mother’s final film, Aqua. When Amy Smith died, the production was shut down, and the 'fixers' made sure no one spoke. My family lost everything. I’m not just a genius. I’m a witness."
The air between them changed. They weren't just two students anymore; they were the ghosts of Stallone's collateral damage.
The War Room
That night, instead of returning to the Johnson estate, Aqua took Akane to a private study he kept in the city—a high-tech apartment paid for by Joe Johnson that served as his base of operations.
The walls were covered in digital screens. Financial tickers, family trees, and satellite images of Stallone’s various estates.
"My plan is divided into three phases," Aqua explained, pointing to the center screen.
Phase One: Social Isolation. I strip Ruby of her power. She is Stallone’s pride. If she becomes a social pariah, it tarnishes the 'Williams' brand.
Phase Two: Financial Hemorrhage. Joe and I have planted 'Trojan' investments in Stallone’s offshore accounts. We wait for the right moment to trigger the collapse.
Phase Three: The Criminal Link. I need the evidence that Stallone ordered the hit on my mother. Joe’s lawyers haven't been able to find the paper trail for fifteen years.
Akane walked up to the screens, her eyes darting across the data with a speed that made Aqua’s head spin. She began rearranging the tabs.
"You’re thinking like a businessman, Aqua. You’re trying to find a paper trail that doesn't exist," Akane said. "Men like Stallone don't sign checks for murders. They use favors. Look at the logistics—the security company he uses, the drivers, the housekeepers."
She tapped a file on a security firm called Vanguard Shield. "This company handles all of Stallone’s private security. They also happened to 'lose' their CCTV footage from the night your mother died. I can get into their server. But I need a distraction."
The First Strike
"The Homecoming Dance," Aqua said, a dark glint in his eyes. "It’s in two weeks. Ruby expects to be crowned Queen. The entire school board and several of Stallone’s business associates will be there."
"If we humiliate her there..." Akane started.
"...Stallone will have to show up to handle the PR," Aqua finished. "While he’s busy playing the 'protective father' in front of the cameras, his private office will be unguarded. That’s when we strike his personal server."
Akane looked at him, a small, determined smile tugging at the corner of her mouth. "You're going to use me as the bait, aren't you?"
"No," Aqua said, stepping closer. "I’m going to use you as the Queen. I’m going to make you the most popular girl in this school, Akane. We aren't just going to ruin Ruby’s night. We’re going to steal her throne."
The Mask Slips
As Akane prepared to leave, she paused at the door. "Aqua? Why did you save me at the fountain today? You could have just watched."
Aqua looked at the letter from his mother, framed and hidden behind a trick panel on the wall.
"Because," Aqua said softly, "the only way to beat a monster is to protect the things he tries to destroy. It’s the one thing he doesn't know how to counter."
As the door closed, Aqua sat in the dark. He was no longer alone in his 15-year war. But as he looked at the photo of Akane he had just added to his digital board, a cold shiver ran down his spine.
He was bringing her into the line of fire. And in the world of Stallone Williams, the people closest to the truth were always the first to disappear.
