The Capital didn't fall; it shattered.
The Grey stood atop the Spire, his hands raised like a conductor. Below him, the streets were a war zone. He hadn't just brought kinetic force; he had liberated the city’s most dangerous criminals, fueling them with his own siphoned energy.
"The old world died with Jackson!" The Grey’s voice boomed. "I am the only truth left!"
He swung his hand down, and a wave of compressed force leveled a city block. Civilians were being used as human shields by the rioters. In the center of the square, the spot where Atlas had been executed was now a charred crater.
Then, a lime-green light cut the darkness.
The Four Who Remained
"Atlas died to protect this city," Mini Mic landed on a scorched bus, her suit’s neon circuitry burning at maximum capacity. "We’re here to finish what he started."
Beside her, a matte-black shadow dropped from the sky. Bunny—the "Bat-Rabbit"—unfolded her wings, her blue energy-line eyes locked on the Spire. From the shadows, Slash emerged, his twin blades humming. High above, Tech Girl’s drone swarm formed a protective canopy.
The fight was a masterpiece of coordination:
Tech Girl blinded the criminals with static.
Bunny moved with predatory grace, dismantling the armored thugs.
Mini Mic faced a crowd of hostages. Instead of attacking, she channeled every ounce of her power into a Sonic Sanctuary—taking the hits so the people wouldn't have to.
The Lowest Point
But then, The Grey descended.
He landed in front of Mini Mic, whose "Sanctuary" was failing. He swiped his hand, and the kinetic backlash shattered Bunny’s wings, sending her crashing into the rubble.
He stood over them, the undisputed king of the ruins. "You’re fighting for a ghost," he sneered, looking at the spot where Atlas died. "He couldn't save himself. How can he save you?"
He unleashed a blast meant to vaporize the remaining heroes. Slash threw himself into the path. The impact broke Slash’s ribs, his mask shattering to reveal his bloody, defiant face.
The Final Exchange: Vengeance and Justice
"We aren't fighting for a ghost," Slash rasped, coughing up blood. He looked at the empty space where Atlas used to stand, then back at his team. "We’re fighting for the people he left behind."
Slash lunged. He didn't use his blades. He used his essence. He wrapped his shadows around The Grey, binding their kinetic signatures together in a suicide lock.
"Mei! Do it now!" Slash screamed.
Tech Girl, crying in her lab, hit the final command: the Kinetic Inverse. All the energy The Grey had stolen was forced back into his body at once.
The Silence
The explosion was a white-out. Slash didn't let go. He held The Grey in a death-grip, his shadows swallowing the light of the blast so the others wouldn't be caught in the radius.
When the dust settled, the Spire was gone.
In the center of the crater, two figures lay still. Darius King and Tom Holmes. The boy who hated the world, and the boy who died to save it.
Mini Mic and Bunny dragged themselves to the edge of the crater. The "Hero's Legacy" was now just them. They had won, but the price was two lives: the Titan they lost yesterday (Atlas), and the Shadow they lost today (Slash).
