The Dorm Room
The walls of Victoria's college dorm were covered in photos: her and Daniella at the beach, the V-Team at a diner, and a blurry shot of her, Laura, and Austin laughing. On her desk, next to a stack of Engineering textbooks, sat the Cyber Watch.
It looked like a piece of vintage jewelry-elegant, but cracked. The tiny shard inside pulsed with a soft, steady violet light. It wasn't enough to power a full suit of armor for a war, but it was enough to manifest a protective shield or a light-blade if she ever found herself in a corner.
She was "Retired," but she was never truly defenseless.
The Skyline of Sherwood
Across the city, a new streak of light cut through the clouds. It was faster and more erratic than Victoria's flight path, leaving a trail of shimmering blue sparks.
Laura Dawson banked hard over the West Corp tower, her new armor catching the moonlight. Below her, on a rooftop, Austin was perched with a high-gain antenna and a state-of-the-art tablet, his voice a constant stream of tactical data in her ear.
"Laura, UMA activity detected near the docks. Level 2 threat," Austin reported.
"Copy that, Tech-Guy," Laura replied, her voice brimming with the same fire Victoria once had. "Tell the V-Team I'm on it. I'll be back before curfew."
