At first, finding the bottom of the Science and Containment Centre was difficult, because we had no idea how to get there. I relied on wall signage to navigate the facility and just followed the arrows pointing downwards. Since the warden was busy and we couldn't find him anywhere, the others had the same approach as I.
As it turned out, the building has multiple separated floors, being taller instead of wider. The top level was the area in which our guest room is located. Beneath it are the laboratories, the first cell block (in which Roby was incarcerated) and the second cell block, which we haven't visited yet.
Along the way, we passed by Roby's cell.
- Why are you in such a rush? - Roby tried to accost us, but we didn't respond. He can't know what we're up to and besides that, we don't want to tell him.
- There it is! Cell block 2! - I found yet another downwards arrow near a staircase and we made our way down.18Please respect copyright.PENANAz1FxfQI0OJ
The second cell block had a similar structure to the one above. Dark walls, tiny cells, metal bars and security cameras everywhere. We did catch the attention of some prisoners, but unlike Roby, none of them wanted to talk.
- We shouldn't be this loud. The guards don't know what we're up to and may suspect us - Amber whispered to us.
We agreed with her and now we made sure to be a lot more stealthy. The cameras we're still observing us, but seemed like the warden, if he's currently watching us, doesn't mind our actions. With this, we easily reached a lift.
- This should help us get further down - Einstein suspected.
His suspicions were quickly confirmed as there was one more floor beneath the second cell block. Our caretaker pressed the button and we started descending.18Please respect copyright.PENANA1EpZ8BG2FM
The lowest floor was split into three sectors: electrical, storage and the dry dock. That last one puzzled me for a bit, but it turned out to be a dock for experimental submarines that will be sent into Europa's subsurface ocean in the future. This place is the perfect gateway to said ocean, since it's deep underground.
- Which sector would the note's author hide in? - Claudius pondered aloud.
- There's a lot of people in the dry dock, so I doubt they'd be there, assuming that they want to be secretive - Anthony informed us.
- How do you know that? - I asked.
- I checked in the meantime - he responded.
- Let's check the storage. If it's what I think it is, there's a lot of good hiding spots in there - Sebastian proposed. Unsure of the mysterious author's whereabouts, we decided to start there.
The storage was, in fact, what Sebastian expected: a load of crates, among other things, mostly those that couldn't be stuffed into crates. For example, we passed by a large turbine that was probably made to be attatched onto a submarine.
- I say we split up to search faster. We need to check every crevice - Sebastian suggested, looking around the storage area.
- Okay, let's split our group in two: Chris, Sebastian and Dawn, you're coming with me in team A. Amber, Arika and Claudius shall go with Anthony and Justine, who will lead team B - Einstein ordered us and we quickly fulfilled his request.
- May I come along with you? I feel better when I know my son is safe - Justine approached Einstein.
- I guarantee that Chris will be safe, but if it makes you calmer, you can come along - Einstein agreed.
- Take care! - Anthony and his team left us. We made our way deeper into the storage sector.
I checked the smaller crates, while Sebastian and Dawn inspected the larger ones. Justine was always near me, just to make sure I'm not in danger. She was in charge of examining the non-crate objects, such as the turbine. Still, despite our efforts, we found nothing.
- Team B isn't faring any better - Einstien contacted Anthony and informed us about his group's status.
- There's a locked door here - Dawn found a metal door with a scanner next to it.
- Too obvious - Sebastian replied.
- Maybe that's the point? You don't expect to find your enemy hiding in plain sight, so it's actually better for them to be there instead of the best spot, which is most likely to be checked first - I commented.
- I agree, let's see what's hidden behind this door - Dawn nodded.18Please respect copyright.PENANAAyneKamxxK
Einstein scrutinized the door and found out that a keycard is needed to open it. Only the guards and the warden have such. There weren't any guards nearby and the warden was obviously busy, so we resorted to team B.
- We may have a decent spot, but it requires a guardian's keycard to open. Can you get one for us? - Einstein called my dad again.
- Sure thing, give us some time - Anthony had us covered. Einstein hung up to let him work.18Please respect copyright.PENANAnwsgNI3Upx
- I wonder how they'll get one - Dawn said.
- I don't know, steal it? - Sebastian tried to guess.18Please respect copyright.PENANAM8AKy9BeEL
- That's illegal and would get us in trouble, right? - I disagreed.
- Uh... yes? - Sebastian responded.
- They can't blow our cover, so passively calling a guard over is out of the question - Dawn remarked.
- We'll find out soon - Einstein told us.
As if he waved a magic wand, team B appeared out of the blue. Anthony triumphantly brought a keycard.
- How did you get that? - Dawn was eager to find out and so were we.
- Stole it while no one was watching - Amber informed us.
- Won't that get us in trouble? - I expressed my concerns.
- Nah, the dude's asleep. We'll bring it back before he wakes up - Claudius added.
While we were talking, Anthony scanned the keycard. With a subtle clank, the door slid open.
Behind the sliding door was a very strange room. It was pretty small, but bigger than our guest room. The walls were covered in photos pinned onto a board and connected by strings of various colours. The front wall however, was entirely obstructed by seven monitors, all of which were showing footage from the security cameras we passed by. Beneath them was a wooden desk with a keyboard and an empty cup of coffee.
There was also a black rotating chair with someone sitting in it, observing the screens. They noticed us as soon as we entered the room and rotated the chair to face us.
It was a woman with an athletic figure, dressed in a black jumpsuit similar to Arika's, but larger. She also wore a utility belt. Her eyes her blue and she had black hair tied into a braid resembling a scorpion tail. I wonder how she made that!
- Amanda? - Anthony knew her.
- Don't call me that! - the woman spoke up - I'm Agent Nebula.
