Several days after the visit to St. Mungo’s Hospital for Magical Maladies and Injuries, the carriage carrying Mira Silverthorne rolled slowly along the winding path toward Malfoy Manor.
Morning fog hung low over the Wiltshire countryside.
The manor emerged gradually through the mist—tall black iron gates, pale stone walls, and towering hedges trimmed into perfect geometric shapes.
Everything about the estate spoke of old magic.
Old wealth.
Old influence.
Inside the carriage, Mira sat quietly with a small velvet case resting on her lap.
Across from her sat Draco Malfoy, who had been watching her for the past ten minutes.
“You’re nervous.” Draco stated.
“I’m not.” Mira denied.
“You’re holding that box like it might explode.” Draco retorted.
Mira loosened her grip slightly, “I just want the demonstration to go well.”
Draco leaned back, “It will.” He tilted his head toward the manor, “My father likes clever inventions.”
The carriage rolled to a smooth stop.
Outside waited Lucius Malfoy, dressed in elegant dark robes, his silver-topped cane resting lightly against the stone steps.
Beside him stood a tall wizard with broad shoulders and dark robes lined in crimson, Theodric Rowlehart.
Draco leaned forward slightly, “That’s Rowlehart.”
Mira nodded.
Rowlehart was one of the more influential members of the Wizengamot.
A man whose support—or rejection—could determine whether an invention reshaped wizarding society or vanished into obscurity. Luckily, he became Mira's ally after returning his father's missing heirloom, the Rowlehart signet ring. Theodric had support her when the Moonstone Rings, Lunar Haven and Sunstone Rings were distributed along with the established the Magical Blood Banks.
The carriage door opened.
Lucius offered a graceful nod, “Miss Silverthorne.”
Mira stepped out, “Lord Malfoy.”
Lucius’s pale eyes flicked briefly to the velvet case in her hands, “I understand you have something interesting to show us.”
Mira nodded, “Yes.”
Rowlehart smiled thoughtfully, “Draco tells us it’s something rather unusual.”
Draco shrugged slightly, “Unusual is Mira’s specialty.”
Inside the manor, the drawing room was quiet and spacious.
Tall windows allowed pale daylight to spill across marble floors.
Ancient tapestries lined the walls.
Several chairs had been arranged around a low table.
Lucius gestured gracefully, “Please, sit.”
Mira remained standing, “I think it would be easier if I demonstrated first.”
Rowlehart chuckled lightly, “Straight to the point. I like that.”
Mira carefully placed the velvet case on the table.
When she opened it—
A faint golden glow filled the room.
Inside rested a small sphere with delicate wings.
It looked exactly like a Golden Snitch used in Quidditch.
But closer inspection revealed faint light blue runes etched across its surface.
Lucius leaned forward slightly, “…Interesting.”
Rowlehart studied it with curiosity, “A modified Snitch?”
Mira shook her head, “It’s not a Snitch.” She gently lifted it from the case, “This is the Snitch Camera.”70Please respect copyright.PENANAy6ozyvWMgx
Lucius steepled his fingers thoughtfully, “A camera?”
“Yes.” Mira held the device in her palm, “It is an enchanted flying recording device capable of capturing still images and moving images.”
Rowlehart blinked, “Video?”
“Yes.” Mira confirmed.
Draco smirked slightly, “She also made it fly.”
Lucius’s eyes flickered with interest, “And the runes?”
“Stability charms. Flight control. Magical lens focusing.” Mira listed.
Rowlehart leaned forward, “And the second Snitch Draco mentioned?”
Mira reached into her satchel and removed another golden sphere with wings and a faint crystalline surface shimmered across its center.
“This is the receiving Snitch.”
Lucius nodded slowly, “So the two are linked.”
“Yes.” Mira continued calmly, “The flying Snitch records everything it sees and hears. The receiving Snitch projects those recordings in real time.”
Rowlehart raised an eyebrow, “In real time?”
“Yes.” Mira held up the first Snitch, “Allow me to demonstrate.”70Please respect copyright.PENANAzcVGRCaTEe
She released the tiny device.
Its wings unfolded instantly.
With a soft metallic flutter—
The Snitch lifted into the air.
It hovered briefly above the table.
Lucius watched closely, “…Remarkably stable.”
Then the Snitch shot toward the ceiling.
It circled the room once.
Then slowed.
Meanwhile, the receiving Snitch's wings unfolded instantly in Mira's hand.
With a soft metallic flutter—
The Snitch lifted into the air and began to glow as it hovered in front of Mira.
The crystal surface shimmered.
Suddenly—
A small holographic projection appeared above it.
The projection showed the drawing room.
From the Snitch’s perspective.
Rowlehart leaned forward immediately, “…Merlin’s beard.”
The image moved smoothly as the Snitch glided through the air.
Lucius stood slowly. His expression had become intensely focused, “This is what the Snitch sees?”
“Yes.”
“And the image appears instantly?”
“Yes.”
Draco smirked, “Told you it was impressive.”
Mira guided the Snitch toward the tall windows.
It flew gracefully outside.
Above the gardens.
The projection changed instantly.
Now the holographic image displayed the manor grounds from the sky.
Green hedges.
White fountains.
The long carriage path winding through the estate.
Rowlehart stood beside Mira to watch, “…It’s like flying.”
Lucius nodded quietly, “Or observing from afar.”
The Snitch climbed higher.
The projection widened.
The countryside stretched into the distance.
Fields and forests under pale morning sunlight.
Lucius turned slowly toward Mira, “This could observe anything.”
“Yes.” Mira confirmed, “But its purpose isn’t surveillance.”
Rowlehart chuckled slightly. “Forgive us. Old politicians think of strategy first.”
Mira smiled faintly, “I built it for something else.”
"Something else?" Rowlehart asked.
Mira gently guided the Snitch back toward the room.
As it floated near the ceiling, she began to explain.
“A few days ago, Draco and I visited the children’s ward at St. Mungo’s.”
Lucius glanced toward Draco, “Yes. I heard something about that.”
Mira nodded, “Many of the children there cannot leave their beds.”
Rowlehart’s expression softened, “I see.”
Mira continued, “They had never seen a Quidditch match.”
Lucius frowned slightly, “Never?”
“No.” Mira replied, “So I used the Snitch Camera.” She raised the receiving Snitch slightly, “The flying Snitch followed the match at Hogwarts. The receiving Snitch projected it in their hospital ward.”
Draco added quietly:
“They watched the entire game.”
Mira nodded, “They saw the players.”
“They heard the crowd.”
“For the first time they experienced Quidditch.”
Lucius was silent for a moment.
Then he said quietly:
“And they never left their beds.”
“No.”70Please respect copyright.PENANAHgjtCbOga6
Mira continued speaking.
“The children cheered.”
“They laughed.”
“One boy told me he forgot he was sick.”
Rowlehart’s expression shifted.
The usual political calculation softened into something warmer.
Mira continued, “That’s when I realized the Snitch Camera could do much more.”
Lucius nodded slightly, “Go on.”
Mira held the small device gently.
“Families separated by distance could watch events together. Quidditch matches. Concerts. School ceremonies.”
Rowlehart leaned forward again, “You mean parents could watch their children perform at Hogwarts even if they live abroad?”
“Yes. Magical schools could broadcast tournaments.”
Lucius’s eyes gleamed faintly, “And ill children could remain connected to school life.”
Mira nodded, “Yes.”
For several moments the room remained silent.
The Snitches hovered softly above them.
Their wings beating gently.
Lucius walked slowly around the table.
Then he spoke quietly. “Miss Silverthorne…this invention does something remarkable.”
Mira looked up, “It allows people to share moments across distance.”
Rowlehart nodded thoughtfully, “It strengthens families. Communities. Schools.”
Draco leaned back with a small grin, “Told you she builds things that change the world.”
Lucius gave his son a faint smile, “Indeed.”
Rowlehart began pacing slowly, “The implications are enormous.”
Lucius nodded. "Sporting events. Cultural performances. International magical gatherings.”
Rowlehart stopped pacing, “This could connect wizarding communities across continents.”
Mira tilted her head slightly, “I hadn’t thought that far ahead.”
Lucius chuckled softly, “That’s why we have politicians.”
Rowlehart turned to Mira.
His expression was now completely serious.
“Miss Silverthorne.”
“This invention deserves recognition.”
He folded his hands behind his back.
“I will present the Snitch Camera before the Wizengamot.”
Draco raised an eyebrow.
“That was fast.”
Rowlehart smiled slightly.
“I know an important development when I see one.”
Lucius nodded in agreement.
“And I will support the proposal.”
Mira blinked.
“You will?”
Lucius’s voice remained calm.
“An invention that strengthens wizarding families is worthy of the Ministry’s backing.”
Rowlehart added:
“And with proper regulation, it could become a cornerstone of magical communication.”
Mira gently caught the flying Snitches as they descended into her hands.
Their tiny wings folded.
Lucius studied the device thoughtfully, “…It looks like an ordinary Golden Snitch.”
“That was intentional.” Mira admitted.
“So it wouldn’t attract attention?”
“Yes.”
Lucius smiled faintly, “Elegant design.”
Rowlehart nodded, “Discreet magic is often the most powerful.”
Draco crossed his arms, “So that’s it then?”
Rowlehart chuckled, “Oh no.” He looked at Mira again, “This is only the beginning.”
As Mira carefully placed the Snitch Cameras back into their velvet case, sunlight poured through the tall windows of Malfoy Manor.
The light reflected faintly off the blue runes etched into the golden surface.
Lucius spoke one last time, “Miss Silverthorne…you have a rare gift.”
Mira looked up.
“Not just invention.”
“Vision.”
Rowlehart nodded in agreement, “You built something that carries more than images.”
Draco smirked slightly, “What does it carry?”
Rowlehart smiled, “Connection.”
Lucius looked toward the distant horizon beyond the manor windows, “And sometimes…that is the most powerful magic of all.”
