Late evening settled gently over Hogwarts.
Beyond the tall windows of the Serpent’s Wing, the sky had darkened to deep indigo, and the stars glittered like scattered diamonds above the towers of the ancient castle. A cool autumn wind whispered across the Black Lake, stirring faint ripples that shimmered beneath the moonlight.
Inside Mira Silverthorne’s private chamber, the air hummed softly with magic.
The room had long since become more than a bedroom. Tables were covered with parchment diagrams, runic sketches, magical instruments, lenses, enchanted wires, and delicate arcane tools. Shelves were stacked with books ranging from magical engineering to ancient rune theory.
At the center of the largest worktable lay a tiny object that glowed faintly.
The Snitch Camera.
Its golden surface shone like sunlight trapped in metal. Two delicate wings, feather-thin and perfectly articulated, rested folded against its sides. Etched across the surface of the golden sphere were elegant runes that glowed with a soft, pale blue light.
Each rune had been carved by hand.
Each one had purpose.
Each one had been carefully balanced with the others.
Mira leaned over the table, holding the final tool—a slender rune-carving needle made from enchanted silver.
Her teal eyes were focused with intense precision.
Draco Malfoy sat across the room in a high-backed chair, watching her with growing fascination.
He had been observing the project for days now.
And even he—who had grown up surrounded by wealth, magical artifacts, and clever inventions—had to admit that what Mira was building was extraordinary.
She carefully carved the final rune.
The tiny mark shimmered.
Then—
The entire Snitch pulsed once with soft blue light.
Mira slowly set the tool aside.
She exhaled, “It’s finished.”
Draco leaned forward instantly, “Finally.”
He rose from the chair and crossed the room, stopping beside the table.
He studied the object carefully, “You’ve been working on that thing for nearly a week.”
Mira smiled softly, “It required precision.”
Draco tilted his head, “You mean you didn’t want it exploding.”
“That too.” Mira agreed.
Pip the Niffler popped his small head out of a pile of glittering metal parts nearby and chirped excitedly.
Mira gently lifted the Snitch Camera.
Its wings fluttered once in her palm, as if already eager to fly.
Draco crossed his arms, “Well?”
Mira blinked, “Well what?”
“A demonstration.” Draco clarified.
Mira smiled, “Of course.”
She placed the device gently on the table and spoke a soft activation charm.
“Aperio Oculus.”
The runes ignited.
A soft blue glow rippled across the golden surface.
The wings unfolded slowly.
Then—
With a faint metallic hum—
The Snitch lifted into the air.
Draco watched intently.
It hovered gracefully above the table.
Its movement was smooth, controlled, almost alive.
Mira reached into her pocket and pulled out the second Snitch—the receiver.
Unlike the camera, this one had no runes.
It was smooth gold, its wings folded quietly against its shell.
She placed it on the table.
Then she tapped it lightly.
Immediately, shimmering light blossomed above it.
A holographic image formed in midair.
Draco’s eyes widened.
The projection showed the room from above.
From the Snitch’s perspective.
He could see himself standing beside the table.
He could see Mira.
Even Pip.
All moving in real time.
Draco let out a low whistle, “Alright. That’s impressive.”
Mira guided the Snitch through the room with small gestures.
The hologram moved instantly.
It was seamless.
Effortless.
Perfect.
Draco rubbed his chin thoughtfully, “You’ve created a flying magical broadcaster.”
Mira laughed quietly, “I suppose so.”
Draco circled the table.
“You know where we should test it.”
Mira already knew, “The Quidditch pitch.”
Draco nodded, “If it can keep up with Seekers and Chasers flying at full speed…then it will work anywhere.”
Mira smiled, “That was my thought.”
Draco leaned against the table, “There’s only one problem.”
Mira raised an eyebrow, “Madam Hooch.”
Draco nodded, “She might not appreciate experimental magical devices flying around her players.”
Mira considered that.
Then she said calmly: “We’ll ask.”
Draco stared at her, “You’re serious.”
Mira nodded, “Yes.”
Draco smirked, “Well, this should be interesting.”
The next afternoon was cool and bright.
The wind swept across the Hogwarts grounds, sending orange and gold leaves swirling across the grass.
The Quidditch pitch stood proudly beyond the castle walls—its towering goalposts stretching toward the sky like giant silver needles.
Several teams were already practicing.
Students soared through the air on broomsticks.
Bludgers darted across the pitch.
The Quaffle zipped between Chasers.
And Madam Rolanda Hooch stood near the center of the field, observing everything with hawk-like precision. Valion the Hippogriff and Solareth the Griffin stood beside her. Athena was perched on a crate nearby, observing the players as well.
Hooch's yellow eyes missed nothing.
Mira and Draco approached her carefully.
Draco muttered under his breath, “Try not to startle her.”
Mira smiled.
Madam Hooch noticed them immediately. Valion, Solareth and Athena went over to Mira and Draco. Athena perched herself on Mira's right shoulder while Valion and Solareth nuzzled Mira who chuckled and petted them.
She turned, “Yes?” Her sharp gaze fell on Mira, “What can I help you with, Miss Silverthorne?”
Mira bowed her head politely, “I’ve created something I’d like to test during Quidditch practice.”
Hooch raised an eyebrow, “Have you now?”
Draco shifted slightly, “Something safe,” he added quickly.
Hooch crossed her arms, “What sort of invention?”
Mira lifted the Snitch Camera from her pocket.
It glimmered in the sunlight.
Madam Hooch leaned closer, “That looks like a Golden Snitch.”
“It’s modeled after one.” Mira explained.
Hooch studied the glowing runes, “…But Snitches don’t have runic enchantments.”
“No.” Mira confirmed, “It’s a camera.”
Hooch blinked.
“A flying camera.” Draco added, “It can record matches.”
“And project them in real time.” Mira added.
Madam Hooch’s expression changed.
She looked intrigued, “Show me.”
Mira activated the Snitch.
The golden wings burst into motion.
The device shot into the sky.
Madam Hooch’s sharp eyes followed it, “Well now.”
The receiver Snitch hovered in front of Mira, Draco and Hooch.
The holographic projection appeared.
Madam Hooch leaned closer.
The projection displayed the Quidditch field from above.
Players streaked across the sky.
The towers.
The stands.
All captured in perfect detail.
Hooch stared, “…Remarkable.”
Draco smirked slightly.
Mira guided the Snitch higher.
It soared above the pitch like a real Snitch.
The projection adjusted instantly.
Now it showed the Ravenclaw Chasers executing a passing formation.
Madam Hooch watched carefully, “It’s keeping up.”
The Snitch darted downward.
Then sideways.
Then across the entire pitch.
The hologram remained stable.
Perfect.
Madam Hooch straightened slowly, “Well, I’ll be.”58Please respect copyright.PENANAnGzD54Kr5w
Mira and Draco could tell that Hooch was impressed.
Hooch turned to the players. “Continue practice!” Then she looked at Mira, “Let’s see what it can do.”
The teams resumed flying.
The Snitch Camera soared among them.
It captured dives.
Passes.
Bludger strikes.
The speed was incredible.
But the Snitch matched them effortlessly.
Sometimes it flew above the field.
Sometimes between players.
Sometimes near the hoops.
Draco watched the projection closely, “You could broadcast entire matches with this.”
Mira nodded, “That’s the idea.”
Madam Hooch studied the display carefully.
Her expression slowly shifted from curiosity to admiration.
“Miss Silverthorne…”
“Yes?”
“This invention could change Quidditch forever.”
Draco grinned, “Told you.”
As the practice ended, the Snitch Camera returned to Mira’s hand.
The runes dimmed gently.
Madam Hooch folded her arms thoughtfully.
“Parents could watch their children play.”
“Yes.”
“Schools could broadcast tournaments.”
“Yes.”
“International matches…”
Mira smiled.
“Yes.”
Madam Hooch gave a rare grin.
“Well done, Miss Silverthorne.”
She turned toward the pitch.
“Very well done.”
Draco leaned closer to Mira.
“You realize what you’ve done.”
“What?”
“You’ve just invented magical broadcasting.”
Mira looked up at the sky where the Snitch had flown moments earlier.
And she smiled.
Because she knew this was only the beginning.
