The first rays of the sun had barely begun to touch the high towers of Hogwarts, and yet the Serpent’s Wing was already alive with activity. Mira Silverthorne’s silver-white hair glimmered faintly in the warm light that filtered through the tall, narrow windows of her private chamber. The room, uniquely hers because of the legacy embedded in her heirship ring, was a marvel of organization and magic—her sanctuary suitcase nested neatly in one corner, Valion perched regally on the windowsill, and her collection of familiars and enchanted tools lined meticulously along shelves and worktables.
Isolde, her older half-veela sister from Ravenclaw, was seated at a long worktable, her emerald-flecked eyes tracing intricate sketches and notes that sprawled across parchment. Mira moved around her, carrying vials, rings, and fragments of enchanted metals, setting them gently on the table with precision and care. Draco, who had somehow managed to sneak past the hallway portraits without being noticed, leaned against the doorframe, arms crossed, observing the sisters with a mixture of curiosity and awe.
“What exactly are you two making this time?” Draco asked, his usual nonchalance failing to mask his interest.
Mira glanced up from the runes she was inscribing on a thin band of moonstone. Her teal eyes met Draco’s, calm but focused. “A moonstone ring,” she said simply, her tone even but filled with purpose. “It’s enchanted to help werewolves remain sane during their shifts and ensure that the transformations are painless.” She paused, letting the weight of the explanation settle in. “It’s part of a larger project—The Lunar Haven.”
Draco stepped closer, his brow furrowed. “The Lunar Haven?”
Mira gestured toward a large wooden trunk resting in the center of the room. Unlike any ordinary trunk, it shimmered faintly at the edges, as though it were breathing. “It’s not just a trunk,” she explained. “Inside, it contains a forest dimension—a safe, private space for werewolves to shift without fear of harming themselves or anyone else. The trunk locks automatically both inside and out, opening only at dawn. But if a werewolf is in distress, a licensed healer or auror can access it using this.” She held up a delicate key, its metal curling into a crescent, glinting in the sunlight.

{A/N: This is the Crescent Key. Not my original design. I found it on Pinterest}
Draco’s eyes widened. “That’s… incredible. But how do you make sure someone doesn’t misuse it?”
Mira’s lips curved in a small smile, though her focus never left her work. “The trunk has runes embedded within it. Only those with authorization, like a licensed healer or an auror, can manipulate it in any meaningful way. The runes also allow them to monitor the werewolf’s condition remotely, so if there’s any sign of distress, intervention can happen immediately.” She tapped the carved symbols lightly with her wand. A faint silver glow illuminated the rune, confirming its enchantment.
Isolde, working on the moonstone ring, chimed in, “We’re integrating knowledge from Helena Ravenclaw’s diary for this. We needed guidance on creating complex, protective enchantments that interface directly with biological transformations.” She handed Mira a sheet of parchment with diagrams copied carefully from the diary, the ink shimmering faintly. “These designs are centuries old, but they’re still perfectly effective if used properly.”
Mira nodded, aligning the runes on the moonstone band with the diagrams. “The diary’s instructions help stabilize magical energy for biological adaptation,” she explained. “Without it, the enchantments would be prone to failure under the stress of a werewolf’s transformation.”
Draco leaned over slightly, examining the ring. “That’s… the Moonstone Ring?”
Mira held it up. The moonstone seemed almost alive, its surface catching the light like a miniature, pulsing moon. The runes engraved around it glimmered with silver and pale blue luminescence. “Yes,” Mira said softly. “It’s just one part of the Lunar Haven project. Every piece we create works together to protect and preserve magical beings.”

{A/N: That's what the Moonstone Ring looks like}
Draco’s eyes flicked to the trunk. “And the forest inside it… how does that even work?”
Isolde smiled. “Think of it as a pocket dimension. It’s enchanted to replicate a natural forest environment—trees, streams, open clearings—everything a werewolf might need to shift safely. Mira designed the enchantments to regulate the magic of the space according to the creature inside, adjusting temperature, gravity, and the flow of magical energy.”
Draco whistled softly. “That’s… actually brilliant.”
Mira, turning her attention back to her worktable, began crafting a second ring. The gem set in this one glowed a soft orange, and the metal shimmered as if it were infused with sunlight. “This is the Sunstone Ring,” she explained, placing it carefully beside the Moonstone Ring. “It will allow vampires to walk safely in sunlight without suffering harm.”

{A/N: This is the Sunstone Ring}
Draco raised an eyebrow. “And… how are the vampires supposed to get their blood for sustenance?”
Mira’s expression softened. “We’ll implement Blood Banks,” she said matter-of-factly. “They’ll be magically enchanted storage spaces for blood collected ethically, so vampires can feed without hunting wizards or muggles.”
Draco blinked, impressed despite himself. “You really thought of everything.”
Pip, perched nearby, squeaked and scampered across the table, investigating vials and tiny silver charms that Mira had arranged for the Moonstone Ring’s enchantment. Mira reached down and stroked his fur, whispering, “Good boy, Pip. We’ll need your assistance for the next phase.”
Isolde looked at her sister with admiration. “It’s incredible how much you’ve accomplished in just a month, Mira. Most students don’t even know about these species-specific needs yet.”
Mira gave a modest smile. “I couldn’t have done it without Helena Ravenclaw’s diary. The knowledge in it… it’s like she left us a blueprint.”
Draco leaned closer, studying the intricate carvings on the trunk. “How do you make sure it’s safe? I mean… the werewolves and vampires could be dangerous if something goes wrong.”
Mira pointed to the crescent key. “The trunk’s protections are layered. Only authorized personnel can open it in emergency situations. The Moonstone and Sunstone Rings are designed to regulate physical transformations and sunlight tolerance. Everything works in tandem. If any magical anomaly arises, the runes alert the caretaker or healer immediately.”
Isolde’s eyes sparkled with curiosity as she examined the rings. “And the rings… they’re enchanted to communicate with the trunk?”
Mira nodded. “Exactly. The Moonstone Ring communicates with the Lunar Haven trunk, regulating the magic inside and providing feedback to the healer monitoring the werewolf. The Sunstone Ring does the same for vampires, ensuring they remain stable and safe in daylight conditions. Each ring is crafted with precise rune placement—without Helena Ravenclaw’s instructions, this level of synchronization would have been impossible.”
Draco leaned against the wall, genuinely impressed. “So… these are like… high-level protective artifacts.”
Mira tilted her head. “They’re solutions. Simple and elegant solutions, but they require careful execution. That’s why we needed the diary. Its instructions are centuries old but still remarkably effective.”
Pip chirped, hopping from the Moonstone Ring to the Sunstone Ring, inspecting both with his beady eyes. Mira chuckled softly. “Even Pip approves.”
Isolde continued examining the Lunar Haven trunk. “And the runes on it? Are they tied to the rings?”
“Yes,” Mira replied. “The runes interact with the rings’ magic. When a werewolf shifts, the Moonstone Ring stabilizes the transformation and signals the runes in the trunk to adjust the environment. The werewolf has privacy and safety, but the caretakers can intervene if necessary. Same for the Sunstone Ring and vampires.”
Draco shook his head in disbelief. “You’ve basically created a miniature magical ecosystem… just for them.”
Mira nodded, her expression focused but satisfied. “Exactly. It’s about balance. Protection. Respecting the creatures’ needs while maintaining safety for everyone else.”
Isolde’s fingers traced the carvings on the Moonstone Ring. “I never thought magic could be used so precisely… it’s amazing.”
Mira smiled. “That’s the gift of studying carefully and using the right knowledge. Helena Ravenclaw knew how to structure enchantments with subtlety and power. That’s why the diary was so essential.”
Draco, pacing slightly, finally asked, “So… when will these be ready?”
Mira and Isolde exchanged a glance. “We’ll continue refining the enchantments,” Mira said. “It will take time, but the first prototype of the Lunar Haven should be functional by the end of the week. The rings are already attuned.”
Isolde added, “And once we finish, it could change the way magical beings are treated. Werewolves won’t have to fear the full moon, vampires won’t have to fear the sun. It’s safer for everyone.”
Draco’s usually cynical expression softened. “I didn’t think… I mean, I didn’t expect magic could do this much good.”
Mira’s eyes met his. “It’s not about expectation. It’s about understanding the problem and using magic responsibly.”
Pip chirped again, hopping onto the edge of the Lunar Haven trunk. Mira reached down and patted him. “You’ll help me monitor the rings and trunk once it’s in use,” she said.
The sisters worked silently for several minutes, refining the runes, aligning the enchantments, and making sure every detail was perfect. The soft glow from the Moonstone and Sunstone Rings illuminated their faces, reflecting the dedication and brilliance that had gone into every step of the project.
Finally, Mira leaned back and surveyed their work. “It’s ready for a trial run,” she said softly.
Isolde nodded. “Everything’s calibrated. If a werewolf shifts inside, the trunk will adjust immediately. And if a vampire steps into sunlight with the Sunstone Ring… it will protect them as intended.”
Draco finally allowed a genuine smile. “I don’t think I’ve ever seen magic used this well.”
Mira and Isolde exchanged a quiet smile. “It’s not about showmanship,” Mira said. “It’s about care. Responsibility. Using magic to protect those who cannot always protect themselves.”
The four of them—Mira, Isolde, Draco, and Pip—stood silently in the Serpent’s Wing, surrounded by the soft hum of magic, enchanted tools, and ancient knowledge. Outside, the first rays of dawn lit up the castle towers, signaling a new day. Inside, a new kind of magic had awakened: one that blended intellect, compassion, and responsibility into something lasting and extraordinary.
The Lunar Haven trunk, the Moonstone Ring, and the Sunstone Ring sat at the center of the room, gleaming softly in the light. Each piece represented not just protection, but a promise—a promise to the magical world that Mira Silverthorne and her family would use their knowledge and power to create a safer, more harmonious future.
And as Mira gazed at her creations, she knew that this was only the beginning.
The work of understanding, protecting, and innovating magic had just begun.
