The Tuesday morning begins in the lower corridors, stone walls cool and faintly damp from the lake above.

Mira walks between Draco, Theo, Blaise, and Daphne, her sanctuary suitcase at her side — charmed lighter than air, though solid oak and reinforced with silver runes. It hums softly with contained life within: carefully tended habitats, restorative charms, and hidden ecosystems her parents helped her design.

Theo is mid-sentence about potion yields when they nearly collide with Cedric Diggory.

Cedric Diggory looks unusually distressed.

Draco slows. “Diggory?”

Cedric runs a hand through his hair. “I’ve lost something.”

Blaise arches a brow. “Homework?”

Cedric manages a weak smile. “My pocket watch. It was my grandfather’s. I had it this morning.”

The levity fades instantly.

Mira steps closer. “What does it look like?”

“Gold casing. Engraved badger crest inside. It… it doesn’t work anymore. But I carry it anyway.”

The weight in his voice says enough.

Mira kneels and opens her satchel.

A small, long snout similar to that of a platypus emerges.

Pip the Niffler blinks up at the group with bright curiosity.

Pip chirps once — serious.

Pip hops down eagerly.

“Keys,” Mira tells him gently.

Off he goes.

Between pots. Under benches. Beneath compost trays.

Sprout attempts to remain composed.

Five minutes later, a triumphant chirp echoes.

Pip emerges from beneath a stack of dragon dung fertilizer, keyring clutched in his tiny paws.

Sprout beams.

“My keys! Oh, you marvelous creature!”

She takes them, patting Pip fondly.

“Five points to Slytherin!”

Draco looks pleased.

Sprout turns to the door, inserts the key—

And grimaces.

“Oh no.”

The swollen wood refuses to budge. The lock sticks stubbornly.

She jiggles.

Pushes.

Pulls.

Nothing.

Mira gently lifts her sleeve.

Twig the Bowtruckle peeks out.

Small.

Watchful.

“Would you?” she murmurs.

Twig nods solemnly and scampers up the doorframe, slipping delicately into the keyhole.

There’s a soft internal click.

The door swings open smoothly.

Sprout laughs outright.

“Ten points total to Slytherin!” she declares warmly. “Five more for brilliant problem-solving!”

She bends down and scratches Pip’s head again.

“And thank you, little one,” she adds to Twig.

Twig curls shyly around Mira’s wrist.

The class proceeds without further incident.

Defense Against the Dark Arts

D.A.D.A. passes uneventfully.

No missing artifacts.

No misplaced heirlooms.

Just careful note-taking and Quirrell’s faintly trembling lectures.

Draco seems faintly disappointed nothing required rescuing.

Charms Class

By afternoon, they are in the bright warmth of the Charms classroom.

Filius Flitwick is patting his desk frantically.

“My focusing prism! Oh dear, oh my…”

Hermione looks personally wounded by the loss.

Mira raises a hand.

“Professor, may Pip assist?”

Flitwick had a confused expression, "Pip?"

Pip the Niffler appeared on Mira's desk, looking ready to find what was lost.

Flitwick beams. “Yes, yes! Brilliant idea!”

Pip is already halfway across the room.

Under desks.

Behind curtains.

Up a bookshelf.

He pauses near the windowsill, nose twitching.

Then disappears behind a stack of parchment rolls.

A second later he pops back out, prism in his mouth.

Flitwick claps delightedly.

“Splendid! Five points to Slytherin!”

Pip places the prism carefully in his hand.

Flitwick bows deeply to him.

“An invaluable assistant!”

Pip seems pleased — though unaware that this pattern is quietly forming a reputation.

After Charms

The corridors are quieter now.

Sunlight slants through a damaged window near the second-floor landing.

A faint, distressed meow echoes.

Mira stops instantly.

Behind a warped window frame, a familiar grey shape is awkwardly trapped between a broken pane and the outer ledge.

Mrs. Norris.

Mrs. Norris hisses softly — more frightened than angry.

The broken wood has caught her foot.

Draco glances around cautiously.

Mira kneels.

“It’s alright,” she murmurs gently.

She sets down her suitcase and carefully pries the wood apart with controlled wandless magic — slow, steady pressure.

No splintering.

No sudden movement.

The tension releases.

Mrs. Norris slips free and lands lightly in Mira’s arms.

Instead of darting away—

She purrs.

Loudly.

She nuzzles into Mira’s sleeve, pressing her head beneath Mira’s chin. Mira gently pets her, making Mrs. Norris even louder.

Draco blinks.

“That’s… unexpected.”

Footsteps echo.

Argus Filch appears around the corner, eyes wide.

“Mrs. Norris!”

He rushes forward — suspicious at first.

Mira rises slowly, carefully lowering the cat to the floor.

“The window frame caught her,” she explains calmly. “It’s splintered.”

Filch examines the frame, then his cat.

Mrs. Norris rubs against Mira’s leg.

Purring.

Filch looks up at her — surprised.

“…Thank you,” he says gruffly. “Most students don’t bother.”

Mira offers a small smile. “I was happy to help.”

Mrs. Norris meows in clear agreement.

Filch nods once, stiff but sincere.

Draco watches silently as they walk away.

“You rescue heirlooms, keys, prisms, and now caretaker cats,” he mutters.

Mira adjusts the handle of her sanctuary suitcase.

“I just don’t like seeing things stuck.”

Pip peeks from her suitcase, chirped happily.

Twig curls sleepily around her wrist.

It has been an ordinary day.

No grand battles.

No dramatic revelations.

Just small, quiet acts.

And though no one says it yet—

Something is building.

A pattern of returned treasures.

Unlocked doors.

Freed creatures.

And a silver-haired first-year who never seems too busy to help.
