There was a girl who loved so deeply at five,

Who thought the world was nothing but wonder,

Who loved another girl,

Not thinking anything was wrong.

But that other girl knew,

Even when the first girl denied liking her like that.

The other girl took advantage,

Having the first girl do things she didn’t like in order to keep her approval,

Her affection,

Her friendship.

She was hot and cold,

Destroying everything only to act confused when the first girl was hurt.

She was engraved in the girl’s life for six years,

All the way until fourth grade when that was the last time the girl saw her.

She once was a trio in kindergarten,

Two girls and a boy who’d play make believe,

Who hunted monsters and such.

But then the glue moved,

She was a kind soul with black hair,

She was the one who held our odd trio together.

Then left the boy,

He found a new group,

He settled into the popular crowd,

All but forgetting the second little girl.

Then came the trio of first grade,

Two boys and a girl this time.

One boy was in her class,

A funny,

Athletic soul.

His friend was kind with fluffy brown hair,

He always made her laugh,

This trio lasted till fourth grade.

Now all three are still friendly,

The boys are still best friends,

And the girl an acquaintance.

Then there was the third grade trio.

Two girls and a boy again,

The second girl was in the girl’s class,

And they became best friends.

But then came fourth grade,

And the second girl started to date the boy.

They were a nice couple,

But the other girl always felt like the third wheel,

Always intruding on their time.

After they broke up the two girls stayed best friends.

And then the best friend said she was a boy.

So after five years of knowing him as she, he became he,

And the girl still loves him like a brother.

And from kindergarten to now,

Almost every time the girl made a friend something happened.

The friend would move away,

They would become distant,

They’d grow out of each other,

It just would never work.
