11:11 - "Meant to be"

Anirudh had walked a little distance when he heard a voice from behind.

“Stop!”

He turned back. Shruti was walking toward him.

“Come,” Anirudh said, and the two of them started walking together.

The time was exactly 11:11.

They walked for a short distance in silence. Shyness was visible on their faces.

Anirudh spoke softly,

“Where are you from?”

“K. R. Nagar,” Shruti replied.

“Oh, okay.”

She then asked him suspiciously,

“Are you following me?”

Anirudh panicked.

“No, no! Nothing like that!”

She nodded.

“Hmm… okay. What’s your name?”

“Anirudh. And yours?”

“Shruti.”

“Nice name,” he smiled.

“I’m really not following you. It’s just a coincidence.”

They continued walking and reached the Sabar bus stand. Very little conversation happened; most of the time, they walked in silence. Around 11:55 PM, they crossed past the bus stand. Shruti remained quiet, while Anirudh kept noticing her.

“Are you always like this?” he asked.

“Like this?” she replied.

“I mean… always silent?”

“It’s not like that,” she said.

“I’m just stressed and tired.”

He looked at her carefully.

“When I see you, it doesn’t feel like that. I think you’re depressed and thinking about something.”

“Oh no, nothing like that,” she said quickly.

“Don’t misunderstand.”

“If you don’t want to share, it’s okay,” Anirudh said gently.

Shruti walked a little distance in silence. She took a deep breath.

Suddenly, a man on the footpath came staggering and shouting.

“Be careful!” Anirudh said and instinctively stepped in front of her, protecting her.

A faint, unnoticed smile appeared on Shruti’s lips.

“He’s gone now. Come,” Anirudh said.

After staying silent for so long, Shruti finally began to speak.

“To be honest,” she said softly,

“the reason for my silence… is love.”

Anirudh’s expression changed.

“Oh… okay.”

“One incident changed my life,” she continued.

“I was extroverted and talkative. But after that, I became silent.”

He asked in a low voice,

“Who was it?”

“Satvik,” she said.

“When I was in my final year of engineering, I fell in love with him. We talked often. But he never saw me the way I saw him.”

“What happened next?” Anirudh asked.

“One day, he invited me to his birthday party. I went… but it wasn’t just a birthday party.”

“Then?”

“It was his engagement,” she said.

“He was in love with a girl named Nikita. I didn’t know anything until that moment.”

She paused.

“I was deeply hurt and disappointed. From that day on, I became silent.”

“I’m really sorry for asking,” Anirudh said.

“It’s okay.”

“I understand,” he said softly.

“I can feel it.”

She looked at him.

“You mean… you’ve been through this too?”

“Yes,” he nodded.

“But it wasn’t one-sided. It was a two-year relationship.”

He smiled sadly.

“Do you know Switzerland?”

“Yes.”

“She was like a flower on those mountains,” he said.

“And I was the butterfly searching for her.”

“Those two years were beautiful — love, care, fun, romance, possessiveness… everything.”

He took a deep breath.

“But six months ago, she broke up with me… because I was a failure.”

“Now I’m also struggling to come out of this heartbreak,” he added.

“But I’m trying to accept it.”

“I’m sorry, Anirudh,” Shruti said softly.

“It’s okay,” he replied.

“In life, some people come and go. But getting attached hurts.”

He smiled gently.

“They left us… but we still have our own life. Let’s live it.

There will be someone meant for us — we just have to wait.”

Shruti nodded.

“Yes. Andrew Garfield once said, ‘This pain is a kind of gift.’”

Anirudh smiled.

“That’s true. And also — ‘The sweetest thing we can do is let them go.’”

Her eyes lit up.

“Wow… I really liked that line.”

They reached near the quarters.

“How do you know Andrew Garfield?” Anirudh asked.

“From The Amazing Spider-Man,” she smiled.

“Wow.”

“That movie is my favorite.”

“Mine too!”

They laughed softly, walking happily.

Before 11:11, both of them were suffering from their past pain.

After meeting each other, they felt lighter.

She laughed playfully.

“My quarters are here.”

“Okay. Good night.”

“Good night.”

She turned to leave, then stopped.

“Anirudh!”

“Yes, Shruti?”

“If you don’t mind… shall we go to work together tomorrow?”

“Of course,” he smiled.

“Okay. See you in the morning.”
