Cahoots underground.
A famous pub in London, known for its cheap and yet somehow quality alcohol . That's not the reason I was here though, I had come seeking it for it's lesser known traits , such as being a famed information hub good for networking.
But when looking at preferences...mine to be specific.
I , however, personally prefer the one William Shakespeare, 'the famous poet' went too during his time .
The current massive public focus on the place was mostly because it's was the area in which the latest case happened . The case itself was weird if not oddly wrong , though I'm not too much of a religious person , even I had to acknowledge the odd vibe of supernatural and death with everything not quite making sense .
The report goes as follows ; " The drunken Bard's pub on 3 July 1710 , under the reigning monarchy , was besieged by a squadron of elite royal soldiers. '', It had originally been a bad area - incidents usually being kept under the wraps , except the case was one too big this time , allowing it to go public as information was sold to the press causing havoc among the surrounding population , thus the engagement of the royal soldiers .
" The scene happened in the pub. " , according to various sources and watching bystanders , " It had been another normal uneventful working day and when evening struck , most of us went to the pub . Mostly to drink a cup of cold beer and maybe get a little pleasure from them soft ladies ." recounted a man who had been there at the time it happened .
Now the story goes as follows - the waiter serving drinks had slipped on the wet floor , causing the beverages to go flying to the circuit board - cutting off the lights. During the period of darkness a sound was heard upstairs, a loud thud then another , many more following.
This is where the chaos ensued , with people thrashing and panicking , ladies screaming bloody murder , questions as to why there were sounds above, sadly falling to deaf ears in midst of the noise.
When questioned why they didn't exit through the front door, " The door was somehow locked , didn't even budge when three buff guys banged against it !" , recounted a woman .
This of course lead to people barricading and crushing each other to reach the door , but the one version of this story that adds a bit of realism is , one person , some time during the intervals at which the sounds were made , heard the distinct sound of a chainsaw . At first the statement didn't weigh much because , when viewing the scene, the bodies had not been cut up to the point of the body parts being strewn around, no , the killer had opted for a simple clean cut detaching the head from the body .
Which was discovered when a paramedic lifted up one of the corpse to put the body bag , erupting a shrill scream from the poor woman .
I had found it to be quite the comical sight. Then again can't really blame me much as I have with time attuned my eyes to such incidents . The scene was thankfully not as gruesome as the last , it was just one dead body .
A man , six feet tall , blond hair , purple skin most likely caused by rigour mortis.
With family members recounting he was rather tan when alive . Facial features are as follows; typical period blue eyes , pink lips-quite chapped if I must comment . A bit of peach fuzz growing and lady-killer cheekbones.
Background ; He frequented the pub most days and was a registered regular , though it it rather odd for such a depleted and unorganised bar to keep track of its regulars through official documentation as most opt for active recall through the bartender . He was well known for always taking a girl upstairs as, he is or was rather a glorified twenty-seven straight-up deadbeat.
Attire worn that day was a grey old thick coat paired with green boots clean underneath, indicating he worked in a factory, not outside. He had black high-waist pants and was evidently not up-to-date with current trends this season .
Medical history- Maddison continued to review letting out a sight at the massive amount of paperwork he'd have to go through - had a few run-ins with loan sharks that resulted in a few skiffs and bruises , but in this day and age who hasn't.
However one conclusion could be made .
The waiter was definitely an accomplice, no one can spill a tray of drinks they carry everyday , and just when the lights need to go out and a head be detached , definitely suspicious I added trying to piece everything together .
Nothing matched nor linked to the Lawrence case and that was a bit troubling because he now couldn't suggest that there was the involvement of another .
The gardener was set to be executed at the guillotine exactly ten days from now , and yet here he was with nothing to defend the innocent man .
He'd have to find a way to prolong the trail .
"Detective Maddison, what have you managed to figure out so far ?", asked Louis Clearwater , Senior officer of the king's guard , also a popular womaniser and daddy's boy now currently someone who does not greet .
He's not really serious about his work , but had to come out and play deputy because the case happened in an arena under his jurisdiction.
Meaning he had to be physically present to show his 'devoutness' and involvement in solving the case .
" No , not at all officer , apologies" , I say with clear disinterest , " I'll contact you when I have something " .
" Sure detective! ", he says slyly with a badly done wink at the end resembling a twitching eye . I should also add terrible flirt. Regardless of the gender of his partners , I'm confident all would have some sort of hidden disdain for that eye , then again it's both brave and risky being a homosexual in London where the society is quick to condemn the slightest offense in their eyes to the guillotine, especially coming from a high-born family.
But to each man his own .
Glancing down at his pocket watch the time indicating the arrival of the night , Maddison quickly excuses himself from the scene . Hoping to arrive back home before it is eight o'clock, as he had plans to get something done before then .
And possibly rethink he's whole career .
