It had been one week since the school year started. Jiyoo, a year 1 student in Izuka High School, had been settling down in this new environment. She was quite introverted, but thankfully, her best friend, Yuri, was always there with her. They had known each other since middle school, and they were both accepted in Izuka High School Concert Band.
It was the night before the first concert band rehearsal. Jiyoo wasn't able to sleep. She was emotional: nervous, but excited. She had been dreaming for the day to arrive since the start of middle school. She couldn't believe that it was literally the next day.
The next morning, Jiyoo woke up early and got dressed. She was alerted and energetic. After school, Jiyoo quickly walked to the music room. Before entering, her heart was pumping so hard like she was on a roller coaster, but she knew that she had to stay calm.
The music room looked completely amazing. There were name tags on the chairs, reserved seats for every member, corresponding to the instruments that they played. Jiyoo walked to the clarinet section, found her seat, and then settled down. She looked around as she was a bit nervous, and she finally spotted Yuri on the other side of the room.
A clear voice from the front, followed by a round of applause. The conductor walked to the front of the classroom. He cleared his throat and started talking.
Conductor: “Good afternoon everyone. For our year 2 and year 3 students, welcome back to our family. And for our year ones, welcome to Izuka High School Concert Band. I am Mr Kon, the conductor of this band. Feel free to call me Sensei, or Kon Sensei. Now, let's have a round of applause for our concertmaster’s welcoming speech.”
Following a round of applause, Sunhyun walked to the front of the music classroom with ease and started his speech.
Sunhyun: “Thank you. My name is Park Sunhyun, and I am a year 2 student. Although I am the concertmaster, I am just a small potato compared with our year 3 students. Without the support and help from Mr Kon and our year 3 students, I wouldn't be standing here and giving a speech. Finally, I sincerely welcome all our year 1 students, and I am looking forward to having an unforgettable year with you all. Thank you.”
Jiyoo was totally amazed by Sunhyun’s welcoming speech, and she was very excited about her first year in Izuka High School, especially for the Concert Band, but she had no idea on how insane this year is going to be.
