The bell rang, echoing through the nearly empty hallways, but she didn’t move. Everyone else had already vanished, rushing home, heading to clubs, or somewhere that wasn’t this boring corridor. She tightened her backpack straps and tried to convince herself she was just being dramatic.
And then he appeared.
Leaning casually against the lockers, arms crossed, smirking like he owned the place. He had that effortless charm that made her chest tighten for no reason. She told herself it was nothing. Just a glance. Just a few seconds too long. But somehow, it felt like everything.
She rolled her eyes at herself and started walking, hoping to disappear before he could notice. Of course, he did.
“Hey,” he said, voice teasing. “Leaving so soon?”
Her stomach flipped. “Uh… just finishing up.”
“Sure,” he said, smirk widening. “I’ll just be over here… making sure you don’t sneak away.”
She cursed under her breath, but a small part of her was secretly glad he noticed.
Because as much as she hated to admit it, staying after class wasn’t just about homework anymore.
