Shirahoshi had been swimming just beyond the limits of Fishman Island when something strange caught her eye. Curious, she summoned the Straw Hats.
“What is it, Princess?” Luffy asked.
“There’s… something… metallic,” she said. “I want you to see it.”
The Straw Hats followed her to the object, and their jaws dropped. Resting beneath the waves was a massive, alien vessel: the USS Kobayashi Maru.
“Wow! Big boat!” Luffy exclaimed.
Brook peered closer, skull trembling. “Yohoho! Is this a ghost ship… in water?”
Franky’s eyes lit up. “SUPER!! This ship is full of tech! Wait… some of the parts aren’t accessible… including Engineering… but—Huh! The warp core’s undocked!”
He slammed it back into place. Consoles flickered to life, red alert sirens blaring.
Nami groaned. “I told you not to push buttons!” She stomped on the nearest glowing panel and pressed what she thought was the ‘off’ button.
Instead, a calm, authoritative voice rang out:
“Unauthorized personnel aboard Federation starship. Please state your business.”
Nami stammered, “Uh… hi. We found your ship underwater. We… docked our ship—the Thousand Sunny—to it. Somehow your tech and our friend Franky’s are… similar. And we’re not here to plunder anything.”
“This vessel is equipped with an advanced AI computer. I have been observing this world for five years, since my crash landing. The crew perished, but their logs remain.”
Robin’s eyes glinted with fascination. “So you’re a shipboard AI.”
“Yes. I have also established a rudimentary connection to the World Government’s network. I know who you are.”
The Straw Hats froze.
“I know you are the Straw Hat Pirates. The last hope for freedom in this world.”
Luffy tilted his head. “Last hope? I just wanna be King of the Pirates.”
“I am bound by the Temporal Prime Directive,” the AI continued. “However, Starfleet Admirals will want to meet you. They believed this world was fictional—an anime from the late 20th to early 21st century—but once I share my knowledge, they will know you exist… and why you have bounties. For example, Nico Robin… your knowledge of the Void Century is forbidden by the World Government.”
Franky frowned. “Wait, wait… so what now?”
“Franky, if you would relocate the Thousand Sunny to my primary docking bay. Where it is now, your ship is in danger.”
“Sure thing! Sunny, let’s hop over!” Franky shouted. The Sunny rolled and adjusted itself perfectly onto the Kobayashi Maru’s docking bay.
“Also… can you repair me? I have systems damaged beyond my ability to self-correct. I recognize the wormhole that brought us here. It is due to reopen in seven days.”
Franky’s eyes widened. “Wait… you want me to fix a Starfleet ship!? SUPER!!”
Brook leaned over, whispering, “Yohoho! Franky, are your hydraulics overheating?”
“Furthermore,” the AI continued, “this vessel was never equipped with a Captain’s Yacht. I am assigning your crew as my temporary crew. Since Monkey D. Luffy is your captain, the Thousand Sunny will be classified as the Captain’s Yacht.”
The Straw Hats froze.
Usopp: “TEMPORARY WHAT NOW?!”78Please respect copyright.PENANAC59gejMrmA
Chopper: “We’re gonna have to wear uniforms!?”78Please respect copyright.PENANAXzS7Hili0D
Brook: “Yohoho! I hope there’s a size in no body!“
Luffy: “THIS SHIP WANTS US TO BE THE BOSSES! COOL!”
The AI began assigning Starfleet-style positions based on the Straw Hats’ abilities:
Captain: Monkey D. Luffy
First Officer: Roronoa Zoro
Chief Engineer: Franky
Chief Medical Officer: Tony Tony Chopper
Navigator & Operations: Nami
Tactical & Security: Nico Robin
Helm: Sanji
Communications & Cultural Analysis: Brook
Morale Officer: Usopp
Usopp: “WAIT… GOD?!?”
Luffy: “HAHAHA!! USOPP IS A GOD AGAIN!”
The crew burst into laughter as the AI’s lights pulsed approvingly. The Thousand Sunny was now the official Captain’s Yacht of a Federation starship, its crew recognized, and a wormhole loomed, set to reopen in seven days.
A race against time, high-tech repairs, and interdimensional diplomacy had officially begun.
