The last time I saw my dad was several years ago. He was a loving father but suddenly vanished with no explanation in 2031, if I recall correctly. He hasn't returned since and mom assumed that he sadly died, but this was never confirmed. Now, he was very much alive and just save me from almost certain death.
He, for the most part, looked like an adult version of me, excluding the glasses, which he didn't have. He was wearing a dark blue suit and a black vest that was presumably bulletproof. He also had black leggins with some metallic armour pieces attatched to them. He also had a laser blaster, which is a weapon capable of firing a laser for a split second, creating a light pellet that is powerful enough to pierce metal. Why is my dad armed?
- Son?! - he asked upon seeing my face.
- Dad?! - I reacted in a similar fashion - You're alive...?
- How... how did you get here? - my father, Anthony, was still in shock.
- Those guys are trying to kill us! We must find shelter, than I'll explain... - I touched my dad's face, thinking that he might have been a hallucination. He was real.
Anthony helped me get up and fired his blaster at the Chinese guards. He didn't intend to kill them, just scare them away. It worked. The armed men ran away, with the pellet setting a decaying purple leaf on fire.
Dad quickly extinguished the flames before they started burning out of control. Fearing possible reinforcements, we chose to find a hideout.
- It's been so long since we've last seen each other... What's changed while I was absent? - Anthony suddenly asked me.
I didn't know how to reply. Can I tell him about my new space spy career? Or are the details too classified to see the light of day?
- Did... something bad happen? - Anthony sensed my concern - I'm your father and I'll always be with you. You can tell me anything.
- May I ask you about something first? - I replied carefully. Dad nodded.16Please respect copyright.PENANAk33xMuQcBB
- Why did you vanish four years ago and why are you here with a laser blaster? - I hoped that this question wouldn't annoy him. My father seemingly knew that this question would eventually come. He sighed and started explaining.16Please respect copyright.PENANA0qXx9L0EN0
- When the war broke out, I always wanted to protect you and Justine. I guarded the house, delivered supplies to the neighbourhood and even took down a few enemy soldiers myself. Eventually, the Agency of Cosmic Espionage noticed, remembering our shared knowledge of space and my newfound skills. They ended up recruiting me as a field agent. The problem was that I had to be isolated from you as to not bring danger. Enemy agents could use you as leverage against me, so they couldn't possibly know that I have a family. It really hurt me that I was forced to leave you... I still did my best to protect you from afar... It really was horrible to not hear from you for so long... That pesky Nigel forced me to leave... - dad suddenly bursted into tears. 16Please respect copyright.PENANAbZ8cjI53Lx
Splitting our family did hurt a lot and I was happy to hear that he still remembered about us after all those years. At the same time, I was shocked that he too got enlisted into the agency. Was it seeking us for far longer than I thought?
- I'm sorry for leaving you. I'm terribly sorry...! - Anthony hugged me, crying. I hugged him back.
- Now we're together and we're both in a deadly situation... - I tried to cheer him up but failed.
- How did you come here? This place is dangerous, why would you risk entering it...? - Dad asked, still weeping a bit.
- Well, remember the Academy of Astronauts? I got enrolled, but it turned out to be an academy for the Agency of Cosmic Espionage and I quickly became a junior agent. I've already participated in two missions and this is my third one... - I went on, telling dad about my adventures as a space spy and all the enemies I made in the meantime. I also mentioned that Captain Nigel is our principal, as I assumed that he was the same Nigel mentioned by Anthony.16Please respect copyright.PENANA0PQ6DQe6GW
- Wow, what a coincidence - Anthony commented - Still, they shouldn't send you here. There is a lot hidden beneath the surface. BIORBITAL isn't just working on artificial plants and animals to breed in space and feed us. There are projects hidden from the public eye. Projects not even I and my allies are able to uncover.
- The situation on Earth is dire. Apparently, China may be preparing for an invasion of America and it has something to do with BIORBITAL. That's what Nigel told us... - I added.
- Where are your comrades, by the way? - Anthony responded.
- I got lost while running from the armed men... I have no idea where the rest of my unit is... - I sighed.
- Let's hide, I think I know a place - Anthony led me elsewhere. After a silent walk, we reached a small cavern.
Apparently, the bioengineered spiders used to live here, but it was recently abandoned. It was a good hideout, as not many looked into the cave. We sat down on a rock and dad pulled a strange device out of his pocket.
- What's this? - I was curious.
- I think I know how to find your friends - he showed me the device. It was a miniature radar of some kind. Dad was able to locate people in the area with it. We saw a group of five people in our vicinity. They were the armed men, as they recently left us. More interestingly, a larger group of people was concentrated in a small area west of our hideout.
- Translators! - I remembered about our tiny devices - Can you locate them?
- Yes - dad smiled slightly - Are those your allies? - he showed me four pulsating dots north of the small area with the large group.
- Yes! - the amount of people matched my team, assuming that Harold didn't leave my unit behind. We decided to go there and meet up with my friends.
The walk was exhausting and we had to hide from the armed men a few times before I heard someone fall over and yelp. As we got closer, I saw Harold lying on his belly on the dirt, with Amber, Sebastian and Claudius standing next to him. When Harold got up, he saw us and instantly deemed dad an enemy.
He attempted an attack but tripped on a root, landing before dad's feet.
- Chris? - Sebastian asked and saw dad - Who is that man? Is he evil? Did you defect to the enemy side?
- Firstly, this is my father and he isn't evil. He is an adult agent. Secondly, why would I defect? Evil sucks - dad smiled when I said this.
- Good thing that you're alive, we'll need every spy - Claudius looked at the large group of people. Dad and I joined my team and we saw the group.
It consisted mostly of scientists with a few armed guards surrounding them. The scientists were bringing out strange boxes with biohazard signs on them. One of the boxes was picked up by a small crane and lowered into a pit. Behind the crane was a laboratory with, you guessed it, unreadable Chinese text on the front wall.
Three men in hazmat suits were inspecting every box before it was grabbed by the crane. As they opened one of the boxes, we hoped to get a glimpse of its contents, but unfortunately, one of the men stood right in front of it, blocking our view. As the box was carried by the crane, the men opened the next one and froze in surprise. The scientists looked at them as if they saw aliens in their garden. One of the men said something. If not for our translators, we wouldn't have understood.16Please respect copyright.PENANABKTlUtB12z
