We met Dawn for the first time during our mission in the American Moon Base. She was the leader of a unit accompanying ours and we trusted her until the truth was revealed. She was actually a mole from the Perseids, a Russian cosmic criminal organization. She and her evil comrades tried to kill us several times during our previous two missions. Even though we thwarted both of their schemes, they always managed to escape.
After our return to Earth, I hoped that the Perseids will be someone else's concern. That we'll never have to deal with them again. I expected their return, but wished that it was just pesimism. Now, Dawn was standing right in front of us, holding a mysterious substance in a test tube.12Please respect copyright.PENANAnDeZhmFF0t
She was seemingly surprised by the fact that the shower washed away her hair dye, which she used as a disguise. I wonder: did she dye her hair after every decontamination shower? After all, there were so many!
To make matters worse, the tall man was actually Leonid, the leader of the Perseids, according to Dawn. He looked at Dawn, clearly annoyed by her forgetting about the showers. He pulled out his pistol and tried to shoot us while the airlock behind him opened up and Dawn left the restricted sector.
Luckily, he didn't manage to hit us, because he was acting quickly and didn't aim properly. He did manage to damage the airlock. Afterwards, he soon joined Dawn, with us chasing them.
We made it onto a metal platform on the surface. At the edge of the platform was a cable car of some kind. Leonid and Dawn hopped into it, with the former slamming the door shut. Dawn was frantically pressing buttons and managed to lower the cable car and move backwards before Leonid took control and they set off forward.
Luckily, there was a second cable car waiting behind the first. We jumped into it and Anthony steered the vehicle. We were now engaging in a very slow chase, because the cable cars weren't built with speed in mind. We were slow enough for a snail to be faster than us.12Please respect copyright.PENANASIVLSNmNIA
- Speed up, speed up... - Anthony hoped to find a way to change our velocity, but didn't. Looking at the controls, we could only change our path and direction, but not speed.
The good news was that the Perseids couldn't speed up either. I looked through the front window and saw a third person in the enemy cable car. Because the person was so large, it could only be Rill Gomana. He is a member of the Perseids known for his strength and size, along with a passion for history, but it he was constantly discouraged by his higher-ups to engage in it.
This time he was allowed, as he was dressed as a viking. He had a helmet with two horns, even though real vikings didn't have them. He was also wearing metal armour and holding an axe. The only thing that didn't fit this historical costume was the black gas mask covering up his face.
Rill punched through a hatch on the top of the cable car and emerged onto the roof. He tried to bring the axe through, but unfortunately for him, the blade was too large to fit through the hatch. Instead, he grabbed a laser blaster that was probably stolen. He fired at us a few times, but missed. He couldn't fire a pellet through the window, but I realised that he didn't intend to.12Please respect copyright.PENANAoxfdeFZhj9
Instead, he was trying to knock us off the cable. Concerningly, he was getting closer to actually hitting the hanger. Destroying it would send us plummeting into the artificial jungle below.
- Steer the vehicle, I'm going up - Anthony informed Sebastian. He went over to the control panel and froze in confusion. He couldn't figure out how to steer the cable car and turned to me. During our time on the Hyperspace, we found out about my hidden navigation skills. Even I was surprised by the discovery, but it was useful in situations like the one we were currently in.
I sat down and clicked a button that kept us moving forward, behind the Perseids. Claudius and Amber were watching Anthony with concern. My father climbed onto the roof with his laser blaster in hand. He was getting ready to shoot and so was Rill. There was no way for this to end well.12Please respect copyright.PENANAJd2pF78hyl
Additionally, we were approaching a curve and the Perseids dissapeared behind the corner. As we turned, Anthony fell over, landing on the edge of the roof. Claudius, being the closest to the ladder, climbed onto the roof and grabbed Anthony by the leg. Sebastian was learning the controls of the cable car and temporarily took my spot as I climbed out of the car and helped Claudius. Together, we managed to pull Anthony into the vehicle. Looking forward, Rill was about to fire.
There was no time to aim. In a split second, Anthony pulled the trigger and fired a light pellet, catching Rill off guard. Rill lost his footing whilst trying to dodge and tumbled through the hatch. The pellet didn't hit him. Anthony fired a few more times and Rill Gomana didn't come back up. As he got up, he said something to Leonid and Dawn. Suddenly, they ended up taking a different path than we expected and vanished from our sight. We turned too as I regained control over the cable car.
The Perseids took another curve and another. It seems like they were taking the strangest path possible to confuse and get rid of us.
- Why aren't they trying to finish us off? Isn't that a thing Leonid would like to do? - Amber asked a very pertinent question.
The Perseids usually wanted to finish off their enemies, either by luring them into a death trap or surrounding them. It was unusual for them to back out, unless their scheme was thwarted. However, this time, we didn't foil anything. The Perseids were up to something strange and we had to idea what it was.12Please respect copyright.PENANAaRPWH5y6wi
Even weirder, Rill Gomana reemerged onto the roof and started firing again. This time, he wasn't aiming at anything, just firing in random direction. He set a few plants on fire and broke a window, but didn't do any serious damage aside from that.
However, we soon understood his actions. Causing a lot of mayhem lured in the Chinese agents, who aimed at our cable car, as the Perseids managed to move out of the way in the meantime.
- They're going to destroy us, right? - Sebastian was startled.
- Lie down! If they don't see us, they'll think that someone hijacked the cable car from the outside and will eventually leave us alone - Anthony instructed us and we listened to him.
Lying on cold metal was less than comfortable, but it worked. The Chinese didn't notice us, but they fired a few bullets, which resulted in the left wall of our cable car being punctured several times. The agents didn't fire again, so our strategy was working. As long as were stealthy, we'll be fine.
However, there was a person we didn't take into account: Harold. As we passed by a platform slightly above our vehicle, he suddenly jumped onto its roof and crashed through the hatch with a silly-sounding screech. This obviously alerted the Chinese, who were now firing at our cable car in waves, severely damaging the vehicle. When a bullet whistled right by Harold's head, he joined us and lied down, panting.
Eventually, the cable car gave in and we crashed into the jungle. As we landed, I turned around in pain, seeing Lim Yazhu, surrounded by armed agents, approaching our wrecked vehicle...
