Gabriel is a very important angel. That is why he is chosen by God to announce the birth of Jesus to Maria. God tells him to follow Maria and Joseph to Bethlehem and to protect them, so that nothing bad happens to Jesus. Gabriel goes with them, but only Maria can see him. She knows that he is there for her, because she recognizes the same angel she saw when he went to talk to her about the birth of her baby.
When they arrive in Bethlehem, they don't find a room in the inns, and Maria starts not to feel well. Joseph is worried, and he doesn't know what to do. Gabriel calls God, and he asks Him to give Joseph a sign. So Joseph sees a bright star, more luminous than all the other stars. The star is the one the shepherd Aaron sees. Gabriel tells the star to find a place for Maria and Joseph where she can give birth to Jesus. That old stable seems like an abandoned place, but Maria and Joseph find shelter, warmth from the ox and the ass, and straw and hay to make a bed for them.
Gabriel never abandons them, and, when the baby is born, he goes to call the people from the village, like Magda and Aaron. Aaron doesn't know why he ends up walking to that forlorn stable, because he can't see Gabriel, but the angel, with the help of the star, calls him, because he knows that the shepherd will help the holy family.
Gabriel has been given orders to call simple people, not wealthy, powerful men, because Jesus was born to save all of us, and during his life he has always spoken to simple people, who were ready to listen to his teaching…
Giulia pointed at the silhouette of Herod's castle on the hill.
“That is why Jesus was not born in that beautiful castle…”
Anna exchanged a glance with Silvia, because she knew that they had to go home early that evening, because Silvia's in-laws were coming to dinner. She told her two grandchildren:
“Exactly! If you come tomorrow, I will tell you the story of the King who lives in that castle… And you will see that Angel Gabriel is always present...”
Mario asked pleadingly:
“Mum, can we come tomorrow?”
While Silvia was listening to her mum’s story, memories of her childhood came back to her, together with the painful remembrance of her brother who had died a few months before. She smiled at her children and told them softly:
“Of course, children. We will come back tomorrow after school, ok?”
