Once there existed a little girl. Little Red Riding Hood. But her real name was Jennifer. Jennifer lived with her mum and dad in a house in the forest. They had a lovely garden protected by a fence, in which they grew fruit, flowers, and vegetables. They also had a few animals: a cow, Melk; a sheep, Felix; and a chicken, Chico. They used to have a turkey called Calvin, but they had him for dinner.
One day, Mum told Jennifer to collect the prettiest flowers from the garden. Jennifer picked some ugly black flowers that she didn’t even know the names of. In fact, she was not completely sure that they were flowers to begin with. Then she got a pretty woven basket and carefully arranged them in it.
“Jennifer!” Mum called. “Come here! I baked some cookies for Granny, take them with you! You know how much she adores them!”
“Okay,” Jennifer replied, holding out the basket. This was the second time she’d brought cookies for Granny this week.
Mum tipped the whole batch of burned, coal‑black cookies into it.
“Now,” she said, her hands on her hips. “Mind you take good care of yourself, and don’t talk to any strangers.”
