Greetings, I am Narvet Cordeck. I am an engineer for the Interplanetary Association of Developments. I’ve been there for about fifteen years. I have been assigned the task of proving the existence of a metal that has been given the name: Segmedium. It is believed to be located on a planet called Segmar Dira. If I find Segmedium there, the practical implications could be, let’s just say, revolutionary. We will be able to make faster ships, meaning more land to discover. This could do great things for the overcrowding problem. The only issue is, it’s on the very edge of the known universe. The trip there is half a year, at least. My wife, Tramitri, is opposed to the idea. But I know in my heart I have to do this. This is just too good an opportunity to pass up. I leave in one hour. The plan is to record these logs daily. Shouldn’t be too hard; there won’t be much to do during the trip.29Please respect copyright.PENANAaMsvRr2A5u

Greetings, week one has gone well. I am consuming my rations as intended, no more, no less. All of the specs on the ship are holding up. It’s hard to sleep, though. The noise of the ship in hyper mode is not soothing. I didn’t think about it until now, but it is getting difficult to think of anything to say in these logs. Continuing these daily may either get tedious or be thrown out the window. Who knows for sure?29Please respect copyright.PENANA0HOdmCS1xj

Greetings, the trip is still going good. I’m nearing the end of the trip here, and I have to say, I’m tired of this already. I miss my family and friends. I can’t think about any of that right now. This is all for the mission. I can do this, can’t I? Sure, I can.29Please respect copyright.PENANAYwnCDXwT4e

Greetings, I have finally made it to Segmar Dira. I landed near a canyon. I’m not sure how much Segmedium is. The sooner I find it, the more I can see if the rumors are true. That is, assuming that this metal exists in the first place. I likely won’t get started with the research today. The trip was exhausting, and scans are showing that the air here isn’t toxic.29Please respect copyright.PENANAAmqPp293kF

I have discovered something bad. As I was eating my ration for the day, I noticed that I was running out of fuel. I must’ve also hit something on my way here. The backup container of fuel has a hole in it, and I only have a gallon of it left. This shouldn’t be too big of a problem. Once I find Segmedium and find what makes it tick, I should be able to make fuel from it. I guess my sit, back, and relax day is no more. I’ll start my search for Segmedium immediately.29Please respect copyright.PENANAuTcqKfKqLr

Greetings, it’s been a minute. I haven’t made an entry in some time, I think it's been a month. That is my mistake. I’ve found it. I’ve found Segmedium. I haven’t had much time to tinker with it. It’s an amazing silver color, highly reflective. The material is rather heavy, as well. The one strip I have has to be 17 pounds. Just by feeling it in my hands, I am hopeful for the speculation to be correct.29Please respect copyright.PENANAnTTb4ioOfP

I’m done. Everything we’ve said... is wrong. Segmedium is not the fuel source we thought it could be. I plan on bringing samples with me. Perhaps there is some equipment I don’t have that can reveal something I simply can’t. However, I have found another substance for a fuel source. It’s a compound I like to call Natritium. It’s about as powerful as the fuel that most ships use, so it’s not anything special. All that matters is getting home. That’s all I want, at this point.29Please respect copyright.PENANAVGe35cPzRC

I’ve been thinking. The Interplanetary Association of Developments. They were never going to make Segmedium easily accessible. I was too giddy at the idea of Segmedium that I was blinded by the greed that likely led this exploration in the first place. Never say never.29Please respect copyright.PENANA23hgW41jUC

I stop typing, my fingers stay above the keys attached to the holographic keyboard in my cramped cockpit; most of the space is used for cargo below. I shouldn’t be typing all of this into a doc that the I.A.D. is going to read. There just hasn’t been anyone else to talk to. I remove my hands from the keyboard. I tap on an ‘x’ button on a screen near the keyboard. It brings up a file system. I look for a file titled Log 201 and press a symbol of three circles stacked vertically. It pops open a menu with many commands. I hit the one labeled Delete. The system pops up asking if I really want to delete the file. I press the yes button, and the file disappears from the files.29Please respect copyright.PENANAJwMed17Vjw
I sigh and hit a red button on the rim of the screen. The screen turns off and the keyboard disappears, only leaving a gray rectangle with a hole in it. I fold the rectangle up to where the screen is. I push it into the wall of the cockpit I sit in. I search for a lever with my left hand. I pull on it. Steam blows out of the hatch to the cock pit. The top of the cockpit opens up. I climb out of the cockpit.29Please respect copyright.PENANAr6CVMIrpPQ
